I tweeted on Sunday about success. Boots (twice) against HSBC debit.

Both times it was "a first time" for the checkout operator.

I have been wowing the locals on holiday in Cornwall using my watch! Most of them don't even know their machine is contactless:)

A day with no debit cards-

Forgot my debit card yesterday, probably an upshot of feeling I'd be okay with my watch.

Went to starbucks 'euro garage' drive through, no contactless.
Needed something from Tesco, no contactless.
Went to Spar no contactless, they had contactless in Post Office bit, that was still open, but didn't seem keen to help.

So I think we may stuggle with just watch as of August 2015.

I think that'll depend on where you are located.
In London I have no trouble paying for my train ride with the watch, buying a coffee, lunch and then train ride home. All without using a debit card or cash.

yes I imagine London being good, this was Flintshire and Wirral areas.

I guess retailers aren't going to change their terminals until the terminals lease is due for renewal with the card company.
As they would incur extra costs themselves.

I've just paid with my Watch for the first time at the tiny local chemist in our village. Staff there were amazed it worked and how quick it was! The nearest huge Tesco to here doesn't take contactless but this tiny, local retailer does ...

I used my Watch at my village dry cleaners. The chap was really interested in what else the watch could do, he asked if you could answer calls and reply to text messages. He says he'll look into it and may well buy one.

Used in Aldi last night, the woman on the till said they have had issues and it may not work but I can try it.. She was surprised it worked! Not sure if people are doing it wrong somehow or the machine had been fixed.

They need a new punchy word for contactless. By the time I've tried to explain how I want to pay, it would have been quicker to use a card.

Tesco will have all their shops refitted by the end of the year

Also, as no one else has mentioned it yet, Marks and Spencers doesn't have a limit on contactless payment at the moment

The updated NatWest/RBS app for the phone and watch is pretty cool.

Now you can get cash out by generating a one-time code on the watch, you tap this code into any RBS, NatWest or Tesco cashpoint and out comes your money. No need to get the debit card out.

Matt

No this one is way slower than any other app I have takes 2-3 minutes to display anything and then hangs for 40-50 seconds when pressing anything!

yes its slower than other watch apps. It seems like it locks up whenever it is waiting for data from the phone. EE was being slow when I was trying it and it felt like the watch app had hung.
