Apple today released the first official update to the iOS 10 operating system, just 10 days after releasing iOS 10 to the public and two days after seeding the first iOS 10.1 beta.

iOS 10.0.2 can be downloaded as an over-the-air update on all devices running iOS 10.

Today's update includes fixes for several minor bugs that have been discovered since the operating system was released.

A bug that caused the new Lightning EarPods designed for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus to stop working properly has been addressed. EarPods have been timing out after a short period of time when listening to music, rendering the remote unresponsive and unable to control volume, access Siri, and answer phone calls.

The update also resolves an issue that caused Photos to quit for some users when activating iCloud Photo Library and fixes an issue that prevented enabling some app extensions.

iOS 10 is a major update that includes features like a redesigned Lock screen experience, a revamped Messages app with a full App Store, a Siri SDK for developers, new looks and features for Maps and Apple Music, and tons more.

Update to 10.0.2 install error. Passcode screen keeps coming back up on the screen.

I'd be curious to see if there are battery life improvements as since upgrading to ios10 my 6s has barely made it to 5pm before needing a charge.

Yeah I'm curious to see this too. Battery life for me has took a noticeable drop since iOS 9.

Does anyone else with an iPhone 6 have problems with iOS crashing to a spinning wheel? It is happening to me at least once a day. Screen goes black, spinning circle, then eventually it comes back to the springboard.

What is 10.0.1 if it's not an "official" update?
Since 10.0 wasn't released to the public as an update and 10.0.1 was the initial iOS 10 update, it can be said that this is the first official update to the publicly released version of iOS 10.

Now what the haters have to say?

Good luck with your Android now!

This has nothing to do with Android or any other OS, these are major bugs that cannot wait for a 10.1 release.

Why gloat and be smug that apple has to release 10.0.x patches? These are not a good sign in relation to quality of software, there are emergency patches, and given we just got iOS 10, we are already on a second one, with another coming before 10.1

LMAO!

Google and Microsoft also release patches oftenly, what you have to say about that?

Also, Apple releases what would be in Windows a driver update, with a system update, that's how they designed it.

Have fun with your pocket bomb or something. And enjoy 2 years old version of Android. And FYI, this is the first patch of iOS 10, not the second one.

Have you noticed any trends that kill your battery? For me, it seems to be Safari. For example, if I look at my battery usage over the last 24 hours - Safari has used 22% but has spent only 34 minutes on screen. Where as Music has been used for 6 hours but only used 18%.

So far all is OK here on two 6's.

That is not the design of the feature. Working correctly, your phone will connect to your car via bluetooth for services like handsfree calling or audio. Once you leave your car and break the connection your phone should record a location and later report that to you once you go look for it. I've had it work off and on but at the moment its not.
Same with me. Worked for a few times. Now not working. Cool thing is that my car location was recorded on the map widget. I liked that.

So to be very clear, I've been able to do things like multitasking, file system access, customization, waterproofing, etc., with (Samsung and other) Android devices that I still cannot do with iPhone, for years now.

iOS can't multitask? That's an outright lie. Now I know why you're upset I called the haters liars. Seems I hit a little too close to home.

If you want to discuss technology, fine. If you're going to recite from the "Top 10 Things iPhones/iOS Can't Do" meme list then don't waste my time.

The marking of my car is working fine for me. However, my phone used to give me a notification like "Traffic is normal, 22 minutes to work" or "Traffic is heavy, 45 minutes to home" when I got into my car. Now it's stopped.

To be fair, he could be referencing a different form of multitasking than simply being able to play music in the background. Nougat brought with it split-screen functionality (complete with the ability to run the same app side by side) and video PIP for your smartphone. iOS might eventually give us that, but I can't deny that Android is currently better in that regard (for the small group of people who will eventually get Nougat at any rate).

Yes. This also stopped for me.

Not working on my iPhone 6. iPhone is stuck at starting screen with white background and black apple logo for an hour. Every few minutes, the screen would flash and back to apple logo :(

I use a iPhone 6S plus.

