Surface studio looks cool, like something out of a futuristic movie... that said, I don't think they're going to sell many.

If you change "surface studio" to "iMac" it sounds like a Windows user in 2003. You know, back when it was impossible to think of a scenario where Microsoft wasn't the #1 most profitable tech company. Talking paperclips, emojis. Next thing we'll have Schiller channelling Ballmer... Oh wait he already does.

Good to see Apple devoting so much ressources to emojis. Cause, you know, that's the most important thing users need right now....It's not like competitors are making Surface Studios and stuff like that...

Surface Studio looks flashy and "cool" until you realize its worthless unless you are an artist. And the machine is too underpowered to do any real 3D modeling on. Someone said ".... and hololens is awesome!" - hololens is an expensive but worthless toy. It has to be connected to a PC to work... so are you going to toss a laptop in your backpack, then run the cable from the backpack the hololens and walk around in public like robocop? you would look dumb as hell.

I am fascinated how many people on here want Apple to come up with a new invention every year - they don't just appreciate the fact that Apple has the most advanced tech ecosystem in existence. Microsoft nor Google can touch the apple ecosystem and I don't mean iTunes and iCloud. All the continuity features, the way apple devices communicate and work with each other like they are extensions of one another.

Are apple laptops and iPhones expensive? sure - but the price is worth it to me for the quality. Go pick up a android phone or windows phone - they are plastic pieces of crap. Go purchase a Windows laptop then try to sell it a year later - it holds no resale value because nobody wants a used windows PC of any kind. Yet a used MacBook will bring top dollar on eBay.

But back to the Apple ecosystem - Android phones and Windows machines are isolated machines that don't actually communicate with any other device, unlike all the devices in Apples ecosystem...

Examples:
  • being able to send and receive SMS text messages from your iPhone on your mac using a full sized keyboard...(and being able to answer calls on your mac - yes I do this when i have headphones attached to the mac)
  • universal copy and paste
  • being able to start something on one device and finish it on another (handoff)
  • using your iPhone as a remote for the apple tv (and being able to use the iPhone keyboard to type things in a search bar on the apple TV, or for that matter being able to use voice control for your apple TV)
  • being able to load up iTunes songs on your apple watch and use a wireless headset to listen to watch iTunes during a workout so you don't have to take your phone with you
  • purchasing apps on macOS that have companion controls surfaces for iPad

Apple is the ONLY one that has a COMPLETE device and software ecosystem. And while the things on my list sounds like small things individually, together they make the Apple ecosystem BY FAR the best by a long shot. Microsoft can't even come close to touching these things and Google is even further away because they don't even have a desktop OS.

All you people saying Apple are losers and all that now - you are mentally ill or dumb (or both). Go ahead and sell all your apple stuff and go buy a windows PC and an android phone... you will soon realize how ****** those are and will most likely come back to apple with great haste.

Why people bother to come on MR just to b*tch, complain, and just bring negativity is annoying as hell. Show them where it hurts....with your wallets. Don't like the products? Buy something else which offers more to your liking. Don't like software updates? Go to Android where your phone carrier dictates when you get updates.

**You all also do realize that the emojis are accepted/updated by a Unicode Consortium right? Apple just adds them to align with the Unicode 9....but I assume you'd complain and cry about it anyway***

For a moment, I thought you said 'Unicorn Consortium' and I was like, "How awesome is that?!?"

... then I re-read. And my dreams were crushed.

I already reached a point where I'm having a hard time finding the emoji I'm looking for because of the sheer amount of emoji. Glad we're getting even more to zift through.

Type the word describing the emoji you want, and then switch to the emoji keyboard to easily select the emoji for your word(s)....or you can just leave the word typed out and forget about the emoji

Jesus.... Some people need to lighten up a bit :D
Don't take everything you read at face value.

I'd rather eat crushed glass while listening to Celine Dion than use Windows ( although less and less these days), but i'm happy that the Surface Studio will feel like a slap in the face to Apple, cause they're getting way too complacent and confortable. I think it's a real wake up call.

Who needs Mac Pros when you get new Emojis! My world has changed forever!
Thank you, whatever-emojis you are.
How about some Mac Pro emojis? So we can remember how they looked like...

