You people are ridiculous on so many levels. You have an issue with "oh no the face id thing failed! Ahhhh" then its confirmed that it didn't actually fail and you move onto the next thing you could conceivably be upset about "ohhh wow. So it didn't fail. BUT what if a bunch of random people are just staring at my locked phone??"

You people are just looking for reasons to be upset. Jesus Christ people. It's never ending. Dreaming up scenarios that most likely won't happen ala Touch ID "what if someone wants to rob you and cuts your finger off?!?!"

Just take a break and enjoy the current state of tech for a bit. We live in amazing times

People should probably wait to pass judgement until this is actually out there and we get to see how it works (or doesn't), regardless of whether Apple's statement is absolute truth or just spin.

If the statement is absolutely true, and the phone is always scanning whatever face comes into range... I have to wonder how well this is going to work when the user is interacting with other nearby people.

No testing at Apple will ever beat the ultimate testing - millions of users around the world.

The hands on devices failed to work often as well. And why didnt the media there were able to test their own face for face ID?
I really hope it will work well.....But i have my doubts.

While the denial is plausible, I doubt an Apple rep would admit that Face ID didn't work as intended, even if it was true. I guess we'll never know for sure what happened, and it doesn't really matter anyway.

I believe the explanation, but why on earth couldn’t Craig just explain this on stage? He would have suspected this was the cause.

Instead, he nervously says “Woah!” and switches devices!

Now that I think about , November release is even more DETRIMENTAL perception wise for this model

For as much skepticism as its been met with, the further out the more excitement will die down IMO and the more speculation will intensify

Had apple considered that? They shoulda released a small batch into the wild like they do with most releases that can't meet demand, let the public speak for it, and play catch up later

Unless they're still ironing things out and not just ramping up production volume?

They are enjoying it. They come out each year for the October bitch fest. Apple tradition. They be gone soon enough. Next up are the my phone is not here yet crowd. Almost as delightful. It will quiet down by Valentine's Day. Then early summer the rumors will start up again. You can set your Apple Watch by their appearances.

That's true, like I've said before, the wait is going to direct more buyers to iPhone 8/8 Plus or competing smartphones. It's most likely forced due to OLED display supply or Face ID issues.

Or just staying put with what they got

The demo is not relevant. And even after the event it was only apple employees that were set up for face id.

When it hits the wild we will know if it's just markerting or if the system really works flawlessly. From Touch ID experience , wait for rev b or c
Well gee, instead of trying to convince the World why you don't need touchID by trying to show how good it is in a purpose build new theater I guess they could have just decided it's "not relevant". Yeah that'll do.

so does this mean people can go around locking peoples phones, potentially wiping them after x amount of retries, just by looking at it?