What I am talking about is quality of software, software we all use. There has been an increase of patches from Apple.

Microsoft, Google etc, are irrelevant, we use iPhones, and its runs IOS, our best customer experience is to have the least 10.0.x patches fixing major bugs that cannot wait for a scheduled releases which are 10.x.

If seeing other companies releasing patches makes you feel better, thats fine, what they do has no impact on the quality of iOS 10 for me.

My preference is for the Apple dev team to be given more time each year to release software that has less bugs, the current marketing timeframes are not realistic from a SDLC, hence we are seeing an increase of minor releases post launch. Thats all.

As a customer I want better software. I lost some work I was doing yesterday on my Mac Pro, my fault for updating to Sierra on launch though, should have waited till a few major updates in.

Do you understand that these fixes are just last minute fixes that happen with every hardware or major software release?

It has always been this way with every iOS release, it's nothing new. Grow up and stop looking at the past only with rose colored glasses.

Parked car shows up on my map, though not usually for at least 5 minutes after I disconnect from Bluetooth or CarPlay. I've never once seen a notification about my parked car location though.

The Map Destinations widget is supposed to show traffic based on frequent locations and appointments. Under iOS 9 I found it took around a month to figure out where I worked (even though it's in my contact) and even then it wouldn't always give me traffic. So far in iOS 10 it's learned my home location, but not my work location. Sometimes my parked car location shows up as a destination.

Don't blame me for your lack of reading comprehension. Seems you need to go back to whatever school you learned English from, and demand a refund.

I love discussing technology. You're the one still whining about liars or about my feelings. How amusingly hilarious.

I didn't say iPhone cannot multitask (although what it does is fancy app switching, but that's a whole 'nother conversation). I said I'd been able to do it for years...plural...before iPhone. And to be clear, I'm referring to split-screen multitasking.

So I ask again, remind me of when did iPhone come up with something (meaningful) ahead of Android?

On the other hand, never mind.

You'll waste my time with some other way to poke at my feelings, when the only one I feel is best represented by my profile pic.

Clearly, it wasn't "pretty obvious" that you (or Zirel) were referring to "the haters" and not Android users (thus generating a response). Both Zirel and you lacked enough context in your post to make the distinction clear, aside from making a distinct connection between "haters" and Android (as opposed to, say, Windows Phone). Thanks for clearing that up.

You also did not simply state a fact: you implied the "haters" are liars. Yet nothing comes out of a vacuum. Had you not resulted to including (implied) insults, the context of your post would have not been lost.

On an anecdotal note (pun intended), security updates are fairly forthcoming for my Note5 on T-Mo.

In addition, my Note5 does everything I want it to do, so I do not need to look forward to updates like iOS users do, given that Apple is generally slower to implement features than Google. iPhone has nothing I need. YMMV.

In your world there is clearly no such thing as bug fixes, security updates and under the hood improvements.

I think there might have been something wrong with your phone then, the battery life on the S7 Edge is very very good, much better than any iPhone. Always-on display and fast-charge is great. Most of the hardware complaints people have with the iPhone, even the 7 series, are resolved with the S7 Edge.

Although, I do agree with the integration, mostly that I can't sync bookmarks with the built in Internet browser. I probably could with Chrome, but that doesn't support adblockers, which is a real pain. Outside the US, most people use WhatsApp, so iMessage largely irrelevant. I was a reluctant switcher after being an iPhone user since the original but lack of decent innovation pushed me to the S7 Edge and I don't regret it. Oh, and split-screen apps are great too.

But I don't want to come across as a troll, I just wish Apple had kept up with the competition more.

With things such as

1) Having the best SOC by far. I mean its not even close, even the 6s is better than the 50 core snapdragons.
2) 3D Touch?
3) Touch ID?
4) One of, if not the most accurate display displayMate ever tested?
5) Camera?

OLED display response in 3, 2, 1

I can courageously confirm it doesn't fix the headphones remote locking up. Happened to me today on 10.0.2.

On iOS 10.0.1 or 10.0.2?