It's due to (some) people not having any power or happiness in their lives. Bashing relieves that feeling of emptiness, a quick fix of sorts, and provides a sense of being in control, with power.

Apple has their teen user bases covered. John Ive slaved over a few pixels to bring us this revolution in graphic communication.

Meanwhile, Pro users must wait. Their machines are powerful enough, right?

Star rating is back! And it's more awkward then ever, because since Apple had to bring it back due to customer demand, they decided to make it so awkward to use, that the customers asking for it are - again - being punished.

And thanks for yet another setting entry, to make customization even more weirder. Because if you turn on star settings in the settings again, you probably can't use the compass anymore. (Remember that you had to switch on the visual perspectives so you could use some imessage settings? There's more where that came from...)

I was deeply worried.....thank God Apple showed me they still have a clue of what to do, EMOJI!!!!

Now release some watch bands and I am all set!
Yay!

I wonder how Apple can not feel the cynicism of so many Apple fans who love the company and are growing more cynical day by day. Is it because they just don't care or is it because they have become too involved in their own world?

Give me back the gun emoji so I can express my extreme displeasure for no new Mac desktops.
[doublepost=1478023762][/doublepost]

Apparently not if they can't produce a frickin desktop in 3 years

I agree the time is absurd. Shame on Apple... However, my point is that there are different departments working on different things. Whether the department is slow, all the other departments within the company must go on and is silly to think a department should stop everything and focus on something else. Then everyone would be complaining why they aren't focusing on other areas. Everlasting complaints.

Well, with the direction I see apple is going, I am propably out of the loop. I am not into emojis, apple watch, touchbars, siri, in app purchases (EVERYWHERE) friggin apple music, itunes, adapters, no more drag and drop from photo app, and others, and the little thinner than the little thinner than last year thin desktop, laptops and iphones.. They are focusing on all the nonimportant things that noone really asked for.

My god what happen to Apple and the products I loved and used... I dont see myself buyin more apple stuff anymore, theres nothing new that benefits my music production at all.

I will not continue to update my appleproducts anymore cause theres nothing I use or need in the updates. Now I hope that my macpro will last for many many years. The more money that came to apple - the more they lost the creativity, the think different, and innovation. Its all very very sad..

While true, it is irrelevant and does not discount legitimate gripes. What apple spends on the "emoji team", they could have earmarked for the "making an expandable rather than expendable computer team"

Sure. Though I think we can both agree that the "Emoji Team" is probably capable of putting out twice the amount of work that the hardware team does, even if they aren't earmarking talent in the appropriate areas. Thus we get these superfluous emoji updates more often than new MacBooks, iMacs, etc.

If we all voted for which emoji to send to Tim Cook, I think we would unanimously choose the middle finger option.

So, has overreacting to and bitching about the new emoji in a release of an update replaced the claims of "safari feels snappier?"
Yes :)
But Sierra really feels snappier than ElCapitan. Installed it on two of my macs so far and quite happy with it.

Now back to bitching about the emojis.

Where else are we supposed to complain?

People who come to macrumors to complain about the complainers annoy me.

Missing quite a bit of what's in iOS 10.2 that directly relates to what you seem to want from an update.

Firstly, were you thinking hordes?

Seriously though I can't tell if you're being serious or you're just at work bored to tears and entertaining yourself by trolling about emoji.

Do you realize how ridiculous you sound? Do you understand what Unicode is, how and by whom it's developed, what role companies like Apple have in adopting the standard, and how that work does not come at the expense of finding and fixing bugs or other problems?

My Bluetooth issues were fixed on 10.1 but Hoping this one solves my CarPlay issues, which I thought where the same but aren't.

+1

Hoping for CarPlay fixes as well. Downloading now...will test on my drive home.

Where it fits in? Seems like complaining about Macs or something related in a thread about an iOS update doesn't fit in, right? Or generalizing things to make fun of some small piece of an update that's not really important while completely ignoring everything else about it doesn't really seem like it contributes much of anything, right?
So, has overreacting to and bitching about the new emoji in a release of an update replaced the claims of "safari feels snappier?"
Pretty much. It's "emoji", "courage", "watchbands", something or other about pro--all have needlessly come to have about as much impact and meaningfulness as that whole "safari is snappier" meme.
