I think Apple is underestimating how great it would be for them to release a 6+ sized version of these.

Kids, and people (that are already entrenched in Apple's ecosystem) looking for a (really) small tablet would love it.

Pricing is key, though.

Here is a GIF comparing the current and potential colors:

I'm digging the blue, but nothing quite compares to the colors of the iPod nano chromatic.

It's interesting how the old ones look more like the Apple Watch Sport. Even the old pink is the same kind of light red, but the new pink is a more traditional pink. Maybe these new colors will be released the same time with new sport bands, I hope.

why do people still bother ipod when we having iphone - everything iphone can do that ipod do
I need a Wi-Fi camera for work and do not want to use my personal phone. That's why I'll be buying one (but only if it includes upgraded camera too) if the rumors are true.

What about reducing the NANO as thin and maybe the same format as a credit card. Include the;touchID/wifi/NFC/Apple Pay/Watch support, features..make it a virtual wallet and an ipod with Nike+ and FM radio and help sell more watches and push apple pay

ipod only for music

no thanks - i got iphone 6 already

6 billion people in earth
3 billion already has iphone

ipod / 5c already exist -

I can't wait. While I own an iPhone, I have a unique use-case for the iPod touch, so I'm hoping for a significant upgrade to weather another two year upgrade cycle.

You wrote that twice. I'm only replying once. :)

I think features like this are more appropriate for the Touch. The nano is really focused on being a media player, not an app environment. I think adding all these features to the nano would significantly raise the price and would make it so close to the Touch that thee wouldn't be much to differentiate the two products.

As for thin, I think Apple's been on a "thin as possible" kick for a long time. If they can make it credit-card size with all the features customers expect, and durable enough, I'm sure they will.

It amazes me how people don't understand why iPod touches are still relevant. I'm old enough now (20) to buy myself an iPhone, but the costs outweighs the benefits for me. I'm almost always within wifi range, and when I go someplace new, I immediately check if they have free wifi where I am. Heck, I'm using free wifi at a hospital waiting room right now (don't worry, everything is ok. ;)). It doesn't make sense for me to get a data plan with an expensive phone ($600+) to use the data once or twice a month.

Either way, whether people get it or not, I've been waiting for a new iPod touch since about 2012, since I'm still using my 4th gen with its broken lock button on iOS 6. I didn't get the 5th gen when it came out because my iPod was still supported with iOS updates at the time. Now, it doesn't make sense to buy a 5th gen because it's outdated at this point, so I'm really hoping the rumors are true.

Give me a 64-bit A chip (I'd prefer an A8 so they don't have to update it again this fall/next year right away?), a better camera, an M motion chip, and preferably a larger screen and Apple Pay support and I'll buy one right away.

Im pretty sure they made syncing apple music playlists to these ipods super easy. Imagine just picking in itunes what you want on the ipod shuffle, download and sync and then go out for a run.

Actually, you cannot sync Apple Music to an iPod at all. You can download it to an iPod Touch over wifi, but you can't sync Apple Music to it from iTunes. And you can't sync Apple Music to an iPod nano or shuffle or other iPod at all.

This is why I will let Apple Music lapse in 2 1/2 months.

My iPhone 5c is for work.

My iPod Touch is for music and some internet browsing at home when the iPad is already used by another family member. I'll buy a new iPod Touch as soon as it is on the market to replace my aging one.

I would love a new iPod Touch. Not holding my breath for one that is worthwhile. Cook will never get it through his thick skull that some of us just don't want an iPhone. If the iPod Touch is crippled we double our money. Unfortunate really.

I'm hoping that when they announce the new iPod line that they also announce their annual "back to school" promotion at the same time. I need a MacBook Air and I'm holding off for a gift card to go along with it!

You know what's silly about discussion?

These people whining about "what's the point of an ipod touch when you can get an iPhone" - they wouldn't be saying the same thing if it was called "an iPad Pocket"

Some of just want an iOS-based-tablet-that-fits-into-your-pocket. In fact, the first iOs based tabled was not the iPad 1... iPod touch 1 was the first iOS based tablet.

Previous thread on the topic had some great posts:

This is great! I'm hoping they bring the iPod Touch all the way up to A8. These CPUs don't cost Apple anything to make these days, and we know now that they won't update it again for another 3 years so let's put a good CPU in this thing so it has some lasting power

Yeah, an A8 and 2GB of RAM would make sure it doesn't become obsolete by the time iOS 10 drops next year. If it's only an A7 with 1GB of RAM, Apple will be short changing iPod touch owners when it comes to the longevity of their device. There will most likely be noticeable and significant performance degradation with iOS 10. Any iOS device released in 2015 should have 2GB of RAM.

This is great news as I like the touch for a backup computer that I attach to my Bluetooth keyboard. When traveling, I like redundancy and the iPhone bleeds too fast. Also, the touch is more comfortable to pocket and carry. I see it as a great little brand capture device.

Here are the reasons I don't need an iPhone and would much rather stick with an iPod Touch instead:
  1. It makes no sense to me to pay $80/mo or more for an unlimited 4G plan, when I can pay ~$30/mo for a basic Wi-Fi package instead.
  2. I am almost always near a source of free Wi-Fi, and for the occasional times I am not, a cheap prepaid phone can pretty much always cover the rest, insofar as texting and calling are concerned.
  3. I would much rather pay $250-300 than up to $600 or more just to have a new device.
  4. I find the smaller size nice, although I wouldn't mind a 4.7-inch version.
  5. I find that the battery life is considerably better on the iPod Touch, potentially because I am not constantly refreshing 4G data and its connection.
  6. I enjoy being "untethered" and being able to shut off the connection just by going outside of Wi-Fi range.
  7. Free texting and calling services make it nearly an iPhone, all on its own.
  8. It makes a good Wi-Fi camera, as a few have pointed out.

you can't do it today thats right but what i meant is that its probably a feature of the new ipods, otherwise there is no point with new ipods. Its not a coincidence they release new ipods right after apple music.

The more I use Apple products, the more I like Apple hinting "Easter eggs" in their products as a find. :)

Apple DO know what they are doing....
