450mb on my 13" MBP....

.....And, it broke my backlit keyboard.

Seriosuly. Whenever I try to turn on the backlight, I just get the "no can do" rather than a brightness level.

This might be a stupid question, but are you in a bright room. I have never been able to turn on the keyboard backlight unless I was in a sufficiently dim room. If the light is on in my office, I encounter the same thing you describe, but that's normal.

Holy ****, I hope that with 10.6.3, step by step, all drivers will become 64 bit, on 10.6.2 Apple GMA950 driver was 64 bit ready (version 1.6.6) and only Atheros was 32 bits.

On 10.6.3, GMA950 is 32 bit ready ... and of course Atheros ...

Apple GMA950 (version 1.6.10).

All of this on black macbook c2d 2.0Ghz Late 2006. (Macbook 2,1).

Regards.

Combo failed

Are you seeing this same message even when running the combo update downloaded from Apple's site?

Yes I tried the normal update and the combo and get this screen...

Nah, I'm a computer nerd....I live in a dungeon, duh.

Seriously though: it's not bright at all in here. I'll revert to my time machine back-up then try again, will post back.

*Edit*

Already tried the thumb over the sensor trick BTW, it's borked. Reverting to 10.6.2 now....

More information about Data Collection feature

Here's a writeup of the new Data Collection feature.

Key points:
- it is opt in
- can be configured in Console utility
- Apple is collecting information about your OS version, Apple and third-party application versions, and hardware

Yeah keep us posted. I just dropped the lights in my office and the keyboard backlight came right on automatically. Not sure if that helps, but I suppose we'll see what happens with your restore.

UPDATE TIME for the BEST OS on Earth!!! Downloading it as I type this!

Thank you, Apple!!!

MS IS DEAD. AND SO IS DELL.

p.s.: By the way, 10.6.2 has been ABSOLUTELY flawless to me; nothing to complain.

I'm glad you have no problems with Snow Leopard. I can't say the same, so I think that whether it's the best OS in the world is rather subjective. I think Leopard is still the best OS there is. Snow Leopard needs to be polished a LOT (we'll see whether this update provides that level of polish or not). Leopard just got very mature and stable when Apple decided that everyone should stop using it just when it got good... Not going into details but I feel that SL was rushed just like Vista.

Installed the Combo update. But on my Mac, booting into a 64-Bit operating system kernel still is the domain of Windows and Linux. That machine still has a couple of months of Apple Care left, which means it's not even three years old, but Apple already does not fully support it anymore. A 64-Bit workstation that does not even run on a 64-Bit kernel of its very own operating system. Now that would be good for a laugh if it wasn't so sad.

Steve Jobs can no longer sell me any "awesome, magical, amazing" new toys.

Maybe try a combo update next time and see if that helps. good luck.

Not sure if anyone has noticed it but there seem to be some significant OpenGL performance increases.

My MBP has gone from:
87.19 - 110.6 frames/sec on 10.6.2
to
156.74 - 198/84 frames/sec on 10.6.3

My Mac Mini has gone from:
93.30 - 118.35 frames/sec on 10.6.2
to
169.22 - 214.66 frames/sec on 10.6.3
Awesome, which game/3D app is that?

Update went fine.

One thing, though: the Colour profile for OS X was reset. I can't remember what I had it on - ColorMatch or Generic RGB or Adobe RGB 1998.

Which profile is best (or intended) for Snow Leopard?

Same thing happened to me on all 4 machines I updated.

I tend to stick with the sRGB color profile since I do a lot of web work.

Would you like to enlighten us what generation is your Mac Pro?

I think the Mac Pro you have only has a 32bit EFI ROM. So Apple is actually unable to give you 64-bit drivers period. Not without an EFI upgrade, but that could break your machine completely (like any BIOS upgrade)

Time Machine has hung twice for me in the middle of the backups since upgrading to 10.6.3. Repair Disk, repair permissions didn't fix the issue.

If you look back at threads from past point updates, this almost always happens after a 10.x.x upgrade. You'll need to wait a while, as the first backup after an update like this usually takes some time.

I tried your advice and was able to run disk utility. I logged in from safe mode and ran it from there. I didn't boot it from the cd. I went under first aid and did the verify disk and later said everything was fine. Only when I did permissions did it display something as wrong so I corrected but nothing. I restarted and same problem.

If you have a Firewire port of your machine and have access to another machine running SL.....you can boot yours into Target Disk Mode and re-apply the Combo update.

I really wish Apple would come up with a way to burn the Combo to a disk so it could be installed via Safe Mode for times like yours.

Yay

thank you apple for fixing my printing issues... I have had to export everything from CS3 to a post script file if I wanted to use a special paper. this actually just made my day a little bit better.:)

Wow, a lot of people seem to be having issues with this update, everything for me works so far, I haven't experienced any performance improvement though..

You'll notice this with every single update. I've been using an iMac since 2001 and I've never had an issue created through a software update.

Some of the problems that people report encountering are, a little far fetched to put it mildly.

I was going to report that this update tilted my viewing screen 37 degrees to the left and caused my iMac to randomly stream short bursts of obscenities tourette syndrome style.

But, remembering how many times this latest update when back and forth between Apple and developers, it doesn't seem like there should be an extensive list of problems.

After the update my magic mouse doesn't work anymore. Under bluetooth pref it says the mouse is connected, but the pointer doesn't move.
