These girls don't like to face the truth. I can understand the logic of choosing one product over another, but what do you people get out of lying to yourself and convincing yourself that Apple is more profitable and makes more money than Microsoft? It's pretty sad and pathetic.

you're talking about BRlawyer aren't you? that kid needs some serious help.

Rothchild, once more: this is an Apple forum talking about a record-breaking quarter and populated by Apple fans. Trolling and blind criticism are not warranted here.

Wow. Did you work for the Goebbels Ministry of Propaganda in a previous life???

I take it all back. God bless Apple. God bless St. Steve! Please take my money. I don't care what you foist on us. I love you!!!!!!

Is that better?

However, quarterly iPhone sales are all over the place depending on new releases etc. Quite unlike iPod and Mac sales which are rather stable (on a very nice upward curve). iPhone sales would be a nightmare for anyone studying statistics :D

Hehe, yes that's true. ;)

If you have the recent release of the iMac, then no it doesn't work perfectly. You may be satisfied, but you over paid a great deal for a machine with some serious defects in it.

Every Apple machine produced today currently has ridiculous problems that no one would stand for on the PC side, but for some reason we Apple users do.

What part of NO PROBLEMS is not clear to you? Sorry if you're having problems with all three of your Macs :)confused:). Take them in and get them fixed under the warranty. What ridiculous problems, by the way? Please be specific. I've bought Macs for many former PC users (home and work) without one ridiculous problem--no networking issues, no overheating, no freezes, no printing issues, no lost files, run any software, no viruses, no malware, no nuthin.

Of course. A world without criticism is always a better world...it means everybody's happy. :D

And nope, Goebbels is long dead; the best propaganda model now is Bernanke.

Hahaha, you guys are so funny with your overreactions...I'd better have some more kool-aid now :D

You seem drunk to me. ;)

If you take what you're saying seriously, you'd have to leave this forum within a second.

I worry for the user base. Who is going to turn the lights off when it's over?

Who knows? The argument of whether to turn off the lights the "simplest" way (by using the wall-switch) vs. turning off the lights the "coolest" way (via an iPhone/iPod touch/Jesus Tablet app) could infinitely delay the final exodus.

It's a no win scenario sadly. If you escalate to being serious you get laughed off as a joke or insulted. Being serious doesn't get you anywhere.

My concern is the quality of the userbase.

Channel inventory counts as "shipped" and all Apple SEC financial numbers are "shipped" numbers.

This isn't a "consignment shop" --- the carriers pay Apple the full amount for all the iphones that they received. Whether the carriers can sell the iphones, that's the carriers' problem.

I think you should apply to become Apple's new CFO. I'm sure you could increase Apple's sales a lot by doing a bit of channel stuffing.

True...but Apple's not a computer company...remember Apple changed its name years ago.

I'm glad Apple's having extremely high success...but it's an Electronics company these days and should be compared to the likes of Sony (for example). Mac sales are doing well but likely most of Apple's profits come from iTunes, iPod, iPhone sales...while also including Macs in the equation.

MS really only sells software (not computers) and the Xbox...so MS really is, and always has been, a software company.

-Eric

Software has higher margin than hardware.

Plus most of the MS R&D involves ripping other companies off.

God damn I really can't stand people like you. Completely narcissistic people like you with this absurd sense of entitlement and this ridiculous self-important mindset that your personal experiences and opinions are factual for the entire population.

Go troll somewhere else, for you to make such a douchey statement that "Every Apple machine produced today has ridiculous problems," you really need to get over yourself and step off your high horse. I'm sure theres some products over at Dell or Microsofts Xbox 360 that you can go strap your cape on for and parade against for their "ridiculous problems."

Somebody pass the popcorn please. Thanks. Apple had a great quarter. Get over it if you don't like it.

Its astounding really. The more the economy goes into the *******, the better Apple's sales.

There are two factors.

1. Gobal deployment of products. Apple is selling products into new markets. That will bring growth even though the individual markets are doing worse business. The same reason why when evaluating retail stores you want to ask what the same store year over year sales are. A common approach to growth overstatement is to hide bad year over year same store sales by opening a bunch of new ones in new markets.

2. They are back in the pack. In PC sales they are only 3-7% of the market. It is kind of hard to go down when you are that small (and not doing stupid things). what is happening in PC marketplace is market consolidation. More and more "no name" vendors are losing share to folks with a "name". It has nothing, it has a "name".

So no it is not "shocking" to see this growth.

Nor is it shocking that the profit margin goes up when a higher than usual amount of software is sold that quarter than hardware. 40% is around where software companies usually hang out as far as margins go ( if not doing stupid things).

Anyone with a high school reading skill can read the SEC filings and read the fine print of their definition of "shipped" units.

I could be wrong but last year Microsoft had a quarterly net-income of $3.05 billion, it's not yet consistently so for every quarter but the writing is on the wall. Microsoft is every year less profitable and heavily relying on 2 major cashcows, the tipping point can't be that far off.

MSFT

4/08 15.837B 4.297B
1/09 15.961b 4.373B
2/09 16.629B 4.174B
3/09 13.648B 2.977B
4/09 13.099B 3.045B
1/10 12.920B 3.574B

As you can see, these numbers have taken a massive hit during the recession, they were more like 4-5B before. That also means they're inevitably going to bounce back, simply because they still have that cozy, convenient thing called monopoly in both OS and office software markets.

Apple: by far not the most profitable tech company.
Don't forget, we're talking about their Xmas quarter here. Their next quarter will be much, much smaller in revenue and profit.

I think it's too late to worry. :(
I know it is. I've been watching it go downhill for years to be honest. I suspect Apple would be more content having drones with open wallets though. It brings the 1984 ad to mind.

Thinking different or thinking need not apply.
