What’s “embarrassing”? That they release regular hot fixes after a major release? I literally do not understand what you mean.
After testing iOS 15 in beta for many months, there shouldn’t be such obvious bugs in such super common use cases. If it was like “when taking a photo of a stop sign at 12:34 am, the camera app will crash if the phone is connected to a Kenwood car stereo”, I’d understand how something like that slips through.
But “crashes when playing music through CarPlay” should have gotten caught in advance.

Apple today released iOS 15.0.2, the second update to the iOS 15 operating system that was released in September. iOS 15.0.2 comes a week and a half after the launch of iOS 15.0.1, a bug fix update.

The iOS 15.0.2 update can be downloaded for free and the software is available on all eligible devices over-the-air in the Settings app. To access the new software, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

According to Apple's release notes, the update fixes an issue that could cause images saved to your Photo Library from Messages to disappear after the associated message or thread is deleted.

iOS 15.0.2 also fixes an issue that could cause the iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe not to connect to Find My, and a bug that could cause AirTags not to appear in the Find My Items tab. There's a fix for a CarPlay bug that could cause CarPlay to fail to open audio apps, and an issue that could cause device restore or updates to fail on iPhone 13 models. when using Finder or iTunes. Apple's full release notes are below:Apple has also released iPadOS 15.0.2 for iPad models, with fixes for the Messages bug, the AirTag bug, and a bug that could cause device restore or update to fail on an iPad mini 6 when using Finder or iTunes.

Apple's security support page for the updates says that iOS and iPadOS 15.0.2 address a vulnerability that could allow an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, a bug that Apple says could have been actively exploited.

For that reason, all users should make sure to update to the latest software as soon as possible.

Be aware iPad Pro stays stuck in verifying updates. So frustrating. Wish Apple would get it right before releasing it to the public.

So now 15.x patches a vulnerability that's supposedly being exploited in the wild. Fine. Is 14.x not subject to the same vuln? We were supposed to be able to run 14.x and still have support. There's still nothing in 15.x that would make me want to install it, save security fixes that 14.x doesn't get.

But, does it fix problems with device restores or updates for the iPhone 7 Plus? Spent 3 days recovering from … good thing I had a backup before the one the upgrade does… that backup was bad and then couldn’t be found after I restarted iTunes. Used a 3rd party app to recover ….

I am just waiting for iOS 16 when Safari reverts back to a more orthodox and traditional UI on iOS and the bugs introduced in these initial releases of iOS 15 are a thing of the past.

Not upgrading to any release of iOS 15 on my iPhone X! I'm out!!

There is a scene in an 80s classic UK tv comedy about a guy who says he’s had the same broom for 20 years and really looked after it. He’s changed the head and the handle a few times but, apart from that, it’s the original broom. I mention this because there seem to be so many patches these days, I think there is no original code left of the .0 version much quicker than there used to be!

They still didn't do much to fix the touch issues on the 13 Pro along with various UI performance bugs and Safari being really bad with some sites that work just fine on my iPhone 11 Safari browser (like B&H) where the rest of the page doesn't load and just rubber bands.

Softare is infinitely more complex than a stick of wood and some bristles.

The Quality of iOS releases doesn’t seem to be improving at all. Since iOS 12 I’ve had issues with iOS, some of those issues such as the constant mail app problems, apple notes not remembering that I’ve chosen gallery view, apps crashing for no apparent reason. Seem to just be getting ignored by apple. And, these little bugs seem to be mounting up. iOS just doesn’t seem as polished and reliable as it used to be.

I’m hoping, that because iOS 15 doesn’t add too many new features that apple are going to work on these bugs. So, fingers crossed apple keep the bug fixes coming.

According to this researcher (from Microsoft MSRC) the zero-day works on iOS versions at least back to 14.7.1, probably further:

I assume (hope) that Apple will release a patch for iOS 14 soon.

Anyone else having problems installing on an iPad Pro? Just like the previous...stalls out at 'installing'. Had no problems with the phone or watch.
