USB 2 is *480* not 440, and it's Mbps or Mb/s, not mb/s, which is often used as shorthand for megabits but is actually milibits per second, i.e. takes 1000 seconds to transfer 1 bit. lower case m is mili, upper case M is mega. Lower case b is bits. Upper case B is bytes. That said, it's wrongly used so often that it's debatable whether it's still 'wrong'.

I think I win the "Most Pedantic Response" trophy!

Ah, but the "Most Pedantic Response" is usually the only correct one...

*goes and shoots self*

Don't do that. We need all the internet pedants we can get...

Apple is sure on a power trip with these updates. They don't want anyone to keep their jailbreak iPhone.
iPhone users should connect their iPhones to iTunes and click the "Check for Update" button to obtain the new version. PFFFT NO THANKS, I'll wait for another jailbreak update like always.

APPLE you can't win this, trust me it's been proven that you can't make us from not using a jailbreak iPhone. With you're crappy pre-updates, you keep putting bugs in them purposely trying to trick us from having a jailbreak iPhone.

TO conclude this babbling issue, having a jailbreak iPhone makes every possible use out of the phone. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

Ergh. Updating didn't fix my data drop outs. F**k you iPhone, tomorrow you're getting yet another restore.

What is the deal? The one thing I could count on with 2.2.1, 3.0 and 3.0.1 was data, now I can still call and send texts but data drops every five minutes. Full bars, 3G, no data. Arrrgh!

Restore time, set up as new phone, if it still doesn't work I'm going up to George St and kicking up a fuss. A big fuss.

I updated last night... so far no issues and battery performance has improved. With 3.1 I would normally be down to 85% after 30min of us... only down to 98% now with 3.1.2!

However, I'm still getting the error in the photo below - happens when I don't dismiss a balance notification and the phone goes to sleep, when I wake it the home screen is black.

Er... Settings > General > Home, select "iPod" under "Double click the home button for", double click home button and you get the ipod app. Just tried it, works for me on 3.1.1.

Sorry, I see several people have attempted to answer my question, but perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I want the ipod controls to come up inside whatever app I'm in. I don't want the app to close and music to come up instead. That would be a waste of time.

All I want is to double-click the home button, the little blue box with the controls to float up, I press play, the blue box vanishes, and then I go back to whatever app I'm in.

If you can find some way to turn THAT on, post 3.1...then you'll have answered my question. ;)

I am sticking with 3.1 jailbreak for very good reasons!

This happens for me. You have to have opened the iPod app at least once since last reboot, then this works..

Omehow Memo > 35 mins doesn't compute!

I hope this fixes the voice memo bug. I can't seem to record more than approx 35mins long... which is useless.

I think you missed the part of the apps name called Memo. I'm not trying to defend Apples programming but let's face it Voice Memo satisfies most peoples need to record a Memo. Anyhow have you filled a bug report?

self centered and ignorant view of what updates are all about!

Andy, this really has nothing to do with the jailbreak world. Apple, unlike most cell phone makers, addresses defects in their software. If you spent more than a second digesting this thread you would realize that the issues corrected where very real.

Frankly I'm very happy with Apples update schedule as iPhone has come a very long way in a very short time. Is it perfect, certainly not but it is steadily improving. In this day and age that is a very good thing.

Besides if the Jailbreak community was that much of a problem for Apple they would be a lot more agressive in keeping the unit locked up.

I woke up this morning and had plenty of battery, clearly this is helping the battery. Each morning I would lose almost 1/2 of my battery.

A well known issue with all cell phones!

Interesting thoughts,
When I'm at work my iPhone Bat drains quick, it's a fact we get NO coverage inside the work buildings, whereas at home with it doing the same thing (just sat in my pocket) it seems to last all through the day.

This is a real issue with all cell phones and the cause is pretty simple. A cell phone needs to have a connection with a tower and obviously this requires periodic transmissions from the cell phone to keep the tower updated.

If the cell phone can't find a tower the first thing it does is to turn up transmit power in an attempt to find one. So the cell phone sits there rapidly trying to find a tower with it's radio running at full power. I once had a cell phone that chimed everytime it reestablished a connection very annoying on a drive through the moutains.

At work I can have highly variable battery lifetimes on my iPhone depending on where I'm at in the building for the day. Atleast iPhone doesn't chime everytime you walk by a big window.

I had the wake from sleep issue, amazingly the same day this update came out. It wouldn't do anything until I plugged it into the mains and then all it would do was take screengrabs.

Am I the only person who thinks this update might (most importantly) enable VOIP apps to now work over AT&T 3G??? In other words, now we should see an updated Skype app that works on 3G.

Don't keep your hopes up. The allowing of any data-functionality over a certain connection type is determined by the individual applications.

They didn't improve anything other then hide more bugs and call it an update.

No, it only works if something is already playing. If nothing's playing then it will close whatever app you're in and launch the iPod. If you lock it however then you can start music with the controls. I think the guy wants to be able to start music without going into the iPod app which I would like too.

After all, the controller has an "ipod" button so I could then jump straight to the iPod if I wanted to.

Like the user that posted below your comment, this also happens fine for me. Works in every application, and I'm on 3.1.2.

Here is a screenshot:

I think i'm noticing an improvement in battery life. By the end of my work day it's usually around 60-65% but today it is at 80%. AND I have left Location Services on and this is usually disabled.
