Mine works, but only in iTunes and FrontRow. It used to work in VLC, EyeTV, Plex, and others but would launch iTunes every time you pressed play. Now it doesn't do anything at all in those programs. Maybe it is fixed on Apple's end and we have to wait for the VLC and others to update their software...

Oh God, I hope so. I didn't pay $19 to just use iTunes.

Well, I am just gonna take the first post because the rest of the complaints is pretty much subjective BS.

Cons.
No video as desktop function - DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS.
Quicktime options gone. - You don't need them, but if you want you can install a separate pref pane.
That damn beach ball. - NONE here.
Safari crashing at way too often. - Safari crashed only once in 2 months.
Damn beach ball again - NONE here.
Safari taking longer to load pages. - WRONG.
Beach ball again - NONE here.
Trash and the securely delete function. What exactly was wrong with 'empty trash' then disk utility erase function? - BS.
IDVD, taking 30 to 40% longer to burn disk. (this one really takes the !!!!) - DON'T USE IT.
Opening applications takes longer. Boring!!!!! - WRONG.
Beach ball yet again - NONE here.
Systems hangs a lot more. There's that flaming beach ball again - NONE here.

Net result? ZERO problems.

You ≠ everyone. We love Apple as well, but you might be loving Apple a little bit more than is considered healthy.

Youve never heard of a niggle?

niggle |ˈnɪg(ə)l|
verb [ intrans. ]
cause slight but persistent annoyance, discomfort, or anxiety : a suspicion niggled at the back of her mind | [as adj. ] ( niggling) niggling aches and pains.
• [ trans. ] find fault with (someone) in a petty way : colleagues say he loved to niggle and criticize people.
noun
a trifling complaint, dispute, or criticism.

There's a reason no one uses it, and that reason has nothing to do with its' definition.

It's default behavior in Snow Leopard. It pretty much railroads you to iTunes for the remote.

I use VLC and MPlayer OS X Extended. Sadly another reason to use Leopard for a little longer. You reminded me.

You can install Candelair (free) and Apple Remote work like a charm in Snow Leopard.

LONG POST BUT HOPEFULLY HELPFUL:

First something I personally don't like is when people post something like "hope it fixes..." or something like "yay". Why don't you try out the update and tell us what it fixes or what makes you go yay. Also beyond the first 2 accounts of how big the update is do we really need to hear more. Not like the size changes anything or determines if we are going to install it or not. Not trying to be mean to anyone or sound grumpy just stating my opinion.

Anyway hope this helps other users. Installed well (combo update). I didn't have many problems on 10.6.1 but most of them are still there with 10.6.2. Only weird thing was it reset my sound preferences in system preferences:

PROBLEMS I'M STILL HAVING
In icon view in Finder shift clicking does not select a range but acts like command clicking does.

In iCal when you perform the goto date and then type in the date and hit enter the enter command is not recorded but the mouse needs to click on the OK button.

Also entering a date in the goto date can jump around and give you a strange date if you make a typo along the way.

If you go to a date in ical that is a saturday in week view it will take you to the next day (sunday).

In iCal when using the inspector if you change the title of an event then change how often it repeats the title and/or the repeat don’t take and you have to redo your steps or it will lock up and ical needs a relaunch.

In iCal when you search for something then you change it’s repeating pattern you need to delete your search terms and research for it.

In Mail when I right click on an email address and copy address it not only copies the address but also the name associated with the address and the address is in < > which makes it hard to use unless I delete out the name and the brackets.

I have a list of first names in Pages. I make a PDF using the built in print to PDF feature then open the PDF and select the list (each one separated by a return) and copy and paste into a spreadsheet. The returns are missing and seems to pick a predetermined length per cell before it wraps to a cell lower. This was fine in 10.5 but not now in 10.6.

When opening a folder from a stack by Command Clicking on it the window size and location isn’t memorized from the last time but rather defaults to another window size and location.

In Preview Annotation Text when clicking for cursor (not dragging a box) it truncates the last letter or word unless manually resize the auto box created

In Safari when I have multiple tabs open and I click on a link that takes me to the iTunes store when I return to Safari it is not on the tab where the Safari link is but rather on the last opened tab of Safari or it will take me to a Tab saying the iTunes store is loading.

In the help menu in Safari I enter dashboard and then hover over the “Open in Dashboard...” and it sometimes selects Mail Contents of This Page instead of the correct menu item.

THINGS THAT WERE WRONG IN 10.6.1 BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO RECREATE YET (SO MAYBE FIXED):

After Software update performs and then says successful (or restart now option) going to a different space hides the popped up window and Apple-Tabbing back or clicking on Software Update in the dock does not revert back to the space with the window so you need to manually go through each space to find it to take action for Software Update to be happy. - Also with other apps when having a dialogue box up.

Screen sharing without a password try to connect first time says “where’s password” just clicking connect again makes it go through just fine. Takes 2 tries every time.

