So I begrudgingly bought an MBP for Back to School after my Powerbook G4 blew up. I was frustrated that I was essentially buying the same laptop again, four years later. I had to have one for grad school.

Now this!

Can anyone think of any way I can get rid of this machine and get the new one? eBay perhaps? :(

apart from looks, in what way is a MBP the same machine as a Powerbook G4?

Installing it by yourself does not automatically void warranty. Many customer's of mine do it themselves. It's not that hard if people do research and find proper take apart instructions. On flipside, if you attempt it yourself and damage anything in the process your are on your own. Where I work we would not put it through under warranty if there even the hint of damage to it.

A manager at the Genius Bar in the Boston Boylston Street store actually told me it was fine to swap out the drive myself, so long as I swapped the original back in if it ever needs to be serviced, and "that we're not here to split hairs, we're here to help."

I can't wait to check out what they have to offer when I finish teaching in 2 hours.

I have a 1 year old MacBook so I'm not ready to upgrade for a couple years. A multi-touch pad would be pretty cool. I have an iPhone and I often find myself trying to use multi-touch on my MacBook pad when I'm looking at photos or reading web pages.

Cheers.

Never said it would automatically void your warranty. Said "it could essentially void your warranty". Huge difference between the two points. The chances of an end user damaging their MBP when changing a drive are much higher than those putting a drive in a MB.

My best guess at what people will complain about:

1. Price
2. "The trackpad is a button??"
3. Glossy screen
4. Lack of Mini Updates
5. lack of iMac updates
6. Lack of Mac tablet
7. Lack of Blu-Ray

That'll be me! :D

I have a feeling that many, many people are going to be underwhelmed by this event. But... we'll see.

I'll be one of them if there's no revision for the 17" MBP... From the 100's of posts I've read, that's seems to be the reality... New MB & MBP releases, and the 17" gets a bigger HD...

Hmmmm, what to do if that's the reality

I just might have to go with a fully tricked out 15" MBP... I guess if that's the hardest decision I have to make this month, I should consider myself pretty lucky.

I can't wait to see what Uncle Steve has in store for everyone !!!:D

No matter what the event there will always be that person who will be mad they didn't update it.

Oh an me likey Giz's Mockup.

It'll be hard for Apple to mess this up...

But from what I've been seeing, they must be really trying to disappoint us.

We'll see though, I've waited almost a year for this...we'll see.

Actually, I won't cause I'll be at class.

"I remember everyone selling their iPhone only to find out it was worth more, not less, after the new iPhone came out. No firewire?"

Wait, the new iPhone doesn't support firewire? I'm selling my Apple stock....

I hope the chicklets turn out to be silver colored or gray. I'm more interested in the low-end MacBook. I don't think I'll ever buy another MacBook Pro after my 12" died. Bring back the 12"!
