Keynote available on iTunes now

Downloading the keynote via iTunes now.

All in all, I think it was a decent event. Had the price point been more - I would hate it. But, for the price point - I think its deffo a good product. One of the only gripes I have is with the delivery times on these.

At half way point of the keynote I just wanted to hear about iPhone OS 4 and forget the whole pad thingy... Kill the closed iPhone OS on the pad and bring us something close to real Mac OS X and I'll be getting one ASAP.

Bunch of stupid, jaded, myopic, spoiled, full of themselves, cry babies.

The iPad is going to sell like crazy--even better than the iPhone.

Whole new product category. It's going to blow netbooks out of the water.

Those AT&T data plans are also key to huge new profits for both companies.

The iPad is going to change lives and even the society as a whole.

No one will remember all this whining for long.

:D good luck with your thought process. This is more like another :apple:TV, nice but only very few will get it.

The Iphone surprised and revolutionized the smartphone/phones market and no one complained about it. Leopard revolutionized computer OS and no one complained about it. The appstore revolutionized the software and games market and no one complained about it.
They were all big successes.

Snow Leopard was a technical advanced os but yet it wasn't that revolutionnary and lacked of new features, it had a semi-success. Macbook Air was thin and nice, but everyone complained about it being too expensive and not that useful, it didn't work that well. Itunes 9 and iTunes LP were useless and way too far from what was expected for the last keynote and iTunes, and it's been a fiasco since there's really nothing new to iTunes but a bunch of new bugs, we don't even hear about LPs anymore.

It's going to be the same thing for Apple iPad, and it has to be in order for Apple to wake up, and i'm not even talking about the obsolete Iphone OS and Macbook Pros.

Let the market and connoiseur speak.

The iWork suite for the iPad really is impressive...

I could see a situation where if the iPad is a success, Apple might end up alienating users of the smaller mobile devices. There really are a lot more gaming possibilities for a bigger screen. But will that trend begin to cripple the usefulness of the iPhone and Touch?

This device could shove down some of the iPod line, but the iPhone has a use which the iPad doesn't. So I doubt the iPhone sales will be heavily influenced.

It could squeeze down the lower end iPods, making them slowly go out of market. The shuffle might disappear, the Nano becoming a limited and cheap player made for little, and the iPT coming in where the Nano is. Because the big cash is in software, the iPT is the best bet for Apple to get out to more low end consumers.

There isn't any crippling going on, rather a repositioning of products. The shuffle and nano are becoming the bastard children because they don't do more than allow music and movies to be purchased from Apple. If the iPad goes well, Apple will turn the notebooks into tablets and begin making app stores for those as well. The focus of Apple's products will shift quite a bit in the future, but I hope they will continue making higher end machines which have been neglected for 2 years.

I guess the missing features like camera for conferencing will come out on the iPad Pro when it's announced at WWDC in June???

Problem jumping ahead on 2010 keynote stream?

I'm on my Ipod touch and I am trying to jump to the middle of the presentation. The audio plays at normal speed waaaaay out of synce with
video which is fast forwarding. When the video finally catches up to audio
it quits out? Very annoying.

Most likely. There was a HUGE push to getting price down. The initial launch MUST have the lowest price possible. Expect within one year to see the device expanding out and having higher prices.

This trimmed down first version opens people to the idea because they hear $499. After the initial press and perception, Apple can up the product, while components continue to get cheaper.

Lots of apple products are great but this thing i mean look online its getting slammed everywhere. This is the first product I have seen apple cripple in the name of profits. I have been a long time apple user and supporter (I am talking green monochrome screens here) and I won't buy this. No camera? Why not when even the ipod mini has one?

Because apple designed this short of its potential. It lacks things that both the iphone and macbook have. Why? Not because they couldnt or the little camera costs too much but because apple does not want to cannibalize any iphone or macbook sales but to sell us all 3! This could have been so much more with very few tweaks and you honestly feel apple couldnt add those?

Its no "couldnt" its more a didnt want to. I don't approve of this new apple instead of giving something their all and wowing us, they hold things back to control us.

Its too big to be comfortably portable and too feature starved to be productive, really - a single task system in this day and age? Its just small enough to have legs of its own when you don't watch over it too.

Sorry, I will wait for revision 2. Revision one looks like compromise city. Whats with the mega border.

anyone else just cringe when watching the iPad video on the store site?

When Steve was showing off it's browsing capabilities and it "choose" not to display the flash adverts on just the handful of sites he visited. The audience's reaction to start laughing must of hurt his ego.

When does Jobs think HTML 5 will replace flash.

I'm hoping that with software and hardware revision this computer will have better note taking abilities, art abilities, document abilities, etc...

The border looked odd at first, but now that I logically work it out, it's almost necessary. Without it, you need to elevate your thumbs all the time. The border allows thumb rest. I have no doubt Apple worked that out during design.

A lot of people have cried about BORDERLESS screen, but with such a borderless frame, flesh from your hand will every so often interfere with the multi-touch. It would become difficult to use for long periods of time.

Because he is right.

In your opinion.

