What do you think is in current Mac laptops? A hamster in a wheel?

1) Show me a Dell that comes with OS X installed that runs Final Cut, Logic, Aperture etc....Oh wait....
2) Than the most powerful Macbook Pro
3) Apple needs to update their hardware

Steve Jobs was personally notified of your demands and immediately called a top level board meeting. They concluded that, taking into account best ever Mac sales that have improved year on year, along with the recent record high share price, that apparently it is indeed, acceptable.

Sorry.

Alrighty then.:D

Okay then, it sounds like your mind is made up. Buy the Dell.

at this point, I think even most fanboys realize this, hence the 24K posts in the arrandale thread. Hardly anyone here would by a C2D MBP at this point.

OK.
1) It's couldn't care less. If you "could" care less, then you must care. Think about it for just a second.

2) Glad you're making do with your hackintosh. I earn my living using my Macs, hence I need reliability, updates and to know I have very good hardware support should I need it. My Macs earn their keep several times over in a year, so I have no issues with how much they cost.

3) Being a PC user, I don't expect you to understand this, but to me a system is more than the sum of it's technical specifications. I know, it's a wacky concept and I don't expect you to get it.

4) FWIW, I may well buy a new MBP when the new ones come out. My 3 year old MBP currently serves me more than well until then....I waited 7 months for my 2008 Mac Pro, using something called patience. But if I needed a macbook pro now, I would buy one now, and wouldn't have a problem with it.

5) Whilst the Core2Duo technology may be aging, it has been optimised since it's first release and is still a very capable chip, specifically the 3 Ghz model. It still gives a respectable performance, particularly when you take into account power draw.

I do 3D graphics for a living so I'm probably as well placed as anybody to whine about wanting faster CPU's but I don't. It's actually just an excuse for insufficient or poor output. 3 words....Workman, blame and tools. I'm curious to know what you do that requires that 20% faster performance? You don't even seem to have got the hang of your spell checker yet so what gives?

I have no respect for these hardware p*ssing contests.

I do not think the current MacBook Pros are a good value for their price, but the Dell, you specified, has a low end graphics card. Whether or not the 9600GT is outdated is irrelevant, as it still should be faster than a current low end video card. Furthermore aluminum enclosures like the macbook pros do contain value; the notebook is clearly better built, the notebook will have zero flex, the notebook can clearly survive a fall, etc...

You wish. Believe it or not, what you get is a four-year old CPU architecture.

People had no problems buying it when it was 3.5 year old technology? Whats the difference between 3.5 and 4?

Seriously. Spec whores need to look elsewhere for their computing needs. Apple has never been on the top of it's game in terms of laptop hardware. How'd you end up buying your first Apple laptop anyways? Gift?

Unlike Dell/HP/Sony/Etc. Apple doesn't prefer to install bloatware to subsidize the cost of the system. That leads to higher costs. On top of that, Apple spends a lot of money on design. Even after years of the unibody design, big companies are just starting to get on board blatantly copying Apple's design and features. You think HP spent even half of what Apple spent to design the ENVY line?

You are aware, that you can click no on the free crapware when purchasing a dell online. My HP has over 100 crap programs that were pre-installed when I got it. Sadly when you use the Windows Vista recovery discs, it installs it over again. Dell does ship the laptop with some dell ontrol panel stuff, that is helpful to me. But Anti virus is useless. I use Microsoft Sercuriy Essentials on pcs.

This is one of the many reasons I don't miss the Windows world at all, particularly pre-installed systems.

As for Dell....I'd be reluctant to buy one of their systems ever again, even if drilling my own eyes out was the only alternative. If you take away the cost argument so many PC users are so keen to use, there is no other advantage that I can see to buying a Dell except to give it to someone you dislike a lot.

Their design is awful and cheap and Dell's laughable customer support comes from a far away continent. A buddy of mine was told that if he didn't buy Windows 7 from Dell and handled the install himself, he'd void his warranty.

Anybody here who says Apple take advantage of customer ignorance should look closer to home....There's a lot more of that goes on in PC / Windows land.

You mean Mom and Dad's $1275? Unless of course you actually work and save some money, but you kinda don't seem the type. High school is demanding on computers, though. Go for the power. Tell Mom and Dad you need it.

No, I mean MY $1275. I have my OWN bank account. I have a job, I SAVE

Here's a little secret I have for you so listen closely. If those things aren't worth $1,000 to you, you probably shouldn't buy it seeing as you don't have to....
;) Spread the word.

Thanks for the secret. :) But as of now, I wouldn't buy a MB or any apple laptop. None except the MBA, iMac, and Mac Pro. 1k and you only get 2GB ram and a 2.26 GHz CPU? Or $600 and get the same when getting a mini? Redictulous! So when November and December of this year come up, Apple better have an i7 or an i5 in a 13 or 15 inch unibody aluminum case. If not, then it will be a pc for me.

Good for you! Thats how the world works when it comes to shopping.

