So I assume through showing the new Intel logo in their marketing (thankfully not in the cheesy.."dum dum dah dum" style) they get the Intel subsidy benefits?

I like the ad, is it due to start being shown on TV immediately?

Oh for sure, I'm sure that was all worked into their agreements in terms of advertising and the like. I'm just glad Apple wasn't forced to use the standard Intel logo - I'm sure that's something they faught hard for, as they rightfully should.

Jobs wasn't responsible for the old Smoking Pentium ads. I hate those sorts of negative advertising ads. Sooner or later, they tend to come back and bite you in the ass. ;)

Gotta toss up a negative on this ad.

Dull little boxes doing dull little tasks? Really? Um, lets see, nearly every feature film for the last 10 years has been made on intel chips, and nearly every single game over the last 10 years have been developed using intel chips.

Most feature films are actually editet on Mac based systems! However Avid Film Composer is mostly used and not Final Cut Pro. This is due to the fact that Avid pioneered editing low resolution versions of scanned film stock. Afterwards the actual film is assembled using the Avid version as a reference.

Final Cut Pro actually dominates the rest of the media market - being the nonlinear editing system with most users.

Acording to rumors Apple is going after the Avid film market by launching Final Cut Extreeme at next NAB-convention.

Final Cut has actually already been used to edit big budget movies like Cold Mountain, because of the integration of CinemaTools.

By the end of the ad, I was waiting for a few frames showing WHAT these chips were going to do in their new Mac homes. Scrolling through a huge photo library, photoshopping, making that movie about washing the dog, displaying waveforms in an audio editor, 3D modeling, something, anything specific.

This ad seems to be preaching to the choir, as if those watching already know what Macs do and care more about the speed than the features. For the most part, no they don't.

Wow. So many of you criticizers don't seem to even know what Apple are about. It's all about the style. The instant they start showing people scrolling around in iPhoto is the minute Apple become Microsoft.

Jeez, you'd think some people would have used Macs long enough to forget that MS tackiness.

How widespread is this ad? I haven't seen it yet. God I hope Apple is going to do a media blitz. Its about fracking time!!

Why do I get the impression this is part one of an ad blitz? Seriously the ad fells like what you get the year before a major blockbuster release: a teaser. Nothing more. Get their attention and then get them interested with details.

That would make a great SuperBowl commercial! I hope they saved it for that, but I know there is no chance since Steve previewed it yesterday.

Has anyone seen it yet on TV? What Network?

Hmmm....Someone is not very happy with this new Apple ad.

It is just my guess that Dell or some other huge PC maker got a glimpse of this ad and gave the Intel CEO a call. So what does Intel do? Well of course they stick up for the PC.

Expect this one to be pulled from rotation ASAP by the powers that run the PC industry! Oh, I think the change was for the best, but Apple better be ready to play rough with the big boys now.

I definitely noticed the same thing. Got some lag throughout (no surprise), but the quality was very, very good on my cable connection w/ latest Quicktime.

And, the ad is great. :D

HA! No lag on my 2 Ghz Mobile Celeron Thinkpad R40!

But only in the most backhanded of ways :D "We certainly hope that this innovation engine kind of picks up and that you do see the beige box makers going, 'You know, maybe we could do something that looks and feels like that.' That would be a good thing, I think, from our perspective." Intel have been trying to drag the PC industry kicking and screaming into the present for a long time, they have to love that ad even if they can't admit it :)

You know, I wouldn't put it past Apple - that would be huge.

well i guess its a good thing you see it as inspirational. I have to this this is one of the few times you see apple flat out copy something, the setting, the slow motion filmography even the robotic arm.

Still like the commercial, just lost a little respect for Chiat/Day or whoever makes Apple ads these days.

on another note.. go kiefer.. yah 24 !

Anyone else think it's absurdly similar to the video for the Postal Service's Such Great Heights?

There's a moment in this Apple ad where two of the workers match eyes while passing off a wafer that's lifted straight from the video. Most of the shots of the wafer arms moving around are from the exact same angle as well.

Suspicious.

Yep, this is veeery suspicious... You forgot to mention the shots of the white corridors, and that zoom out from inside the satellite! That shot looks just like the shot of the Intel chip inside the iMac...

But yeah, I still like the ad. And the Postal Service song, by the way, is very nice too, as is Moby's ;)

I agree with Dr. Q. Regardless if you hate Microsoft on not, their TV ads are on the money. They show "real" people doing things with their computers and Windows software. Apple should be showing what people can do with Mac OSX. For current Windows/Intel system users, the processor is not relevent.

I thought the ad was great - loved the trash talkin'.

Reading here though, I realize that some of you folks are right, the ad does sort of preach to the choir....

Hm. Maybe a super bowl ad is in order.

has anyone else noticed that they havnt done any promo videos? like with the powerbook 17inch the g5 etc. the new macbook pro isnt enough of a jump forward as the 17inch powerbook was from the titanium.

Actually the target audience of the ad seems to be the Mac loyal who seems to have concerns about the move to Intel. Basically trying to convince you that Intel is as 'high-tech' as IBM was and that if its processors could crunch through the crap being thrown on it all these years then - imagine the possibilities with the Mac and OSX.

Nevertheless, the ad was beautifully created and am sure its gonna become a classic really soon.
