Apple Releases iOS 5 Beta 2 to Developers

My favorite change...

They did a great job fixing the lock screen, specifically the app-unlock slide mechanics.

In beta one it was difficult to slide to unlock direct to app without sliding up or down. Now, as long as you start on the icon you can drift without affecting the slide.

Also, the new initial notification pop-up while locked. And the the new snooze button.

The whole lock screen is looking much better.

Yes and yes ... MBP to a AEBS to (natch) iPhone 4.

I too have no WiFi SYnc option. No clue why. I get where it should be. I am running Beta 2 on both, but it simply isn't there. Very strange.

Why the HELL does the device need to be plugged into a power source? The only advantage of wireless syncing is that you can sync even if you're not charging it, i.e. wirelessly, when your device is already charged! I hate having to plug in an already charged device just to sync it, if it could do all of that wirelessly! What a useless feature. Disappointing and lame!

HBO crashes on start for me on both iphone 4 gsm and ipad 2 gsm.

I can confirm this as well...

HBO - crash
Netflix - starts, no go for actually watching though
WatchESPN - works great
Pandora - no issues
Napster - no issues

But those are not endorsed by Apple. To Apple the only official programming tools for iOS is Xcode, which can only be ran on OSX.

That is the point they are trying to make.

Has anyone tried to convert their Mobileme account to an icloud account? i couldn't do it on Beta 1, and I really don't want to make another one..

The whole mobileme, appleid, icloud, email thing confuses me and fustrates me..

i have an itunes account that is an old .mac email address that wasn't upgraded to mobileme.. i still use it as an ichat log in.
I have a mobileme family account and i use to sync..

big pain in my rear.

This happened to me with the first beta, but the photos all returned after restarting the iphone.

Anyone having issues with activation for facetime and imessage for their phone number? Mine seems stuck on waiting for activation... Worked flawlessly on beta 1.

The release notes say that Facetime has been disabled for this beta.

They also say that Message.app isn't compatible between beta 1 and beta 2.

Aye, they appear to have removed the feature where Safari crashed when you scrolled the page. I kinda liked that...stopped the wife from buying shoes for about a week!

You don't HAVE to have your iPhone charging when you do a wireless sync. It's just recommended you do as it could be a big battery drain. Which is probably why Apple delayed introducing it for so long.

Hmmm whenever I receive a text message the pop-up/banner alert shows the phone number and not the name of the sender. But if I get another one from that same person before I open the first one, the alert will say the name.

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks..seems to have corrected itself after the sync finished, although I now have the "waiting to reconcile" issue. Oh the joys of the cutting edge...

Different thing. It wasn't even listing it under "other". It wasn't building the bar as it had done in the other iTunes, IIRC.

Since going to iOS 5 B2 and New iTunes 10.5 B2 and now having this problem. Anybody else see this problem. Have same problem with iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I think it is related to Pictures (not sure). I am using iPhoto and have it set to Sync the entire library and Include Videos. Never a problem in the past even with B1 of both.

I have this problem too. iTunes wont go pass the "Waiting for changes to reconcile".

I have this problem only when syncing with the USB. As soon as I do wifi sync, I don't have a problem.

It's not biggie, but they only said photos would do it....

In this beta, iTunes may incorrectly report Photos as "Other" in the capacity bar. Photo syncing otherwise works as expected.

...at least that's the only instance of it I read.

Once syncing has finished it does however update and show the correct information.