Sometimes the trash will look empty even though there are things in it and the option to empty it is grayed out from the dock icon but the finder menu will still work.

iDisk syncing was not going through.

Keyboard and mighty mouse get sluggish. They are the white apple bluetooth ones. Whichever one it is if you turn it off then back on it temporarily fixes the problem.

THINGS THAT 10.6.2 SEEMS TO HAVE FIXED FOR ME:

Mail is hanging on to my drafts more than it should. I use gmail with imap and often but not always when I compose and email message it will save a version of my message in drafts even though I didn’t save it and I have completed and sent the message. The complete message shows in my sent box but the other version of the message is saved in drafts.

Annotation text boxes when clicked move the page around a bunch.

YES I HAVE SUBMITTED MY PROBLEMS TO APPLE'S FEEDBACK PAGE AND SUGGEST YOU DO THE SAME.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/

*WARNING*

Upon reboot, a bluetooth error appears saying the "audio" portion is inoperable. Consequenty, Magic Mouse swipe does NOT work.

*WARNING*

Edit: Rebooting now.. Apparently, disconnecting my Magic Mouse doesn't fix the problem.

Exactly! I also use the remote with VLC or OS X Extended. Hopefully it's just a simple application fix on their end.

EDIT: Okay, so I finally got the update installed and it's working fine with VLC and OS X Extended. Only this time I don't need to open Quicktime anymore for it to NOT open up iTunes! YAY! :D Apple did fix this! Everything's working like it should!

You can install Candelair (free) and Apple Remote work like a charm in Snow Leopard.

Oh my God that is awesome. I can't tell you how long I've waited for something like this. I'm definitely going to keep my eye on this one (although it looks like it was just released). Thanks for that!

Michelle Gill from the Grow Discussion group post this quick fix for growl mail.
I am testing it now.

I have Growl Mail (via Growl 1.2) working fine on 10.6.2. You have to
add the following two UUID's to the Info.plist file in
GrowlMail.mailbundle/Contents/Info.plist:
2F0CF6F9-35BA-4812-9CB2-155C0FDB9B0F
0CB5F2A0-A173-4809-86E3-9317261F1745
Make sure the bundle is in ~/Library/Mail/Bundles (and not "Bundles
(Disabled)") and quit mail and restart. Seems to be working for me.
Cheers,
Michelle G

YES! They fixed front row!

It works on both my blackbook and my 2009 mini!

No more scrolling issue, and playback is no longer choppy!

Thanks apple!

I hate to say it, but Safari does seem snappier. And even embedded Flash stuff seems more responsive.
I think some of you people are just victims of your own wishful thinking. There isn't a damn thing in 6.2 to warrant any kind of speed boost or any reason to believe that Apple magically fixed Adobe's flash for them.

Safari seems slower to me, but thats probably just our ghettonet acting up:

I seem to also be having a lot of input lag. It wouldn't take a mouse click for a while and my typing is also delayed. It appears they turned off the spinning beach ball for the fix, instead of actually fixing the issue.

oddly enough, my yonah macbook pro has been fine in sl, it's my BRAND NEW MAC PRO which is buggy as all he**... if this doesn't help that then i'm considering getting outta macworld (after being in it all my life!) yes, sl has caused me that much wasted time and grief.

Why don't you just go back to 10.5.8 like the rest of us? It's rock stable and you can still use great add-ons like WindowShade (which I consider absolutely essential).
Obviously SL has introduced inconsistencies with a number of third party apps. Developers seem to struggle with 64-bit, and that's not likely to change overnight. I use so many extras that my SL was becoming impossible to work with, so going back to Leopard really made me happy again, and I'll stay there until 10.6.3 at least.
I use SL (brand new clean 10.6.2) on another volume and it works fine ... as long as I use it only for DiskWarrior!!

The update killed my computer!!!

The snow leopard 10.6.2 update killed my early 2008 iMac. After updating and restarting, the computer ran fine for about a minute, the the dock and menu bar disappeared and none of the desktop icons would work. I restarted with the same result. Now thank heavens for time machine, I put in the original install CD for snow leopard and am resetting to earlier today. Hopefully they will fix this soon!

it didnt fix my flickering macbook unibody.
still small and annoying flicker when using battery power.
it is the last time i buy an apple product.
A 400$ laptop has a better screen then this macbook.

Bye, went to ebay to sell this ****.........

Have you tried disabling the ambient light sensors that dim/brighten the screen when the lighting changes? Used to drive me nuts with my iPhone in certain places.

as for snow leopard in general, the only issues I've encountered were problems with flash (never had a decent flash experience on my core duo macbook including 10.4 and 10.5, I blame adobe for this mostly), safari 4 listing all items in my desktop at the top of top sites, and firefox being a resource hog (but I've heard 3.6 is a lot better).

I've always been happy with the way my mac runs, especially with the way I've abused it (iCal, 2 instances of mail, and a windows xp virtual machine run at start up and still very few problems).
