after upgrading the firmware and restoring from an iCloud backup, it won't sync my music playlists or podcasts. restarted the phone and iTunes but no dice. playlists are checked and everything too. anyone else see this?

So I tried restoring to update to Beta 3 and I get this message: The iPhone could not be restored because the firmware is not compatible.

I have iTunes Beta 3 and iOS 5 Beta 3.

Here you go :)

iTunes
The version of iTunes that comes with beta 3 cannot sync devices that have the beta 2 software installed. To avoid this problem, do the following:

Sync any devices that have beta 2 installed to the version of iTunes that came with beta 2.

Upgrade iTunes to the version that comes with beta 3.

Connect the device and install the beta 3 software. (Understand that you might see a failure to sync error when you first connect the device.)

After installing the beta 3 software, restore from your the backup you made in step 1.

I completely agree! I have a Pioneer GPS/DVD/NAV radio in my car that is 2 years old which has NEVER seen and will NEVER see a software update from Pioneer. Most electronic makers consider the software that ships with the device the final it will ever see, unless there is a major problem that needs fixing, then and only then will they push out an update. Before the iPhone and now Android and others, when did you ever get a new software update for your Nokia? Motorola RAZR? Nope. If you wanted new features, you bought a new phone.

Yep, with the iPhone you get two major updates, for two years, this is fantastic! Android guys will change at least 3 flagship phones during that period cause Android updates are a mess!

An iPhone is relevant for three years... 3GS is a 2009 phone! And with iOS 5 you'll be pretty much set till 2012, when iPhone 6 comes up, then I'd say it's time to upgrade. Which 2009 Android can boast that?

What is voice chat? Is that just the API level VOIP support, or is there like some non-video FaceTime feature I didn't notice?

I would REALLY love that, would make VOIP apps so much better. Apple should include an SIP support too.

Yes, you have to restore, then restore from backup or sync

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me out. I'm also getting the error 3002 for the first time! I have downloaded iTunes beta 3 and iOS 5 beta 3.
Does this mean, I have to do a full restore and loose everything? Once I do a full restore, then do a restore from backup and then install the new iOS 5 beta 3?

Thank you very much,
Jerry

Yes, you have to restore, unfortunately.

Backup with iTunes beta 2,
Install iTunes beta 3,
Restore to iOS5 beta 3,
Restore your backup,
Sync,
G2G.

Yes. Read the thread... ;)

Yes, that's also a point I forgot to make. (Plus I wasn't directing any of it toward you, just a lot of people that are into these betas that aren't devs) So many people in the dev forums aren't actual developers, they're just people that dished out $99 to get access to the betas. I get it that $99 gives them the right to the betas and all, but most of them don't know a single thing about DFU mode, what GSM means, or even how update to a beta. Just felt like venting my female emotions, because it's rather annoying. Very annoying. :)

Whilst I agree with you that many people in the Dev Program aren't actually developers, I don't see why a 'real' developer would need to know what DFU mode or GSM was! And even why someone able to work real magic with Obvective C or Xcode would necessarily be any wiser than anyone else as to how to upgrade an iOS Beta.

Is there somewhere within the dev center to download iTunes beta for Windows? I always see just the OSX version.

Go into the iCloud section of the Dev Center. Scroll down towards the bottom and iTunes for Win 32 and 64 bit are there.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. I did what you said and once I try and restore to iOS5 beta 3, its keeps giving me the error 3002. Sorry, I must be missing something. In iTunes beta 3, I connect my iPhone, then do a full restore back to factory settings? Then try and do a restore with iOS5 beta3? Then restore from backup?
Thanks, Jerry

3002 means you're trying to do option or shift + update (depending on if Mac or Windows), you need to do option or shift + restore. then once done, restore from backup

If you're getting error 3002 when alt- (or shift- or whatever) clicking the "Restore" button in iTunes, then picking the .ipsw file, I'm afraid I don't know what the issue is.

At no point should you click the "update" button.

Hi,

Thank you!! I was hitting the update button and I know better. It's working now.

Thanks, Jerry

OK this is ridiculous. There is no good reason why I shouldn't get the wifi syncing I've been demanding from day one. I even emailed Steve about it years ago. So draconian Apple wants me to out and buy a new iPhone to get their crappy new software? Screw them. I'll go buy an Android Galaxy S2 instead.

haha, i needed a good laugh today. :p

Can anyone help me out??

I tried updating i clicked (Alt + Click Restore) then i pointed it to the iOS 5 Beta 3 ipsw

But halfway or midway i'm getting an error!!

First time encountering this error, iTunes Error 14

PLEASE HELP!?!?