Same here buddy and that still doesn't make short sighted enough to think that this device is "crippled". It's the iPod all over again. The people criticising this are all failing to see the potential of the device and are judging it solely on what they want. Well boo-hoo Apple didn't make the device for you.

I can see why this wouldn't be any use for a lot of people but to bitch at Apple because they didn't cram in every little feature you demand is plain childish.

Where's my friggin updated 13 inch mbp??

what are you whining about? Its in stores, go BUY one. there is nothing wrong with 13" MBP now

At half way point of the keynote I just wanted to hear about iPhone OS 4 and forget the whole pad thingy... Kill the closed iPhone OS on the pad and bring us something close to real Mac OS X and I'll be getting one ASAP.

You would. Not the 30 million who will have one these within 3 years.

Its called being, "Out to Lunch"

I must admit i was extremely excited about this product then i find out its a expanded version of the iphone OS (it is, dont kid yourselves), with no USB, and its all tied into the App store, yes there are some great apps out there but really most of them are complete crap.

I had grand visions of playing Football Manager 2010 sitting on my sofa with a nice touch interface, watching flash videos etc...

those grand visions were duly smashed.

It is in my opinion a very lightweight awful product that is only going to fill a niche for a small section of people.

I can see LOADS of these sliding off laps and sofas and cracking, sometimes its better to have a rugged plasticy design that absorbs falls alot better, my iphone can have a case but its quite susceptable, my old sony ericson i could literally throw on the floor and it would still work okay.

Looks like i will have to join the 'dark side' and get myself a different tablet... one that i wouldnt feel sick spending a crap load of money on.

THis really is style over substance... *sigh*

I honestly don't get it. Why on earth couldn't they add Flash support? Pad has easily the power for it. If you don't want to see flash stuff you could always disable it.... Now its disabled for you by Apple, hell the whole device is disabled by Apple on way too many fronts.

I agree. Those who don't like the border are just looking at style and have never held one. You can hold an iphone or ipod touch cupped in your hand but this is larger than your hand and needs your thumb to make contact with the front to secure it. The border is necessary for proper ergonomics.
They figured this out in testing.

Land of the Giants

Personally this seems a retrograde step to me. The iPad looks like the precursor to the iPod and the sort of thing I would have traded in to get an iPod. I can understand why they did it - but I dont like it and nothing makes me desire it. Its a folly from the Land of the Giants....

There is USB

and the developers have only seen this thing for a week - come launch time see what apps are available.

The flash issue is indeed an big one - waiting to see if there is a workaround like with youtube

It is in my opinion a very lightweight awful product that is only going to fill a niche for a small section of people.

I fail to comprehend that conclusion

its a tablet that does wordprocessing, videos, music and puts the internet in your hands.

I can see LOADS of these sliding off laps and sofas and cracking, sometimes its better to have a rugged plasticy design that absorbs falls alot better,

silicone sleeves will be available on ebay by the end of the week for £3.

my iphone can have a case but its quite susceptable, my old sony ericson i could literally throw on the floor and it would still work okay.

i don't believe many netbooks are droppable

This really is style over substance... *sigh*

You are free to think that - but i think you are missing a lot of the substance.

Will have to try out a competitor tablet and see how their multi touch works.
Anyone who has used an iphone will have HIGH standards.

Its crippled. Excuse it how you may, but how do you explain missing features products below and above it come with standard? They need you to buy a macbook, which you will have to for skype etc. They also need you to buy an iPhone for voice, sms, messaging. If this did any of those things, and it EASILY could, you would not NEED those devices.

And OF COURSE I judge it on what I want, *I* am the consumer!? Since when did we put apple on such a pedastal that we should take what they give us and LOVE it and NOT DARE want or expect more?

Here is where it boils down - if this thing had a FEW more features, camera, bit more storage, multitasking, it would cannibilize macbook sales. And THATS why it is missing those items.

GIVE me ONE valid reason to leave out a camera that comes standard on FAR cheaper devices. Can't be cost. Cant be room, its in a device 1/20th the size of this.

Give me ONE valid reason not to have it OTHER than apple wants to force you to buy other devices to have it.

School Book

The iPad is not designed or marketed for the Technorati. This is not designed to be a Tablet Mac. This is an INFORMATION DEVICE for adults. A serious adult is not going to use an iPod Touch, it's too small and tedious to zoom in, pinch and stretch. An iPod Touch is seen as a novelty item for kids and young adults or an iPod that does some 'other' stuff. This is an INFORMATION DELIVERING DEVICE for everyone who doesn't want to be stuck in contract with at&t and pay $30 a month. This is for everyone else who can now receive information on the EASIEST platform to use without the restrictions of the iPhone (at&t & contract) and the limitations of the Touch ( small, childlike-toy) This is truly a new product that is INSANELY familar to the Technorati but new to a WHOLE new market....
I just bought books for my daughter, she is a college freshman, they cost me a small fortune. If all of them could be digital and downloaded to this one devise.... Now that would be awesome! Interactive textbooks wow what a concept, tons more nformation. Compare this to a Kindle or Sony's reader and there is no comparison.
