Let's just hope...

As an Apple consumer and an AAPL investor, a couple observations:

1. I'm not sure lopping $100 off the base macbook is gonna excite the market in today's economy.

iPod and iPhone prices dropped substantially more than that in upbeat markets; isn't it time for computers to show the same pricing adjustments, as they have--I know this isn't a popular thing to say--in Windows PCs?

2. Cosmetic changes are fine. But like lipstick on a frog...well, you know.

So what new features will capture the imagination of consumers, or of the business press? How will the new laptops be better, not just better-looking? Which headlines do you hope apple will generate:

Negative ones: ("firewire no longer provided"; "apple lowers price on one macbook but fails to introduce new, cheaper model"; "apple drops matte display option, keyboard style on MBPs", etc)

Or positive ones ("apple laptops add eSATA/innovative new trackpad/better USB and f/w ports/better graphics chips that also speed regular computer processes")? Yes, I think extended battery life could be added to this list.

I hope an hour from now we've gotten the right answers. My guess is we will have, but that's my bias towards apple. I'm still hoping for a GUI in the glass touchpad. Sooner or later it's gonna happen.

Oh, really?

:D lol !

I'm loving the whining going on around here! Why can't people reserve some sort of judgment until after event?!

You've all pretty much got to remember that Apple is a ma-hu-sive company with some, no doubt, genius designers. I am pretty sure that between them they can figure out a way of doing the 'right thing' without killing off any of their markets. Oh ye of little faith

The Apple notebook media event starts at 10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern.

Ha! If i had wanted to think differently, I could have watched the keynote an hour before the rest of you, here on Alaska Standard Time. I'd have known for the past 3 1/2 hours what those of you pointy-headed intellectual, fern-bar, east coast wussies with fewer firearms than family members won't know for another half an hour. My only regret is that the Russkies could have watched it even earlier. I know: from my bedroom window when i get up in the morning i can look out and see the lights on at their houses. Burns me up.

This is a large amount of leaked information. I think we are all going to see something pretty big that we never expected.

Just a final reminder that at least one of the 'JR' photos appears to be a fake. I don't care if MacRumors or AppleInsider 'verify' the images - At least one of them appears to be a mockup, however close to the real deal it might actually be.

Here is an illustration of a collection of points noticed by myself and other users in the other 'JR Photos' forum.

The 1st image is still convincing, but the 2nd one with the closed lid...
FAKE !!!

I mentioned this in the other thread, but it was getting buried quickly...

What if instead of the MacBooks being consolidated into one line (i.e. getting rid of the 'Pro' moniker), the MacBooks are all but eliminated? What if the only MacBook left is the plastic one at $999 and the MacBook Pros now have a 13" version that starts at $1299? That could explain the price jump, the similar looks and features, the "no MacBook announcement" rumor, and why we've yet to see a picture of the MacBook!

Ah, not going down the dreaded "lipstick on a pig" path - then you'd be sexist (just go ask the GOP...). "Lipstick on a hockey mom," though, would have been excellent.
