The majority of people working out bring their phone with them according to a survey by Outdoor Magazine.

IDC research, along with Facebook, showed 79% of people ages 18-444 have their smartphones with them 22 hours a day. 63% keep it with them for all but one hour. A full quarter of respondents couldn’t recall a single time of the day when their phone wasn’t in the same room as them.

So again, it appears that the vast majority carry their phone with them while they're doing nearly everything.

I'm sorry you're in the small minority but Apple isn't building a watch for everyone. They're building it for the greatest majority of consumers out there.

Most people aren't hardcore runners. 80% of Americans don't get the recommended amount of weekly exercise according to the Centers for Disease Control. Most wouldn't have a need for GPS because they aren't that dedicated to working out.

It's time to start recognizing that your own needs aren't those of the majority and instead represent a small minority which may be better served with a niche product than with one that is designed for the average user.
Omitting GPS has absolutely nothing to do with building it for the masses. Simple fact, fitness devices are a substantial market that Apple is trying to get into. They want an all-in-one fitness device. The omission of a GPS will never allow it to be ab all-in-one fitness device. Until it has a GPS, the watch is nothing more than an extension of your phone. The Apple Watch is useless as a stand alone device because of that.

So help me god if they make every band I own obsolete in less than a year it will be the last apple product I buy.

We're going to have the two camps before this settles; those saying the annual upgrade is insufficient and those complaining that their existing watch is obsolete.

We getting to the point where people anticipate annual or semi-annual replacements for their smart phone, watch, tablet, Apple TV, and computer. It's a bit much.

Here's my guess...

Thinner but with same battery life.

Can use all your old Apple Watch straps but will require a new adapter that cost from $39.95 to $2500 depending on model - eg. sport, watch, or edition (will actually be available several months late due to manufacturing and/or supply chain issues).

What does the Air 2 need? Just curious. Mine is still snappy and it's got the best processor in the lineup excluding the Pro. Camera is good. Touch ID check... I think the Pencil should work with the Air 2 tho.

New processor, 3D touch, support for Apple Pencil

Thanks again Government! Always knowin' what's best for me! Crackerjack buncha guys I tell ya. So glad they steal their public sector paychecks from my private sector paycheck to perform services like this. *So* grateful.

I expect that the chief reason to avoid having to deal with the FDA is the update cycle. If a device is really tied in to critical health data then one definitely does not want it giving bad data (or doing who knows what) after a software "upgrade".

Since Apple has been having more than a few issues with their releases lately, having someone restraining them from inadvertently advisedly impacting people's health would be rather a good thing.

Sports is just a reference to the band cause they didn't wanna call it the Apple Watch Plastic or the Apple Watch Basic.

To their credit, it is the best band for working out as sweat on the other ones if more of an issue. Leather and sweat or leather and metal aren't nearly as easy to clean as some rubber.

Sorry, I'll have to disagree with you on this one. It may reference the band but it also reference why you use the sports band. Apple recommends you use the sports band while doing sports since the heart rate monitor will give a better reading. Apple promoted the Apple Watch as a sports watch on top of being a fashion piece and smart watch.

Maybe they will come to their senses and make it round. I mean made it round.

That will go well with your round iPhone, round iPad, and round laptop.

It blows my mind why people still don't understand why Apple didn't make a round Watch.

No GPS, no buy.

How they can't make a complete stand alone watch is beyond me. The day I can receive my text or calls during my run without carrying my phone.........then we have a winner.

Of course Apple could build a stand alone smartwatch. Even Samdung has done it. But it would either be extremely bulky or have a battery life of 4 hours.

You know what I want to see before I'm willing to buy an Apple Watch? A minimum 2-day battery life.

I don't care about all the sensors. I've already got a Garmin Vivosmart; and, while it was nice initially as a "training device" to get me to change my daily behavior, I've found now that I've done that I really don't care all that much about my daily steps and whatnot. What I still do find useful are notifications and reminders on my wrist - and that is what would induce me to purchase an Apple Watch, if anything would.

Why 2 day battery life? It takes exactly 1 second to connect my Watch to the magnetic charger.

And its way easier to remember to do something every day instead of every other day. To have 2 day battery life the Watch would need a bigger battery or slower CPU. There is always trade offs for longer battery life.

A 4" iPhone only makes sense if it:

A) is dirt cheap

Or

B) has high end specs

The 5C was neither and that's why it failed.

I'll buy when three criteria are met:

1) I don't need to carry my phone on a run to get the full feature set of the watch (I've never, ever carried a phone on a run and I'm not about to start)

2) It's about 30% as thick as it currently is - let's face it, this is one product that grossly needs to be thinner, it's hideous as-is and one third as thick? Much nicer looking and feeling.

3) Battery lasts several days

So in other words, generation 4 or 5.

Talk about ridiculous expectations.

You are expecting battery technology to increase by 1000% in 4 years? Dream on.

You want it to last DAYS and be 70% thinner? LOL. You are in pipe dream land.

The 5C did not fail.

It outsold every other smartphone on the planet not called iPhone or Galaxy. In fact it probably out sold the Galaxy S4 and S5.

More like skyrocket in value. At that price, they are not consumer electronics but highly sought after collectibles.

I have a friend that bought TWO Apple Watch Editions and put them in a safety deposit box without even breaking the factory seal. He is betting they will be come very valuable to collectors in ten years.
Yeah, good luck with that. After ten iOS release cycles there would be no way in hell he would be able to pair/activate that 10 year old watch.

If you could put iPhone 6s guts in a 4" display model, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

If that 4" phone isn't the same as the current flagship performance wise, I'll stick with the flagship.

If that's the case they can keep it. I will survive i'm sure.
Mechanical watches are usually round to make best use of the available space on the face. Round smartwatch faces are a skeuomorphism. I'd never get a rectangular mechanical but have no problems with smartwatches in that shape. They are little monitors. It's how they look.

Improve battery life at least 25%, and improve overall speed performance.

I really like my Apple Watch. Looking forward to 2nd Gen improvements.

I suppose you would prefer that the Government not regulate medical devices and let free market rule? I'm sure that pacemakers, artificial knees, defibrillators and dialysis machines would plummet in price - along with the corresponding quality.

In this case the government DOES know what's best for you: Devices that won't kill you or devices that tell you that your BP is fine when you are actually dying.

The Government regulates medical and transportation for safety reasons and the only reason you can believe that safety isn't a problem is because they have been doing it effectively.

If they announce a round watch, I'll be getting one... If not, I'll get a round android watch. Im using a G-Watch with iPhone at moment and it does everything I need. Would just prefer round version.

The 5C wasn't a fail, for my wife. She loves it, will not get a larger replacement, and for her it is perfect.

I do agree with you, tho, that it needs to be at least somewhat of an upgrade over the 5S. But I don't care about force touch, frankly.

You're making an assumption that the battery would get 70% smaller. I never said that. The Apple watch is fat, and pretty much everything in it could be and will be smaller with each generation. I bet they could make the watch 2/3 thinner and still keep a battery close to the current mAH rating by shrinking everything else inside and/or reconfiguring the battery shape a la Macbook Air with the stepped battery. Add better power management with each generation and incremental battery technology updates and I don't think it's absurd that in 3-4 years you have an Apple watch that's much thinner and lasts 3 days.

I don't like square.

Could you be so kind and share this secret.

So how many people here are holding onto their strong belief and many posted as such that that Apple watch won't get a yearly refresh, some brave sole even suggesting 10 years!
Or, as was also thought by many here, there would be some upgrade plan to get new internals fitted.

Anyone still sticking by those thoughts from a year ago?
