I love my Ipads. But they are not laptops, they are not full computers, no matter how more powerful the CPUs are, the iPads OS is just not a computer OS. No real windows, no real productivity software due to app store, which is not an "applications store". No easy file manager, no easy way to organize thousannds of files and folders.

Not yet, anyways.

I still don’t understand for the life of me how to use the mail app properly on iOS / iPadOS. It’s so annoying, I end up copying Text from one email to the Notes App only to paste it into another email draft or how to get attachments from one email or an email itself attached to another email so I just wait till I am at Home and use the Computer

A portable PC is called a laptop...
Not really

I have to agree with what I boldfaced, because if you have to take an ad so seriously as to use disgusting descriptions....
It was not my intention. I’m sorry. As an old person I should have learned not to take things so seriously. Maybe it’s because I see myself as a loser trapped anywhere. And happiness bothers me because I can’t reach it. I’m sorry again. Maybe it would be more fair with you guys if I had written all this on a Reddit group about depression. Sorry if my words are disgusting, English is not my main language as you can see by my poor writing. Oh, I did it again. Took me too seriously. Love Macrumors. Love everybody that joins these conversations with an open heart and empathy. What I didn’t do. Sorry if I brought a bad mood. Or maybe I’m so pathetic that can be kind of funny. Best. Peace. Hope it does not sound passive aggressive. It’s not. And not ironic as it may sound. Usually I write to connect with people. Sorry to bring disconnection. Or sorry for those that felt nothing or indifferent. I’m just needy on my emotions. And also egocentric as you can see. Why would anyone bother to read all of this catharsis? Maybe someone trapped with PCs in the dark. Just like I’m locked inside my brain. Take care. Sincerely.

Just copy the text or attachment and paste it into the new email.

Total friggin' rubbish! Apple has made it clear with their lackluster iPadOS that iPads are for play, not getting work done. They just released another flop of an iPadOS which still has a garbage filing system. They finally make the iPad Pros powerful enough to take on laptops, but they keep the iPadOS as lackluster as they can. It takes three or four times longer to get computer work done on an iPad because the iPadOS fights you ever step of the way! it is too kluge and underpowered and riddled with bugs. Apple proved beyond a shadow of a doubt with iPadOS 15 that they have absolutely NO intention of turning iPad Pros into workhorse laptop killers. They are only interested in selling toys for gaming, video, music, and social media fluff. They gave us a workhorse of an iPad Pro, now they need to give us an iPadOS that can actually use that workhorse for something other than playing.

Apple have never once said that the iPad was going to replace your laptop. They have said from day 1 that the iPad is a computer for the masses…easy enough to use that grandma/ kids could use it without issue.

The sad fact of the matter is, the iPad was never a designed for the top 10% of users that have minority needs when it comes to applications or functionality. It was designed for the other 90% of the population.

It‘s true, us top 10% of the population look at the iPad, coveting it’s hardware specs, and say “I wish it could have ”proper” resizable windows”, “I wish it had a “real” file system” etc. All the while, 90% of the population looks at laptops and say “I wish they weren’t so big and noisy”, “I wish it wasn’t so hard to find what I am looking for”, “why does my work always disappear behind this window” etc.

The truth is, there is already a perfect device for us….it‘s a MacBook.

It’s easy to look at things from our narrow point of view and our very niche requirements and project that on the rest of the population as if that’s what they want. The truth is, 90% of the population want easy to use, portability, safety, security and battery life. There is no other substitute for the iPad for this group of people that performs as well as a laptop, with this level of ease of use, security, portability and battery life. Since giving one to my mother and grandmother, their “computer” use has increased exponentially and my tech support calls has went down correspondingly. Make it hard for this group of people and iPad sales will plummet.

For “professionals” the iPad is an adjunct to the Mac, not a replacement for.

I think that the Universal Control gives us a hint at how Apple views the iPad: unless you have very simplistic needs, it's an accessory to a Mac or a consumption device. I don't mean that in a derogatory way - some people do just need to do basic tasks.

The frustration is always with just a few tweaks it could be the only "computer" a lot more people need. But does Apple think that is in its best interest???

Universal control demonstrates, if anything, that Apple is moving iPad away from just an accessory to being a full fledged device with its own useful functionality. Previously with side car the iPad really was just an accessory, serving as an external display. Universal control is also bidirectional (and if not this year, it can easily be in the future), positioning the iPad and mac in a “different but equal” kind of relationship.

It seems like Apple is trying to sell the iPad as a minimalist elegant solution for getting work done. It just isn't for most productivity applications. iPadOS limitations just makes it unnecessarily cumbersome for even routine office work that often requires juggling multiple documents and applications within the framework of a full file system.

If you want a minimalist solution, get a M1 MacBook Air. A base 12.9 iPad Pro with Apple keyboard and pencil will run you $1,500. You can get an M1 MBA on sale for $900. It is just hard to beat a good reliable laptop for simplicity, productivity, and value.

Don't get me wrong. I think iPads are great. But, I don't see them as a way to simplify my work life. For me, they introduce complications and frustrations to my workflow.
There is a device targeted specifically at you…it’s a MacBook.

You are not the target audience of an iPad as a main device. Grandma is, my mother is, my kids are, my neighbours are. Just because a device is marketed as easy to use, why shouldn’t it have the power of a laptop? Why should my kids be made to wait whilst compiling their videos? Why shouldn’t the masses be able to have colour accurate screens? The experience of this 90% is important because these are the people who will buy Apple products again and again because there just is no other alternative to the iPad. It’s that good for this target audience.

You people need to get a grip. It’s an Ad…. Using the song from the Little Mermaid was genius. It’s about "what could be". But there are too many people here stuck in "tradition". Get over yourselves!

Of course, all those sad people in that video had a screen FAAAAAR larger than 12.9".

That's what I want. An iPad I can tote around but then when I want more space, connect it to a larger touch-screen and actually use it like I've got 2 touchscreens.

I still don’t understand why can’t I have an iPad that becomes a MacBook when I attach a keyboard and an iMac when I attach a display.
