They probably had the architecture designed before they decided to switch to Intel.

excactly... and the dual-dualcore motherboards were prolly fitted with PCI-Express anyways... :)

I think we'll get this...

1: 2.1ghz Single-Dualcore, PCI-Express, 512mb DDR2 (4GB) X600 Pro
2: 2.3ghz Dual-Dualcore, PCI-Express, 512mb DDR2 (4GB), X600 Pro
3: 2.7ghz Dual-Dualcore, PCI-Express, PCI-X, 512 DDR2 (8GB) X600 XT
4: 3.0ghz Dual-Dualcore, PCI-Express, PCI-X, 512 DDR2 (16GB) X? Dual-DVI

PowerBooks:
either 1.5 and 1.7 dualcore G4, or 1.7 and 2.0 singlecore.
DDR2 and ATI X700. =) FrontRow and AcidView

Still reading through the mountain of replies over the weekend so maybe this has already been answered.

According to the wayback machine there has been pages at www.apple.com/powerbook since 1999.

No history at all for www.apple.com/powerbookg4.

Huh...I could've sworn it used to be powerbookg4...I'd even made a mental note of how odd that was...oh well, just going brain dead I guess.

Of course, that site doesn't list anything for /ipodshuffle/ nor /ipodnano/, nor anything from 2005 it seems.

Why did I click on this thread!

I am on page 5, and am frustrated / confused / and well, confused.. I am trying to figure out what is going on in the rumors, but this rumor is filled with some bigger rumors!

Make it stop!!!

:(

Come on 840quadra, you should know better by now! ;) :)

Soon it will be all over, all will be revealed, and instead of debating about rumor, we'll be debating about facts. ;)

The ultraportable category may be the hottest segment of the market.
I don't know that they're the hottest sellers, but it's a segment I for one want! Even something with smaller than normal keys (like the old PB 1400 or 2400 or whatever it was).

Nice! Thanks for the link. IR receiver in the Apple logo, and you can sleep/wake your iMac from the remote!

"This can be accomplished -- much like an iPod -- by pressing the Play/Pause button on the remote for three seconds. It can also be used to wake the machine -- accomplished by pressing any button on the remote."

Perfect! Since I am on the West Coast Apple should have it on their website by my lunch time. Last time I had to wait until the end of the day
Who knows, if they come out with a lot of new stuff it might actually take over two hours, in which case I'd be happy, but upset I have to wait all day again.

Arg, you're right about the processor speed.

However, the base 12" model is 60GB, so no decrease of spec in that department.

The superdrive model has 80 gigabytes. Your theoretical model had 60 gigabyte and a superdrive, so that is why I tagged on "decrease in HD, for a superdrive model." :)

I just don't think Apple is going to go backwards, with a hard drive. 80 gigabytes should be the very minimum, for a professional notebook now.

I guess we'll see soon. :) Although, I'm not hopeful for anything below 15 inch being updated.

The problem with HDMI is which connector to use? 19 pin or 29 pin?
I didn't know there was a connector controversy.

Last weeks Invite said One more thing, and we saw both the iMac and iPod updated. Sure the invites give somewhat of a clue, but there is definetely not just a photo app. being announced.
I still expect we'll see an ATI X1800 GPU on the new PowerMacs. In fact I was originally expecting to see the new PowerMacs the same day the GPUs were released, on Wednesday Oct 5. But by then we heard there was going to be "... one more thing" on Wednesday Oct 12. An now we're looking for at least a photo app on Wednesday Oct 19th, but most of the speculation is about PowerMacs again. (I left out WWDC and then the speculation around the Paris Expo.) So now I'm looking to find a reason to disbelieve, just to avoid another crushing disappointment.

