Yes. It’s because they are on a schedule. And they’re on a schedule because it’s tied to partner operating system iOS. And that’s on a schedule because they insist on bringing out a new iPhone every September.
Which is proving to be a **** strategy too (see sinking sales year over year). If you don't have something new to release, why bother? The iPhone 11 Pro is an insult to anyone with an XS/Max. It has absolutely nothing new besides a beyond **** low quality wide angle camera (non stabilised, not autofocus, not deep fusion enabled etc etc) and it's a little better lasting on battery. Okay nice. Not $1000+++ nice.

I use alot of Native Instrument & Spitfire Audio stuff, both companies don’t recommend to do an update to Catalina.

So far I've been able to run NI and Spitfire apps relatively problem free, touch wood. I had the most problems with Eventide and Klanghelm plugins. Klanghelm I don't mind so much because it's just one guy and he's awesome. But Eventide should have been ready. FabFilter made everybody else look bad (not for the first time), because they were ready mid-September.

But I'm surviving so far. My big regret is not realising Ableton Live 9 wasn't supported anymore, because I'd been holding off upgrading it.

I tried to update my MBP yesterday... it got stuck in an "update failed" loop which it claimed because I was short on disk space (even though I had approx 60gb free i thought). Restarting the computer didn't bring me back to Mojave and instead back into the failing loop of updating to Catalina. In the end I had to rollback using time machine and lost a couple of days work. I'll wait until there's a bit more stability before attempting it again.

Ugh. "This is a hot mess." Worst...update...ever." "OMG everything is broken and it's so buggy."

Are you all using the same software as me? Or this one of those things like, "Starbucks coffee tastes burned to me," where people have no idea what it means but just find it fashionable to say?

You're one of the lucky few who has no problems with it, but loves to come and harp on the rest that do

I just did the update and now I have a second folder with the relocated items. Will this now be the case with every new update so that I end up with like 5 of these folders in a few more updates 😆 The first folder is in English and the second one in German (my system language).

Anyone got a link to the standalone update usually available from Apple Support, not posted there yet.
Usually someone posts the link before it appears on the Downloads page.

I went from an Xs to 11 Pro. I'm very happy with my upgrade. The battery life increase is thanks to the A13 chip is a huge bonus.

You can call Bèta testers idiots, but they are the frontline of solving bugs & problems before you and others can install an upgrade and unknowingly be abused as a bèta tester... Not better testers than the people in the working-field.

Please, put your hands together for the public bèta testers, because they make our software useable!

Was on the beta
out of the beta
this update doesn't show.

I guess that's because this is a supplemental update and nothing will show until a 'proper' update comes out.
As has been mentioned, you need to download and install the version from the app store to get back on to the normal update cycle.

iOS 13 is garbage and so is MacOS 10.15... We are already at 13.1.2 at iOS and it's still buggy. I have to restart my iPhone for notifications to reset. I fell for Catalina because screen time and Arcade for my kids is nice... but wow... I am getting punished for that choice.

Apple may just as well have backed up a garbage truck and dumped it on my lawn... with Tim Cook smirking at me in the side view mirror as he drives away.

If you haven't "upgraded" to Catalina, wait on it. I can't recall Apple's releases being this bad since, well, not ever.
And Tim will continue to smirk at you and others and bring you another failed updated...which you will update.

Already releasing a supplemental update is ridiculous. They should never have shipped macOS Bètalina without these fixes. I mean, a bug that lets the installation hang?! That’s a bug you definitely want to get fixed in the last beta before you ship the final product to your customers who RELY on their iMac’s and MacBooks for work.

Get a Mac. It just works*
(*after supplemental updates)
If you RELY on your computers for work you shouldn't be upgrading to the latest OS straight away regardless of the platform. Best IT quote I ever heard was 'Only Bleeding Fools live on the Bleeding Edge'

How long is it going to take them to get this right?

It's not like they've got 100 chimps typing on PowerBooks in the basement of 1 Infinite Loop. It's one of the largest corporations in the world.

And they can't put this business to bed.

Hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come...

Apple cares less about their software and more about making TV shows.
