How much disk space do I need to install High Sierra?
This Apple support document claims a 8.8 GB requirement for macOS High Sierra.

Sure, just download the installer from the Mac App Store, then quit out of the installation process. The installer file is still in the Applications folder.

Just follow the instructions for building a bootable USB installation drive, the instructions have been basically the same for years. Just search for "macOS High Sierra bootable USB." There's at least one article on doing this for the High Sierra beta and I'm sure a number of articles will be published in the next 24 hours on how to do this with the official released software.

Disclaimer: I've been doing this for years.

I'm getting an odd warning saying a firmware update is required. I'm worried this will not be compatible with my Mac Pro 4,1 that's been flashed to 5,1. Hmm.
Not odd. This is the firmware update that allows the older Mac Pros to boot from APFS disks. It will work on Mac Pro 4,1s that have been flashed to 5,1. There are extensive threads on this here on the forum.

anyone else with a cMP (5,1) having trouble getting it to install? Firmware update doesn't seem to be taking...

Aside from the Photos editing improvements and security additions, any merit to installing this on a 2011 MBP running an HDD? Already have the most recent release of Safari, chilling on Sierra.

Contrary to MacRumors post -- you CAN format and install on a boot drive. I'm doing it -- I have an external boot HDD (a LaCie 2TB Thunderbolt 2 drive). I formatted a 500 GB partition to APFS using High Sierra's Disk Utility, and then installed High Sierra. Works great. (Note this is on a 2015 Retina 27" iMac with 16GB ram)

Has anybody tried it on a MacPro Quad-Core 3,7 32 GB (late 2010)? Speed issues?
Thanks so much for your reply.

Mine should be downloaded in a snappish “10 days and 4 hours” per the update info., nope, forget that, it’s now 11 days!

Anyone with this configuration and has updated to High Sierra, please let me know how the update went.

Configuration: Mac Mini 2012 with external SSD as startup drive.

Close configuration. I have a 2011 iMac with thunderbolt SSD. No issues with the update, automatically converted my external SSD boot drive to APFS. One noticeable thing is the loss of the boot chime, but since the new 2017 computers don't have it, I think the change was intentional on apple's part.

Do you use Apple RAM's or 3rd party? When I was updating from El Capitan to Sierra, 3rd party RAMs were causing freezing issues so had to swap with Apple RAMs to upgrade and then swapped the RAMs with the 3rd party again.

I’m passing this. I learn my lesson week ago with iOS 11. Maybe i will try it after 3 months or something.

Couldn't agree more. But Apple has always had issues with their .0 OS releases. Always. Anyone who's been around for awhile will recommend waiting that long as general, best practice. This advice is even more important now that 10.13 changes the file system. (I might even follow it this time!)

I worked as lead tech at an independent Apple repair shop when El Capitan came out, and I didn't let anyone install 10.11 as a default OS on customer machines until 10.11.3.

Hi,

Before updating, can someone please please let me know if you can still get rid of iTunes 12.7, and put in 12.6.2 instead?

Thanks!