The ultraportable category up to this point has been less than impressive because many compromises have had to be made. To gain the benefits of a truly small and lightweight form factor we have had to compromise on some key specs like processing power, memory expansion, hard disk capacity, graphics performance, etc. But today, the ultraportable segment of the market may be ready for rapid growth. In Asia this segment is already doing very well. Jump aboard a commuter train in Japan and you'll find ultraportables on most laptops. Look around a coffee shop in Taiwan and you'll see the same thing. It's a very desirable form factor now.

I'd like to see Apple deliver an ultraportable with all the specs (including widescreen high-def screen) 'cause I too am in the market for my first ever ultraportable.

True, True..

I will have to keep to the classic Macintosh forum, and or some of the picture threads! :D

Yup, agreed.

You don't know the POWER of the darkside...

Soon we will! and there will be much rejoicing. YEA!

Does anyone have a link/image/hardcopy of the invitation?

We're getting close to 1,000 posts. Don't stop now

Unlike the iMac with its captive video card, you can always upgrade the graphics card on the PowerMac. If Apple does not provide the X1800 as standard equipment, just buy it separately and plug it in (assuming driver support is there).

Yeah... doesn't anybody have an image of the invitation? Is MacWorld the only site officially reporting the event?

I suspect since this event is for "professional products," a few less sites received them. For example, I imagine ilounge.com, would not receive an invitation, so there are less out there, for us to see. :(

We can trust Macworld. They would have received an invitation, in order to post that.

Does macrumors.com ever get invites? I wonder if Jobs ever looks at the rumor sites to see what the mac nerds are stirring over. :)

Heh, Helllll no!

Macworld got one, I'd imagine the WSJ got one, I'd say a lot of the Pro-Focus magazines got one and a few TV technology commentators.

Exactly what chip do you think Apple is going to use in the PowerMac then? I believe the 970MP can only clock as high as 2.5 or 2.7 GHz...

And 7447A AKA G4 tops out at 1.5Ghz, yet for some reason Apple ships 1.67GHz G4's....

As for Blu-Ray, it would be nice, but it is still too soon. And regardless, what would people use it for? Has anything been formally released on Blu-Ray yet? How much does blank media cost?

That's why it could be BTO, so those who want it, could have it. Naturally Apple would also release their own Blu-Ray media alongside the drives.

a) Jobs would never give invitations to a rumor sites. He hates when info is leaking, so why would he support those who help to spread leaked infos...?

b) You can count on it that some people have an eye on the rumor community at Apple, not at least in order to find out if an Apple employee was too talk-blessedly about upcoming products again. I doubt that SJ himself has the time to read rumor sites regularly, but you never know... maybe once in a while he is with us here at macrumors as a guest reader...

It's not that I don't trust them, it's that the event is less than 48 hours away an we don't know what the invitation looks like. As we saw in the previous two special event invitations, what was on them means a lot. ;)

Or maybe he's a user on MacRumors... or maybe he's one of the moderators.

C'mon... someone who's come out on the cover of time magazine more than once wasting their time on rumor sites? I highly doubt it. At the most maybe Apple has a few people who work on the online support divisions that maybe check up on news and rumors sites to see what people are talking/complaining about.

Right on, fellow Brazilian compatriot..! Whoever posted such prediction does not remember what IBM said back then...the dual-dualies are gonna top out at 2.5 GHz...

I remember what IBM said just fine. But I also KNOW the reality. Apple routinely ships processors that run faster than they are officially specced to run at. Just look at G4!

What this means is that Freescale (for example) specs the CPU's for certain speed. But they check the CPU's, and those which can reach higher clock-speeds are shipped to Apple. So other's don't really get those faster processors, because they are meant for Apple. And I wouldn't be one bit surprised if same thing happened with G5.

IBM's documentation only mentions 970FX up to 2.2Ghz. So I guess 2.3 and 2.7GHz 970FX's don't exist then, huh? I wonder what CPU the 2x 2.3Ghz G5 and 2x 2.7Ghz G5 PowerMacs use.... Must be some magical CPU that doesn't really exist?
