Regent St, London store said 3 or 4 days....so perhaps Saturday, if not early next week?
Yesterday they said today though, so they've been wrong before. To be honest, I'm not convinced any of them really know until the units roll through the door :)

However in less than 5 years matte displays on lcd screens will be a thing of the past.

I could not disagree more. Is there anything at all, other than your own personal feelings, that make you think this?

All of that states Santa Rosa is the Centrino Upgrade.

And here
http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9584_22-6047083.html

Centrino has yet to be updated, it is the last processor line up to receive and upgrade. Santa Rosa is that update.

*cough-cough*

Centrino (Pentium M) -> Yonah (Core Duo) -> Merom (Core 2 Duo) -> Santa Rosa (Core 3 Duo)...

Trust me, Centrino is ancient now, like a G4.:p

One of my friends brought a 1.5 GHz 15" G4 PowerBook with 80 GB HDD and 768 MB DDR RAM to school. It is ghetto I tells you. I love the aluminum.:D

When we have this, I'm gonna buy a 15" MBP:
iLife '07
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Newly updated Core 3 Duo MBP with a higher screen res.:D

That is exactly what I ordered with the same dates. But I did upgrade to the 2 day shipping. Hope it comes ahead of time.

Apple just replaced my broken powerbook with a MBP through my Applecare for FREE. :D It just shipped today from Shanghai. Does this mean I am getting the newest model? or could i still be getting the pre-tuesday model?

Please Please Please DO NOT start calling anything in 2007 Core 3 Duo.

Core 3 Duo does not ship until the END of 2008.

Santa Rosa is a new chipset that surrounds Core 2 Duo Meroms with a new pin socket scheme. It is NOT Core 3 Duo.

Good luck to you, man! Hope it comes early!

On the advice of Neuroguy, I just called Apple to upgrade from "standard" to "2 day shipping" - it'll still ship 10/31, and arrive "on or before 11/3," so perhaps this would help? The extra shipping cost was only $15. The Apple rep was very nice, but she said they've been absolutely swamped with calls! No doubt!

How did you find that out, do you already have a tracking number?

called, I had to get my ADC memership verified and they said "its coming from overseas, so please allow 1 extra day for customs"

Norfolk store had the 15's yesterday. Didn't get the lowdown on how many of which config.

nice. i just called a couple of stores here in dallas but they still don't have them. one of them wrote down my name and number and said they will call me as soon as they receive some. she had no ETA though. i suspect possibly today, more likely tomorrow.

Which hard drive? 2.33Ghz 160Gb (5400rpm) or 2.33Ghz 200Gb (4200rpm)?

I know (almost) nothing about hard drives other than what I have learnt from this thread. But I have learnt (I think) that:

1. There are other factors than the rpm that affect the response speed (bit density etc etc)

2. The optimally efficient drive for the 15inch MBP is the 160Gb

3. There is not much difference between 5400 and 7200 as far as normal business is concerned, but for sustained reading or writing the difference would be noticeable. (Thanks darkwing.)

4. The speed of a drive diminishes the fuller it gets.

Question: under what conditions would I notice difference between the 160Gb and 200Gb drives and how significant would it be? Are we talking an extra 0.1 seconds to open a document? Or some apps that would just not work properly under certain conditions?

Can anyone translate the performance data into practical outcomes? I know what an extra 40Gb of space can give me, but no idea in practical terms what I would have to sacrifice to get it.

Anyone help?

Unfortunately i'm in the UK and they only have one shipping method (it is pretty fast UPS anyways).

The one chink of light is that when the status was 'Shipped by 31st' the delivery was 6th, so hopefuly as it has shipped so much earlier it should also get here earlier :)

Damned International Orders

Boy, am I glad that I just called Apple to check that my order was correct. I placed an order through the UK Apple Store for a stock 17" (plus various accessories) but the one complication that I added was that I needed a UK system to be delivered in Belgium since I'm an expat there and moving back next year. My email confirmation came through from the Belgian Apple Store last night and contained the following:

065-6667 - 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
065-6785 - 2GB 667 DDR2 - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
065-6598 - 160GB Serial ATA drive (5400rpm)
065-6597 - SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD RW/CD-RW)
065-6659 - MacBook Pro 17-inch Widescreen Display
065-6661 - Apple USB Modem
065-6200 - None
FN065-6604 - Backlit Keyboard & Mac OS
FN065-6603 - Country kit

It was the FN stuff at the end that bothered me and it turns out that I was right to be worried. FN means I'd have received a Finnish model. How they managed to get Finnish selected is anyone's guess but I'm glad I checked with them this afternoon. Now I'm just hoping that this "change" isn't going to result in a delayed order.

Incidentally, I'm not due to see mine for over 2-weeks (11th November), so for those who might be getting theirs in the next days I am supremely jealous. Bastards.

Wow, for it to have shipped already, you must've, fortunately, ordered very early! If it's already shipped 6 days ahead of schedule, hopefully you'll be enjoying it well before you leave!

God Speed!

:D
