It's funny to hear newbies to the Apple world act all shocked and keep saying Apple will surprise. Apple has almost never surprised for the past ten years. They always let us down. The focus is iOS 5 - the software. The emphasis has never been on hardware. iOS 5 and iCloud are too big to be overshadowed by a new hardware design. Apple expects iOS 5 and iCloud to sell the phone... not the hardware.

Hmm... I think Apple "leaked" this on purpose. Shoot down expectations of a new phone, then come out of nowhere at the keynote with a radical new iPhone 5.

And the 4s is the cheap iPhone.

I hope so too but they have never actually given "bankable" info only to then exceed expectations. To me like it's gonna be more of the same. Which actually ain't bad though a bigger screen would be nice.

There will be an iPhone 5 I am 100% certain of it.

There is no way after 16 months they would just release a specs update of an existing phone without anything else

When are people going to get it into their skulls that iOS 5 and iCloud were as much, if not mainly, behind the delay than anything to do with hardware. MobileMe and the debacle of it's launch meant that iCloud was always going to be tweaked to near perfection before it went public.

I think the real reason apple has waited this long to release new hardware is because they will be releasing UNIVERSAL iPhones that work on any CDMA/GSM network. The phone companies won't necessarily like this unless it is done right.

That is what the "1" is on the event invite... 1 phone for all carriers, two versions, iPhone 5, and an upgraded iPhone 4, whatever they call it. But there will no longer be a "verizon" iphone and a "at&t" iphone...etc.

Think about it, it makes total sense.

Deff an interesting take on this. Could make sense.

Personally, my belief is that they had so much going on with the iPhone 4 that they wanted to push this release back, and in doing so they gave themselves more time for bells and whistles. The 4 had a huge shortage, then the antenna/free bumper phase, then verizon, then the white model.... It's like even though this phone has been out a while we are hearing about it in the news constantly. Why rush to release a new gen when the 4 not just outsold, but obliterated the previous versions.

I really don't care what the next phone is called- if it has an A5 and a better camera I'm on board. I have some cool trips coming up in the spring and I'd love to consolidate my gadget baggage. If it has a gig of ram, then I'd be very content until the next release (next year or whenever that may be).

so we are all in agreement then:

there will be a redesigned iPhone 5 on tuesday!

Im in agreement.

This all but confirms that there are two new iPhones coming: the iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5.

In my view, the only debate and uncertainty was whether or not Apple was going to introduce an iPhone "4S" alongside the iPhone 5. (Dual release vs just releasing an iPhone 5). There's no doubt in my mind that the mythical iPhone 5 will be released, but I doubted more over whether or not Apple would dual release the 4S alongside the 5.

But looks like I can finally put that doubt to rest. We are going to see the 4S AND the 5, it looks like. ;)

After doing a bit of research, I understand they only sent the image to one developer to see if the file would show up on Macrumors. I am guessing someone lost their developer account today.

If that's the case I hope that Dev is happy because he has single handily kept other devs from testing the Match because Apple pulled it.

I hope everybody is happy.

What would surprise you exactly? Teleportation? You're a tough crowd.

If that's the case, that's great.

I wish they would start naming the iPhones the iPhone (for the cheaper model) and the iPhone Pro (for the more expensive model). And then people would just refer to it as the 2010, 2011, 2012, etc models. :p. Otherwise, I can't wait for the iPhone 29!!!! Lol

hmmm...I'm reconsidering...you may be right about this.

Why people feel they need a complete redesign every year is beyond me.

The awful, fragile glass design of the iPhone 4 demands a change.

The antenna gate

did any one notice that the antenna on the models shown is different.. one less line on the right hand side of the phone =p

What the Hell is all of this? Every rumour that appears, another rumour appears to counteract it.

There's also that thread on the Chinese forum by someone who has revealed correct information in the past about the iPhone 5 existing and he confirms a 4" screen as well as an iPhone 4S being made.

I don't know what to believe, but there's only a few days left anyways now. At least there is only one day until Breaking Bad!

First of all, who cares about its name. IPhone 4S or 5 , it doesn't matter. It actually makes sense that they are going to call it the iPhone 4S. That way when the 6th generation iPhone is released, they can call it the iPhone 4G (LTE speeds)

As for the image of the "iPhone 4S"...it's obviously a placeholder..Do you really think that Apple would "accidentally" leak their highly anticipated iPhone design?

It also had a 1 in it which I take to mean "one more thing"
It means "one thing to talk about" i.e. the new, faster and improved iPhone 4S to be revealed Tuesday.

You state that as fact. Care to elaborate?
