I've played with some at the apple store and still haven't felt the need to buy one. I have a fitbit to track my steps and sleep (I like data), and that's all I really want from a wearable. I would be more inclined to buy it if it had a better battery life.

Battery life is fine. Yesterday was the first time that I pushed it in a day and that was because of two long workouts.

The more they show people with their hands full - and having their apps right on their wrist, the more I understand why the device is actually useful. Like the Mum taking the phone call while holding her baby. Or, as in a previous ad, someone cycling and having the Map on their wrist.

This isn't "We have [insert app here] on the Watch because before you couldn't [apps function here] until now!" but rather your apps in a new form factor.

I started biking more recently and when I saw your message about biking with the map on the wrist, well good idea but you can't get bike route/direction, because Apple Map doesn't offer that information yet.

Let's hope they update the Map app soon.

Totally agree. When the watch launched, I thought I'd really want it and would have to make myself hold off until it got GPS. As time has gone on and I've seen how Apple markets it/intends it to be used, I've realized it just isn't a device I need (or particularly want). It's not even that I don't like apple's implementation, it's just that I can't see the point of the device category itself, and these ads do nothing to convince me otherwise.
You won't know why you need one until you have one. The first day I was swarming for something to wow me. By the third week I couldn't imagine being without it.

Ok, I'm just gonna say it. The Watch needed a revolutionary design, revolutionary UI and revolutionary technology. The Apple Watch has neither. It wasn't supposed to be a Watch! It had to be a band! A revolutionary wearable! They just followed the competitors. Imagine if Apple had released the iPhone with a blackberry design, it's the same thing.
What the heck is revolutionary about a band? Plus a band signals 100% fitness. I don't think Apple is aiming for Watch to be that niche.

Well, for the most part you can get walking or driving directions and be somewhat ok. Walking for sure.

Dude, there are other biking apps that have bike directions and Watch compatibility. Search the store.

you think wrong

Two thoughts...

The first two videos portray "girlfriends", not "friends", as MacRumors stated. That was obvious, and caught my attention as Apple's first inclusion of gay couples in their advertising? Correct me if I'm wrong.

The last scene of the last video also piqued my interest... filling the ring by doing more exercises. That's a great motivation example and would work for me!

I think the skeptics of the Apple Watch are viewing it as a replacement for phones, but it's not... not by a long shot. It's a closer-to-hand extension of said devices.

Looks great in theory but in reality it just doesn't work so well.
Not because the Apple watch is not a great product but because if you are abroad you most of the time do not have internet access. Data plans for other countries are really expensive. I spent the last 3 weeks abroad with my Apple watch and it was practically useless outside of the Hotel.

So your limited experience lays down judgement for the device for everybody? I have first-hand knowledge that data in other countries is not expensive if you know what to look for and have planned properly, and the options are changing all of the time. It's getting better and more options are coming online faster than ever before. So the Apple Watch is very usable in other countries.

For driving the watch is too small to give direction. For walking, i walk too slow and too short distance to get lost. Having map on your wrist while biking is perfect!

Love ads, but still waiting for longer battery life. While doing that i'll get misfit shine for 70 bucks.

Hetero women often refer to their female friends as "girlfriends". I'm not reading anything more than that into it.

Cool commercials. Like the Berlin / Beijing tourist swap. Pretty clever and good way to show how the same product can be used universally. That being said, they should have waited until 2.0 release of the software so you can get some real world usage with the apps. In their current form it just doesn't cut it. But I do love my Apple Watch, not for everyone but works for me.

I've had my Watch going on six weeks now.

Purchased it figuring I'd probably be handing it back at the end of the 14 day return window. I was very skeptical that I'd stick with it not having worn a watch in 10 years. After the two week period it was a no way I'm returning it. The Watch's utility and convenience quickly grew on me.

Though I use it for much more (email and other notifications, exercise/fitness tracking, Siri queries, timers, etc) I especially like being able to quickly tell the time/date without fishing my phone from my pocket.

This. The catch-22 for Apple . . . convincing people to buy something new that they don't yet realize they'll "need" till they buy it and use it/play with it. These ads are a start, but they need to work on making the watch relevant to average working "stiffs" and how it can make things "easier" for them . . . not for people traveling overseas visiting museums, or dancing, etc. That is simply not me and most of the people who have already purchased iPhones.

Loved the parallelism of two German women visiting China, and two Chinese women visiting Germany. On opposite sides of the plane, looking out the windows, and visiting art galleries with the direction and viewpoint flipped.

convincing people to buy something new that they don't yet realize they'll "need" till they buy it and use it/play with it.
It was the exact same thing with the iPhone. And the iPad. And now look where we are;Third time around, it's just boring and sad, especially with the 20:20 hindsight of history. Pavlov's dog learned faster.

They left out the daily use video where the sunrise/sunset time doesn't work randomly, the part where you can't check your calendar further than six days out, the part where you answer the phone on your actual phone.... and the Watch keeps ringing, the part where apps are ridiculously slow to load, the part where Siri dictation randomly doesn't work at all (no words appear on the Watch while it "thinks"), the part where "Hey Siri" doesn't work consistently and you're left slightly embarrassed... and all the other bugs that absolutely infest the Apple Watch.

And yes, I do still love my Watch. But boy, does it need some work..

(And if it sounds like I'm bitter, it's because I am.)

And it sounds like you care by bitching so much.

Agree with you. When it works the watch is really awesome and I love it. But when one of these issues crops up, which is every day, makes the watch really annoying. Apps loading very slow, if they load at all. hey siri just not working, Siri dictation just crashing. Apple watch iPhone app crashing, Installs and updates to apple watch apps causing my iPhone to lock and freeze and crashing the whole phone. Some apple watch apps not installing or uninstalling. Location aware passbook passes not showing in notifications on the watch. Watch randomly locking up.

I have a support call into apple, and they think its my iPhone 6 causing the issues (they see lots of crashes on it) They want me to do a complete wipe of my iphone and not restore from backup, which I refused. If i kill all the apps on my iPhone, usually the watch seems to work fine (apps load in around 5 seconds instead of spinning into oblivion). Im hoping watch OS 2 and iOS 9 fixes the bugs.

These commercials demonstrate all three environments where a watch app is useful.

1) Hands busy environment (holding children)
2) Low profile use in a hostile environment (an "SOS" graduating the ole high-sign to a wearable)
3) Single Look during divided attention (currency values, exercise statistic)

... I think there are two kinds of people in this world... those that like Apple Watch... and logical people.

If you haven't learned it yet, logical people are not always successful.

I have been around way too many disciplined logical geniuses totally broke with no creativity in their blood. But damn, they can run a spreadsheet or figure out the crowd size and average color hue of clothing worn to determine what music to play as a DJ.

The irrational ones with a good sense of ethics are the ones that cash in the most. Follow their vision and reap the rewards.