One side note, the built in dictionary in OSX is really good and helps with spelling. ;)

You might as well buy a PC now. I am shocked that you would even consider buying a Mac with as much crap as you are throwing at Apple right now. In fact, I would bet that the MBP itself would run away from you when you attempt to buy one because you have hurt its feelings.

I have said this many times before: anyone who is dumb enough to buy a current MBP at full retail price should be kicked in the head. There are deals to be had to make the C2D machine a great buy right now. I would love to see what you have to say about Apple when Arrandale is considered to be old tech. Get a life guy.

English tutors, on the other hand, are worth it every time.

What purpose do these posts serve other than to try and put the person you disagree with down and you on a pedestal?

On a side note, I have decided to not wait. Sold my first gen blackbook for 550 and picked up a month old uni macbook for 700

I'm content with what I did with the price I paid

Sorry--it was over the line. I'm still riding the wave of amusement at the authority with which a high school student speaks about computers and market forces and what not. What can I say--it's a slow night.

So you went from the 2.4 Blackbook to the 2.26 Unibody White MacBook? Did you notice any improvement? Was the unibody built much better in your opinion?

No, I went from a 2ghz core duo blackbook with 2 gig ram from 2006 to a 2.26 mb with 2 gig ram from 2010

For day to day stuff, not much difference, but then again I can say the same thing with my quad hackintosh. I do like the screen better as well as the glass trackpad. It does feel nicely built

I figured paying 150 for a upgrade to the latest mb over my 4 year old one was too good to pass up

Geekbench scores quite a bit higher with this one over the old blackbook

With that said, I do miss the black laptop:eek:

I'm not buying a new computer. I just want the blind fanboys to realize that Apples hardware is outdated, and overpriced.
Then maybe you should head out and find some fanboys somewhere, so as to not waste so much time posting old news around here. You see... MacRumors is all about keeping abreast of the very latest info, and alerting users not to buy when updates are expected (in due course). So we were already aware of all this for some time now. Thanks anyway though.

Perhaps the CNET or Macworld forums would provide fertile ground for saving some lost souls. Be sure to use the f-word (fanboy) as much as possible... so they will know just how sincerely you care about all this.

Bon voyage.

I'm confused. Does outdated architecture suddenly stop the apps running?

I thought most informed people were saying dual core arrandales weren't a massive jump in performance over the current higher speed C2Ds? So you might get a 20% CPU bump in benchmarks which might result in some noticable improvments in day to day usage. So? It'll still be a MBP. Still run the same apps.

as for all these 'desktop replacement' laptops.. well I'd *like* a quadcore i7 in my laptop, but don't those things have about a 90 minute battery life? I have the original unibody MBP and I'd pretty much kill for the new 7 hour battery. Its the single most important spec for a laptop for me.

I'm not buying a new computer. I just want the blind fanboys to realize that Apples hardware is outdated, and overpriced.

You should also realize that it isn't only the "fanboys" group that adds to the sells of the Macs year after year. But people who are after the overall experience that you get from using a Mac.

I'm one of them now. And I still love Mac over Windows, but use both. The problem here is not that people dislike Apple or the Mac, it's just that they lack the money to buy one.

If I know, many people want to use Macs instead of crappy Windows machines, despite the outdates specs that you say.

I wonder if such powerful Windows beast (powerful in terms of specs, but system, nah?) can last longer than two hours. I mean, okay, you maybe can do a lot of work with them about 20% faster than the Macs, but can you do much work when you're traveling and your laptop is dead already?

I'm not buying a new computer. I just want the blind fanboys to realize that Apples hardware is outdated, and overpriced.

The Dell fan boys need get a reality check because Dell in recent years has had some of the worst consumer reports and even HP at times for the worst service.

I have 3 laptops in my house atm. Currently there is 2 1.67Ghz 17'' PowerBook G4's and 1 17'' Dell. All have a no more than 1gig of ram, dedicated graphics, and top of line at the time (in 2005). My macs whip my dell any day to the point the dell is never even used. It's my girlfriends computer and she hasn't used it in months. She agrees my macs are a lot better and more enjoyable to use...plus I don't have to **** with windows. I might reformat the computer with Ubuntu to get some use out it, but Dells are worthless (as well as all other PC's unless used with Linux).

And with coming close to a decade of professional computing and starting with PCs and the windows platform, I can confidently say that my Mac stands the test of time more so than any pc I have owned... My first mac was bought in 2005 and is only to be replaced by the next gen. I started with IT work and general computer repair, and now have moved onto full time web and software developer. My point is I have been doing this a long time and have seen many aspects of the business. And for my computer bought in 2005 is still used for work and personal use everyday.

And to be fair it's slower and am dire for a new one. (The reason I am in this thread..lol) But I would never buy anything else. Not because I am an "Apple fanboy", but need a long lasting, highly reliable, and something not made of cheap plastic. I have worked on all the models you mentioned above and they are all pieces of **** in my experience.

And for the record. Out of all the computer I have fixed over the years (hundreds) dells are the ones I dread the most. I think most would agree that hearing you regurgitate the word Dell over and over in a Mac forum annoying...but that's your point because you are obviously here to troll.
