so you're first come you mention hoe you download the same app to multiple devices yet then complain you don't like it being done automatically. It's real hard to to tap that X and delete if you don't want it.

First world problems.

I don't know, because I control what goes on my portable devices when and how? What part of that is hard to comprehend?

I hope iTunes backups still back up the Apps, so you don't have to freakin re-download them all when doing a restore.

I could be wrong but I believe around a year ago iTunes stopped backing apps up anyway. Restores would only put back your data at which point you could unplug the lightning cable and go while apps would download from Apple.

99.9% sure you're right. All it did was restore the OS, placeholders for the apps with the settings, and the device restored them from the store.

That is true. But who said I was using a device that was on the current iOS?
I'n just saying this is Apple's way of closing a certain loophole for wanting to control what apps are run on devices.
You didn't, that's why I asked, I was curious as to what your use case. I don't know, I don't think we'll have the whole story until High Seirra is released.

What of switching stores? The iOS 11 App Store doesn't offer any means to switch accounts, seemingly locking it to the account specified in the system preferences. Presumably that's now (for now?) got to be accomplished in the iTunes Store.
But this has been like this for many years. And as long as System Preferences still has separate settings for iCloud and iTunes (ie, you can be logged into different accounts in iCloud and iTunes on iOS), things haven't changed.

Removing apps from iTunes is good. But removing it entirely not so. Should be moved to the AppStore app on the mac. Ringtones should be kept. Books should be moved to the books app on mac.
Or make a dedicated syncing app moving this whole function out of iTunes.

I don't see anything in this change that indicates it won't still do that.
We have no indication that backups are still going to consist of App data. From years of experience, the app still needed to be in the iTunes library to back up the data associated with it, even if the app isn't being installed from iTunes. I had this issue 6 months ago when I restored a backup.

I'd bet cash money that backups and restores don't function any differently than they did before this version.
