Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums, but not to the website. :)

Anyways, I just updated my 3GS to 4.1 and it seems a bit snappier than 4.0.
Hopefully apps will be updated to support Game Center today!

By the way, my Game Center ID is: mikeps20

The HDR pictures are beautiful. Definitely a welcome addition. I only wish Game Center had some games to play.

Proximity Sensor?

Can anyone confirm whether the proximity sensor issue has been fixed or not?
(Besides the guy who doesn't know that there is a button on the top of his phone)

The 3GS camera is too slow to do HDR. Simple as that. Its burst rate was a lot better than the turtle-like 3G camera, but nothing close to the 4.

There is a pretty easy way to have the highest level iPhone each year without paying (and you can probably even make a little money). I had the 16 GB iPhone 3G from its launch. Unfortunately I cracked its screen but when I upgraded to the 32 GB iPhone 3GS I was still able to sell the cracked 3G for ~$275. This year when I bought my 32 GB iPhone 4, I was able to sell my 3GS for ~$325. Both sold on eBay so very simple. You just gotta keep on top of it.

some of us don't care

my wife has a 4, i have a 3GS. doesn't bother me at all

anyone know if they fixed the thumbnail issue in photo gallery where your older (pre 4.0.1 i think?) photos were showing up as black squares?

aside from the camera enhancements (which the over-exposure currently is kinda rough), the fix on the photo gallery thumbnails is what i'm most looking forward to.

That's a worry.

My sister has my old 3G unlocked by O2 when I got my iPhone 4. Don't want to yell her the update is out if it knackers the unlock. Anyone else confirm this?
Let us know what happens.

Mine is legally unlocked by O2 aswell and i normally get the same 'your iphone is unlocked screen' like you mentioned ... Mmmm... Not this time.

Cant see it being re locked though as all UK iphones are factory unlocked now. which is ace.

I just started downloading 4.1 and the status bar shows 10 hours until download is complete  Should I cancel the download and retry it?

Crikey. Now you guys have me scared to upgrade.

I bought my phone unlocked. I'd hate to see it turned into a £199 phone.

Tried that, I'm getting a 404 Not Found error from iTunes. What gives?

Then the remaining option is to restart your computer and try again or simply wait and be patient (annoying i know), servers are probably getting hammered.

Another option is to use the direct links on the first page and then use Option+Restore

Some of us don't have $200-$300+ to burn on a new phone each year. Mine is from February 2009. My phone should not have less than half of the performance that it had when I bought it along with a two year contract.

I am managing my own memory on this stupid thing like it's an old computer system from the '80s, where system memory was a very expensive and limited resource.

While the recession might be over, many of us working folks have not seen a cost of living raise in years, and some have even taken paycuts. I had expected this phone to last 2+ years. I am extremely disappointed. This phone cost me ~ $326 for a 16GB 3G phone with a two year contract.

Just because you have the luxury to buy a new phone each year doesn't mean everyone else does too.

Well stated. It would also be nice if Apple would give users a way to downgrade back to iOS 3.x if they are suffering from poor performance on their 3G. There's no reason that you all should have had to suffer (relatively speaking) and wait for months for Apple to release 4.1 in order to get your phones working as expected again after installing 4.0. It's not like you all were installing an OS that was unsupported on your devices.

DAMN!!!!!!!

10 pages of mac lovers.....this topic is a HIT!!!!:apple: ruleZZZZ!

after a long time this thread is getting most of the positive vote (if you take a look at it) ; it is about time 4.1 arrived with expected bug fixes; every one happy or most of us happy.

Apparently there are no games in the Game Centre.

Worst. Rollout. Ever.

(Haven't devs had since the 4.0 SDK in the Spring to make them compatible? Unless Apple hasn't approved any yet...)

the game has to be coded for multi player from the beginning otherwise there is no point. and with apple's secrecy until the last possible moment it's not like devs could have built a game to use it

Can I update on a different computer than I use to sync my stuff? I don't want to loose all my music/apps.

Can anyone confirm whether the proximity sensor issue has been fixed or not?
(Besides the guy who doesn't know that there is a button on the top of his phone)

There are widespread reports that it is definitively fixed. There are also posts (from me among others) that it is not. My subjective impression is that it is much improved but not solved, at least in my particular case.

Well, I just found a strange issue with Mail. I have 3 accounts setup. On 4.0.2 they were in the right order I added them: "A" "G" "R"... after updating to 4.1, "R" moved to the top and "A" is now second and "G" is last...

They're not synced with my computer (in iTunes). I tried deleting "R" and adding it again (thinking it would show up 3rd in the list and the other two would move up) but no... it came right back at the top of the list.

They're all 3 Hotmail accounts set up with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync if that makes a difference. I hope this can be fixed!

What made 3GS users assume that HDR was coming to their device?

The demo at the keynote showed the iPhone 4 using the feature, and there was no mention of the 3GS or it's inferior camera.

I have to admit, listening to 3GS owners moan about not getting new features is utterly enjoyable after some of the crap and borderline ridicule they dished out to 3G users around the time multi-tasking and (especially) home screen wallpapers were confirmed as no-go for the 3G. At that time, I personally owned a 3G and the level of sheer enjoyment coming from 3GS users with their superiority complex was astounding.

They're tasting their own medicine now. Enjoy.

swings and roundabouts, next year the ip5 crowd will be mocking the ip4 about something else.

I never said a word to my friends when i got bought a 3GS as a present when they 1st came out, but it really must have bothered them as i haven't stopped hearing about how much better their 4's are.

Nothing beats free tho. haha

Also for those worrying about their o2 unlocked phones re-locking as they didn't get the 'congratulations' screen, don't worry!!!! The unlock is fine (tested just incase). all UK iphones are still loving being free to pick and choose their carriers.

I don't notice a massive difference with the HDR, yes it brings out detail in shadows, maybe its because its going dark here?
