The same reason you can’t do it with an iPhoneI still don’t understand why can’t I have an iPad that becomes a MacBook when I attach a keyboard and an iMac when I attach a display.

Simple explanation, you can't have something that doesn't exist.I still don’t understand why can’t I have an iPad that becomes a MacBook when I attach a keyboard and an iMac when I attach a display.
I think grointop has a catchier name.Man, if we only had some option to liberate us from desktops. I guess it's an iPad. One day, I hope for a computer small enough and advanced enough to be able to use on my knee. Like a kneetop computer. I'll work on the name...
An iPad is a computer, regardless of whether or not it has Excel installed. This argument is absurd until you can get the full version of Excel on iPad.
According to your post, unless someone does some kind of work on the iPad that you deem fit to call work as a definition for all users, that person is merely playing on his or her iPad. That is a very myopic viewpoint you have and one that is also very wrong.Total friggin' rubbish! Apple has made it clear with their lackluster iPadOS that iPads are for play, not getting work done. They just released another flop of an iPadOS which still has a garbage filing system. They finally make the iPad Pros powerful enough to take on laptops, but they keep the iPadOS as lackluster as they can. It takes three or four times longer to get computer work done on an iPad because the iPadOS fights you ever step of the way! it is too kluge and underpowered and riddled with bugs. Apple proved beyond a shadow of a doubt with iPadOS 15 that they have absolutely NO intention of turning iPad Pros into workhorse laptop killers. They are only interested in selling toys for gaming, video, music, and social media fluff. They gave us a workhorse of an iPad Pro, now they need to give us an iPadOS that can actually use that workhorse for something other than playing.
No. Just no. Apples and Oranges. Tear downs have clearly shown the M1 iPads are essentially identical to the guts of the M1 MBA other than minor differences mostly attributed to the hardware requirements of each form factor. Not bringing MacOS to the new Pros is a business choice, not a hardware restriction. The same reason you can’t do it with an iPhone
The M1 is essentially an A14 chip, which is found in the iPhone 12. They used an A12 chip in the Developer Mac Mini running Big Sur. What’s your point? No.
I think most people know that. What some people fail to realize, is others' computing needs aren't as demanding as their own. Or as demanding for tech people who hang out on tech forums, which is not Apple's largest customer demographic.
For many, a portable tablet with basic web browsing, email, messages, note-taking, light sketching/drawing, writing, etc is ideal.
There's a reason Apple dominates the tablet market, both in number of units sold and revenue. It's about understanding not everyone is into tech and many only need a great tablet with a great/responsive display for their casual needs. And... that some people who are into tech and have multiple regular computers, sometimes just want to *consume* with a tablet.
Because a computer does 100 things more than an iPad does, and better. Everything I saw in the ad was outside in the sunlight? Who does anything like that? Who would spend huge $$$ into a device with one very limited port and limited apps and memory/storage? Everything the ad shows, a laptop can do just as well, cheaper, and with more functionality.I wonder if the second part of your statement is still true. What does everyone need a computer for that does something an iPad doesn't do?
Does more. Not everyone needs them. However, can you take notes on it using an Apple Pencil? To give an example.Because a computer does 100 things more than an iPad does, and better. Simple explanation, you can't have something that doesn't exist.
What doesn't exist? At this point, the iPad's hardware is a MacBook. It does exist, but the software hasn't been released to use it like that. The same reason you can’t do it with an iPhone
The implication that working outdoors is better than working indoors is stupid.Nothing in the add says the folks with pcs are “solitary losers” and the folks with ipads are “cool people.” The ad says the people with pcs are stuck indoors, shackled to wall outlets, and the folks with ipads are free to enjoy the outdoors and move about.
The implication that working outdoors is better than working indoors is stupid.
Lots of people have a lot of fun working indoors on their desktop.
Bad argument.iPad can do lots of things a Mac can’t. Try drawing on your screen with an Apple Pencil. Or sitting in the park without wifi and connecting to the internet. Different tools with different trade-offs.
Yeah, most professional photo editing and graphic design studio I saw were iPad only...oh wait!Photo editing and graphic design are not work? The people who make their living doing those things will be surprised to learn that.
Which also means they never plan to make the iPad a laptop replacement.Universal control demonstrates, if anything, that Apple is moving iPad away from just an accessory to being a full fledged device with its own useful functionality. Previously with side car the iPad really was just an accessory, serving as an external display. Universal control is also bidirectional (and if not this year, it can easily be in the future), positioning the iPad and mac in a “different but equal” kind of relationship.
