Installing it on my Mid 2012 MBP to see what apps work and fail before I upgrade my desktop.
Also unplugged the network just in case it tries to update iTunes to 12.7.
Looks like it's flashing my MBP Mid 2012, weird progress screen after several reboots.
Wow, that's like my 4th reboot while installing.
Weird, it went from "45 minutes remaining" to "Installation is in progress. Calculating time remaining"
Whew, now it shows time remaining of 44 minutes. It was stuck there for a while, probably upgrading the recovery partition?
Yikes! Still at 44 minutes after 15 minutes.
Finally moved to 43 minutes. Who writes these calculations scripts?
After 10 minutes it says 41, no 40 minutes remaining. I think it's makeing progress, 39 now.
Down to 31 minutes...
23 minutes, light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm wondering what was included in the flash update?
This is worse than delivering a baby. 17 minutes.
Another reboot, but no more progress time, just the bar.
Login screen, here goes...
iTunes remained on 12.6.2.20 after upgrade.
Was able to use the AppStore!
Photoshop CS3 needs java again. Java installed, having trouble with File:Open. Double click in finder worked. After reboot, Photoshop CS3 still buggy, maybe has something to do with Java. Workable for now, I'm sure other apps will have this problem until they fix it.
Office 2008, Toast 10 (as good as before), Spotify, Avast, Caffeine, GeekTool, iDVD, iStat, MyLivingDesktop 4.9.1, Textwrangler, VueScan, Quicktime Player 7 all working.
Pretty much identical as Sierra.
Reboots are remarkably slow in HS. :( Screen flashes black like in the old days of Mac Pro 1,1 booting to El Capitain when booting.

Do you use Apple RAM's or 3rd party? When I was updating from El Capitan to Sierra, 3rd party RAMs were causing freezing issues so had to swap with Apple RAMs to upgrade and then swapped the RAMs with the 3rd party again.

Odd. As long as the RAM meets specs for that particular model, why would such problems occur? (Not doubting you; just curious.)

never usually download these new softwares until the second or third update. on sierra for my mbp pro and el capitan for my 09 iMac, ill update the mbp when the second or third update is released

No idea why TBH. I haven't had any freezing issues or whatsoever when I was using the system. Apple system check wasn't giving any error message as well.

Just finished a clean install of High Sierra on my MBP 15 2016 TB - this is going to be the new snow leopard!

No more UI lag when only using intel HD graphics due to metal 2. Love it so far

Hello, how can I perform an clean instal? Do I have to download High Sierra (where?). Thanks for the help.

Can't wait to see all posts about how it screwed up their systems.
Mine went smooth as silk, 36:24 minutes from hitting the install button to the desktop and that includes the time to format my HD to SPFS. This is on the Macpro listed below.. All the programs I normally use still work without a hitch.
Sorry to bust your bubble.

Mine should be downloaded in a snappish “10 days and 4 hours” per the update info., nope, forget that, it’s now 11 days!

Keep calm. You don't have to sit in front and stare at your screen for 11 days. The installer will download fine without you. Just make sure your Mac stays awake :)

Very grateful to be in Singapore. Downloaded in 2 mins.

Can you guarantee the rogue code will not be "accidentally" present in an innocent app you downloaded at a given point of time?
True, there have been few instances where websites of popular apps got hacked and unknowingly distributed malware (e.g., Handbrake, Transmission). And many folks still click on email attachments or popup page disguised as software updater.

So while the risk exists, but the article made it seem like macOS High Sierra is wide open to malware attack.

Not odd. This is the firmware update that allows the older Mac Pros to boot from APFS disks. It will work on Mac Pro 4,1s that have been flashed to 5,1. There are extensive threads on this here on the forum.
Has anybody tried it on a MacPro Quad-Core 3,7 32 GB (late 2010)? Speed issues?
Thanks so much for your reply.
cant get it to install on my 5,1... firmware update doesn't seem to be sticking and activating the actual install

Imho the best macOS release ever: Metal 2, eGPU, APFS. My tech porn dreams come true.

Do you have a non-flashed 3rd party graphics card in the computer? The firmware update will not install without an EFI compatible graphics card in the computer.

Close configuration. I have a 2011 iMac with thunderbolt SSD. No issues with the update, automatically converted my external SSD boot drive to APFS. One noticeable thing is the loss of the boot chime, but since the new 2017 computers don't have it, I think the change was intentional on apple's part.

good to hear :)
