Hong Kong and a few other places as well. What I am trying to figure out was the seond part of my question. Do you know the anser to this?
"Because I am with an official carrier Moviestar in Spain (on 3.0) BUT I have to unlock because I have an american iPhone does this mean when I jailbreak upgrade to 3.1 or 3.1.2 this WILL or WILL NOT work? Does what you mentioned affect this? Thank you

I have no idea. I've never unlocked an iPhone (I actually don't even own one, and don't plan to until tethering is fixed).

When was VPN broken with 3g. Are you talking about not working with Cisco VPN's ? Mine works fine. Every day.

Yes, with Cisco. Works fine on WiFi, but otherwise it will connect, but not allow me to render any ip addresses. Others have had the same problem, just wondering if anyone who had problems has tried yet.

The phones sold in New Zealand (as well as some other countries) are not locked. You can put a SIM from any carrier in there and it'll work for calling and browsing.

We have one official iPhone carrier, Vodafone. With an unmodified phone you can insert a SIM from alternative carriers XT or 2degrees and use the phone. With OS 3.0 it was possible to tether with any of these three carriers. With 3.1, tethering only functions on Vodafone.

Apple sells the phone as being compatible with all three carriers:

However, when you update to 3.1, you lose the ability to manually set the options required for tethering. I'm hoping that 3.1.2 restores this functionality.

I think it still doesn't work. Apple is requiring signed IPCC files for all carriers. Until dev team learns how to crack this, there will not be any tethering on unsupported networks - even if the network allows tethering.

Exactly! I encourage EVERYONE to rate THAT page 1 star, since it provides ZERO release notes!

Any idea what the carrier update includes? If you click on the "Learn More" link, it just takes you to a page that describes what a carrier update is, not what's changed in this version.

in order for wireless syncing to work, your home computer (Mac or PC) would need to be turned on to allow your media to sync over.

maybe one day Mobile Me would be worth $99/ year and would be able to hold my media In the Cloud to allow me to sync my music/podcast over from any Wi-Fi hotspot or cellular network (similar to contacts/calendar)

for now I'll just keep my plug-in, Load and Go Method.

Well maybe I'm different, but I haven't turned off my home mac in about a year ;)

I do agree, a mobileme solution would be sweet, but even syncing over wifi would be fine for me.

Would anybody care to comment on Safari or battery performance?

/fishing

Sure. I personally know at least five people who have iPhones, including my son and his girlfriend, and none of them has ever complained about battery issues. All are very happy with their iPhones and one told me just today that his next computer will be a Mac because he is so pleased with his iPhone experience.

And then you woke up from your dream? :)

One unpublished change I'm sure that made it in just for me :)

Code:
if(IsRunningOnAgbotsiPhone3G())
   MakeOSATinyBitSlowerSoHeWillUpgradeSoonerRatherThanLater();
if(UserLooksAtIphone3GWrong())
   FreezeSlownDownToACrawlOrSoundAlarmsThatWereTurnedOff();
else
   TryToLookInnocent();

There I fixed it for yah. :p

ipod controls returned?

I don't think that anyone else has mentioned this yet, but did Apple fix their braindead choice to disable the fast-access of the music app through the double-clicked home button?

I think they disabled that in 3.1 or 3.1.1 and if it's not fixed in 3.1.2 I guess there's no reason to update.

I just want Apple to put the play button back on the photos menu bar.

After updating I have the answer to my question: no play button. I have a presentation coming up next week, so I guess I'll abandon my iPhone for that task. Maybe a Pre or Android can pick up the slack that Apple left. If they'd allow a screen dump, they might win me over.

(picky, picky picky....)

It's still broken. Apple is aware of the issue (it's logged as a known bug).

There is the option in Settings; Double Click takes you to Home by default, but you have the option to change this to IPod if you like.

All these updates are getting a bit ridiculous. Can't they get things right the first time anymore!

Stickin' with 3.0.1.

It happened to me last night. I was wondering what that was. You gotta give it to apple they be on the ball.

If they were "on the ball", the bug never would have happened.

HUH!? Apple does not support their OWN products?!:eek:

If it was true, I wouldn't be surprised.

This is the way I see it: you get home and your iPhone connects to your wifi network. If you Mac is on (or once you turn you Mac on/wake it from sleep) it will connect and sync automatically. Afterwards, as long as it can still connect to the network and find your Mac, it will sync automatically at a set interval (1 hour, 5 hours, 1 day, etc.) or time of day. Not sure how much these "sync checks" would affect battery life (obviously the actual wifi data transfer would use a bit), probably no more than email checks or other services the iPhone already has.

that's very shortsighted. that's a feature that many competitors have been offering for a while. Blackberry was syncing the Pearl (my previous phone) via Blutooth, and now the Zune allows wireless syncing.

just because apple doesn't offer it as an option doesn't mean it isn't wanted or necessary. did you support Apple's decision to NOT include cut/copy/paste, because you agreed with them, that it wasn't NECESSARY? How about flash? how many websites feature flash objects that we can't see?

all i'm saying is that for the iPhone to truly be the BEST phone out there, we should have the features that the competitors offer, and then have better features.

If you have 25 gigs worth of data on your phone, it would take for ever to sync. No one really uses those other phones to store all of their media they way we do on our Iphone. It is not practical in real life. It may also be why owners of those other phones hate them because they don't seem to to function properly while its just that they put in a feature that is dumb, and that is what it's suppose to do. It sounds good. But my best friend has a palm and many of the features they brag about he has come to hate after just two months of ownership.

No, 6, you forgot me. :)

I haven't touched it since I got the iPhone. I'm wondering if it could even take a charge after sitting so long.
I doubt you'll fetch anything for it on eBay, and "gifting" it would be considered a crude gesture, for most.

Ironic. My iPhone 2G has had a couple of annoying issues since 3.x:

Sometimes the device will refuse to go into 'automatic sleep' if you leave it at screens such as the home screen. Which sucks up the battery nice and quickly!

Also since 3.x I get "20% of battery remaining" but never "10% of battery remaining" :confused:
