Thank you,thank you,thank you!!!

FINALLY I have been checking the site every flippin day! Lets hope it was worth the wait here I go!:D

Hmm this would be a lot more interesting if it didn't require a $100/year subscription to use. Also if it created an actual file system on the phone that could be shared between apps..that would be useful.

If you're paying $100/year then you have not been checking around!

The only place to buy MobileMe is from Apple.

Dont get scamed by getting from a 3rd party or used???????

Used....that cracks me up.

By the way there is no sw to install just d/l a Windows control panel.

WRONG!
Amazon.com is completely reputable AND cheaper.

Thank you, Apple for the $30 price cut if I buy a Mac, but that is hardly an incentive for those of us who already own one. The few bells and whistles added to membership packages haven't exactly awestruck me into renewing for another year at $100 - sorry. :(

Just get it from J&R for 53 bucks :)

This sounds very fine and dandy for .mac subscribers, but I like value for money so I went for my own webhosting and domain.
But how about letting us store our own files on these devices yet, like you can with the other iPods?
Check out Documents To Go (in the App Store) for Editing/Transfer
Of File Aid for Viewing/Transfer

There are apps that let you do this already.

I've not signed up for the MobileMe service because of it's price and the feature set. I have my own domains and webservers also.....BUT, this doesn't give me 3 things I want. Push email, the ability to wipe the iPhones on my AT&T account if they get lost/stolen (I have 3, 2 for business use), and syncing the calendar across multiple devices.

With the finding of MobileMe's pricing to be a bit better through 3rd parties (thanks to this thread), the service is looking to be a better option for the price.

FWIW.

But you're not buying from Amazon, it's a 3rd party selling through Amazon.

It always makes me nervous. With a book, that's fine, I'll shop 3rd parties for that. If I don't get the book, I complain and that's very easy to understand: No book.

But if I buy a code from some company and I get a code but it doesn't work, is Amazon going to do something about that? Is Apple? What do you do?

If you don't like the 3rd parties, make sure it says "Ships and Sold from Amazon.com." That is them and them only.

People we are takling about paying 99.00 or 50.00 peryear.

What's 40.00??????

Get it from Apple and pay the extra 40.00 so you can sleep at night.

Uh, no.

Can it be auto renewed every year for that price?
Renew, yes; auto-renew at that price, no.

You just buy a new copy and punch in that serial number to renew. If you let it auto-renew with the credit card on file, you'll be paying full price. To make this work, you'll have to be proactive, and not procrastinate until the last minute. FYI.

Here is the single version for $50:

As someone else in this thread posted (at least before the mods merged threads), J&R has the current version for US$53 including shipping: http://www.jr.com/apple/pe/APP_MB824Z_SL_A/

Can't post a review in iTunes so here it is

The application appears as iDisk on the iPhone or iPod Touch. In the store it is called MobileMe iDisk and can be found here.

I have downloaded the application and am presently running version 1.0 (96). I have been using Air Sharing since it was released but I use iDisk quite often to back up documents, have access to Office and iWork documents on the go, share files privately and use the public folder when posting items to forums. That being said here is my immediate reaction to Apple's new application. I have been waiting for this with baited breath.

MobileMe iDisk continues the legacy of keeping things simple yet elegant. The application stores recently viewed files (up to 200 MB collectively) locally on the iPhone/iPod Touch except for audio and visual files which are streamed. If you have a slow connection you will have issues with the streaming just like any other audio/visual source (don't blame Apple). Layout of files is similar to the Finder in your favorite OS X. You do have some options, as in the Finder, to show extensions and system folders. I have not discovered where the files are kept locally. Knowing should make it easier to delete local files, especially if they contain confidential information.

Files and folders take just a moment to load the first time but once they have been opened they are very quick to browse. The "Recents" button on the bottom of the window to recall, well, recently viewed items is especially useful until a time comes that multiple files can be held open at one time.

The language under the "Shared Files" icon is confusing as it implies that any file can be shared. An icon appears to the right of the file name to show that it can be shared. I presently am able to share files in my public folder and documents folder. Sharing constitutes emailing a link to the file.

The "Public Folders" icon at the bottom of the screen is for your subscriptions or access to other members public folders, not your own.

There is no access to the Backup, Site, Software or Web folders
Animated GIFs do not work.
Interactive QuickTime games/video do not work.
You do not have direct access to MobileMe features beyond folders (same as in the Finder).
Documents are viewed as standard pages, not as a single long page (fine by me).
The 3.0 copy feature works but live editing does not seem to be an option.
No option to transfer files from folder to folder, folder to computer, or iPhone/iPod Touch to computer (this comes in handy when giving a lecture and the file needs to be transfered to the local computer—sometimes PCs just don't understand how simple things could be).

MobileMe iDisk has few preferences (again, fine by me) so the interface is clean and uncluttered. I do think the option to clean out the cache or downloaded files either for space, irregular behavior, or security should be available.

Overall, I like it. With an update or two it will achieve five star status.

I like iDisk except for two things:

• It's still, after all these years, really slow (especially when syncing).

• You can password-protect the whole disk, but you can't individually password-protect folders or subfolders.

All this is it worth it, get it cheaper stuff is funny. And I'm sure those that don't see value or buy it elsewhere for less will have their comments for me.

But my $.02.

I have had .Mac/MobileMe since I upgraded my G4 tower to OS X with it's first release back in 2000 or 2001 and it was FREE at the time and called iTools. Back then it was email, and I can't even remember if there were any other services. When they converted to a paid subscription, I said $8 a month, whatever, it is my primary email, I get a lot of use of Apple products, and since then the services have slowly built over time. The MobileMe transition was actually awful, but Apple gave me a 9 month extension for my issues and I was happy. I pay the renewal automatically every year and I don't shop around. But let me ask you this.

How many of you go to Starbucks or wherever and pay $5 or more for coffee of all things every day. And likewise do you go to a bar and drink, or buy your beer and liquor and party at home which is more economical. Do you eat out much or cook at home. All these things are choices, habits, matters of convenience. One person's sense of value for one thing, whether it be MobileMe, coffee, booze, food, entertainment, etc. doesn't equate to another person's.

So be it.

Incorrect!
I bought mine straight from Amazon.
Check it and see before posting non-truths.
