Just installed the update on my 24" iMac. All went well except the icons for my external FireWire HDD icons.

I can't figure out how to get them back to the standard Firewire icons short of putting custom icons in there. Anyone know what those icons are for? They almost look like SD cards or something?

Otherwise, all good!

ctrl + click (right click) on the icon.
open info
mark the icon on top
press delete
the original icon should appear

Bugger,

I can't close Pages (trial expired, and I need it - I will be buying 07 once it comes out), so I can't update as I'll have to restart.

Any way around this?

Hmmm.. let me think. BUY IWORK MAYBE? Jeash, that was tough.

man-0-man everybody and their dog must be d/l this thing. My speeds are in the toilet!!

Well that airport extreme update from the other week completely trashed my OS, so I must be a glutton for punishment since I'm now doing them all.

If you guys hear an atomic blast thats me blowing my top because I have to do an archive and reinstall because my MBP is now screwed 7 ways from Sunday.

I just bought the thing at xmas and so far major foul ups are.....

1) battery packed it in.

2) a piddly little 7MB update to the OS totally pooched the whole computer to the point that it wouldn't boot.

I'm in the same boat as you. My update was corrupt and gave me an error, and I've been stuck at the loading screen for a while. I'm currently trying to fix it - I'll let you know when I am done.

I ended up calling Apple-after going through several troubleshooting steps, the technican suggested I do a archive and install which I am doing as we speak-so hopefully after I do so all will be well

EDIT-after the reinstall-the update went through fine

This fixed the issues with volume on my MBP! When I used to hit mute (F3) it would show it was muted on the on screen display that pops up but on the menu bar in the top right it wouldn't...and more importantly the sound was still on. I would have to unmute and mute multiple times to get it to work. NOW IT IS FIXED! Thank you Apple.

Just restarted with my iMac G5 iSight, wireless mighty mouse seems a *lot* smoother... Genie effect and Exposé definitely smoother...

Not noticed any speaker differences yet, but I'm using the internal headphone jack out to a stereo for the moment...

I'll sort it out on my Macbook shortly...

No.

All Macs ( except PowerMacs ) come with built in isights, so there isn't a very big market for an iSight anymore.

Tell that to the people paying up to 200+ dollars on ebay for a used isight.

Plus Psychofreak brought up a good point about the macmini and the macpros. Not to mention all of the legacy macs out there.

Speaking of legacy macs, my ancient sawtooth came through great. Quartz is smoother, definitely. Eject button pause - check. I tried using my Logitech Quickcam Chat with iChat (I am using the macam driver) but no luck. So I guess you need to get a new camera.

I did have a heart attack when I started up mail and I was missing folders, but luckily they were just loading or something, because they appeared soon after. Stupid mail.app :D

update screwed around with the fonts for the Dictionary widget..."Thesaurus" is cut off...

Grrr... 9 revisions and 2 bugs STILL there

I reported the following 2 bugs against the initial release of 10.4, they are still present in 10.4.9!

This does not give me much hope for 10.5.

My Bugs

1. Mail.app shows BDT as the time zone for summer time in the UK, it should be BST as it shows in system preferences.
2. iChat.app and Mail.app do not auto hide when set as Login Items (in System Preferences) with the Hide box checked.

Now I doubt they will EVER be fixed.

(24" iMac) Damn! THe speakers really did get louder! I used to require like 6 volume bars and now I only use 3! Nice... It could just be my imagination, but minimizing now seems a bit smoother. The eject button also needs to be held down, which makes more sense. I dont really notice any of the other changes except louder speakers. Nothing to worry about...I would recommend everyone install this update.

iPhoto can't burn DVDs since update!

Ok. I was backing up my photos to DVD today via iPhoto. I burned one disc before I did the 10.4.8 update and it worked fine. After the 10.4.9 & iPhoto updates I go to burn a disc and it says the Burn Failed. So, I put in the disc again. Mac OS X saw it was a blank DVD so I tried again. Still! - it won't burn! So I try another blank DVD, and then another. I don't understand it. It's the same brand I used before the 10.4.9 update & iPhoto.

I'm guessing one of the updates (or both of them) changed something. Because now I can't burn my photos. I tried repairing permissions and even restarting. Does anybody else having the same problem? :(

update screwed around with the fonts for the Dictionary widget..."Thesaurus" is cut off...

Check your fontbook or whatever font manager you use. If you had deactivated any fonts, the upgrade may have reset your settings. This is what happened on my mac, so I had to fix that after the update.

Who're the brave souls who will install the update and tell me if there's a problem? ;)

Installed on my original (June '03) G5, no problems. Also installed on my 1st-gen MacBook with no issues. Now we test for a day or two before doing it to the spousal MacBook.... :D

Interesting enough, the install and reboot was much faster on the G5 than the MacBook. (Usually, they are not as far apart for update speed. I did all the downloading first, then the install. Not really a significant data point, just something I noticed.)

I'm glad Apple added USB support to iChat, it's about time.

I think once again were all getting a little excited...leopard is on its way but too me this update was realeased now in prep. of :apple:tv because of the iphoto, airport and other graphic updates which would also help explain :apple:tvs delay and the sudden charge to the credit cards i don know it makes more sence to me....i doubt lepord is coming out this month im guessing june but hopefully im wrong  :apple:
