I had to run this update.
Randomly losing cell network connectivity caused me to miss many texts and emails.
I found myself having to reboot at least twice a day, if not more.

Hopefully that issue is resolved.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; sv-se) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Just upgraded my iPod Touch 2G. Have one iPod Touch 1G with 3.1.1 so I'll wait and see whether the update is worth it. Was about 260 MB to download. However, I've had minor problems with networks but now I believe it could be my router, although the iTouch 1G is loading faster than the 2G.

LOL for the JBers. This will keep the Dev Team busy. I'm sure glad I gave that up back on the 1st gen.

Have fun being stuck on Pandora then. :p

My jailbroken + unlocked 3GS is just about perfect as is, until a must-have app (I fear Tweetie 2.0) requires updating I don't see the need.

they still haven't fixed smart playlist syncing. they messed it up with 3.1.1 to where it sync really weird (as in out of order). the only way around it now is to turn of Live Updating but that gets annoying.

This is just an early report, but just reading through 10 pages off comments on my 3GS after upgrading, rebooting, and charging used 10% of the battery, so I don't think the 3.1 battery problem has been fixed, unfortunately... Ugh.

32GB black 3GS, Wifi, 5 bars of AT&T signal, push disabled, mail set to fetch once per hour, never jailbroken. Battery life was roughly comparable to my original iPhone before 3.1, now is about 4 times as bad.

oye, where's the ability to have an option to de-activate the landscape keyboard for mail and SMS?

It's been there since the landscape keyboard was introduced - it's called not turning your iPhone into landscape mode.

Seriously, what are you asking for? You want to hold the phone in landscape mode but have the portrait keyboard come up?

That would be my guess. It's difficult to use an iPhone in bed when the screen keeps rotating to be parallel to the floor instead of your body.

Because USB is 440 mb/s and 802.11n is only 54 mb/s.

I appreciate everyone that corrected me but all the arguing in the world doesn't change the fact that the iPhone transfers data 8 times faster over USB than wifi; tethered, ssh, sftp, syncing, ... you name it.

I live on a boat with an iPhone and a laptop. My iPhone is my ONLY internet connection. I've tethered it with the "carrier file hack", iPhoneModem, PDANet and MyWi. MyWi is the hands-down winner - plus it allows you to tether via wifi, bluetooth or USB. The USB tether blows the socks off of all the others. Speed tests are comparable to DSL.

I am on AT&T with a 16 GB 3G off the coast of Los Angeles, CA.

Repeated crashes when attempting to update to 3.1.2.... then tried to restore with 6 or 7 failures.

Finally, shut down the MBP and restarted everything, and then the restore went through.

Boo.

Successful update to 3.1.2 on 3GS and Original iPhone.

Please follow this method folks:

Placed iPhone in DFU - Clicked Restore (agreed to download 3.1.2) - 9 minutes - Restored from backup - 22 minutes for 22GB - Reset ALL Settings

Is there a Dev or someone knowledgeable that can explain why exactly the iphone refused to turn back on after sleeping??

That's just bugging the hell out of me! :p

Update for mine went great. I think I experienced the "won't wake up from sleep" more often than others. I've had it happen at least twice a day at times

My wifi speeds definetely got better with this update. Before I would only get 4-5Mb, now I'm pulling 14-16Mb.
