exactly, I've learned a bit regarding updating over the years... I will update when it's actually needed for some reason... (10.9.5 & 7.1 will stay around for quite a while in my home, I think.)

My 27” iMac suffered a similar fate after installing the new os. The spinning beach ball of death, once a nonexistent presence in my life, has now become a more common sight than the actual cursor itself. Tabbed browsing now requires a whole new level of patience.

Sad to see Apple trying to force hardware upgrades by introducing software upgrades that essentially disregard the performance capabilities of the previous generation of products. Between bouncing icons and unwelcome pop-up reminders that pester me literally daily, it's getting real old telling Apple to get off my back. I paid for my product, let me use it as I wish.

Apple needs to be reminded, yet again, that not everyone can afford (or even cares to) buy every single new spec upgrade they burp out.. but hey, I’m sure their shareholders are happy and that’s obviously what truly matters to them.

And this means?

I believe the image was indicating an opinion from the poster that to upgrade to iOS 8 would or at least could be, in their view, precipitous to a circumstance that would be not entirely favourable, and, having been offered the benefits in the email sent to the recipient, the absence of counterpoints to the nature and tone of said email may constitute a feeling that one has been lead into a course of action that when looked at in retrospect, with all things considered, in the event of a more negative outcome, one might describe the experience in terms that may form at the very least an unexpected result in the context of the sum of all previously factors surrounding the device, its software and the process of raising the iOS version number upwards.

But the character pictured famously said all that in fewer words, and about something else. i.e. ("It's a trap!")

Funny isn't it because for me, iOS 8 has been a dream. What on earth are people doing with their devices nowadays?

Not giving my choice for downgrading if things went wrong equals to upgrade. Do not get me wrong, I update my iPhones and iPads to iOS 8 on day one. But I refuse updatey iPod Touch, iPhobe 4S and iPad mini first generation to iOS 8. This is one way process without chance to go back, I am not taking that risk for dealing with lagging devices.

iOS 8 on a iPad 2? Thanks, but no thanks. The two people I know who still have an iPad 2 switched to a Surface after accidentally installing it on their tablets. And I sold mine for a Windows phablet.

All of my devices work great with IOS 8.1. IPhone 5, I pad 2 and I pad 4. Overall very impressed with the upgrades.

Running IOS 8.1 on both my 5s and retina mini, and the 5s definitely seems quicker. Any bug or glitch on either device seems to be app related. Can't complain here.

I think they should have an IOS option on iTunes though, so one can pick either IOS 7 or IOS 8. Your choice. Why not, both are great!

Lie... It must be lie... Everything is perfect when it made by Apple. Did you not see how many people feel Safari is snappier? You switch to Windows? Apple's long time enemy? How can it be? Going to dark? /s

Even if another update comes out that doesn't slow my trusty iPad 2 down to a crawl as much, there's really no point since the newer features are not available for such an old model.. I'm sticking to iOS 7.

It's definitely still buggy on my 5S. iOS 8.1 needs to be followed by 8.2 pronto!

Very lag ridden unstable Messages happy. I went from a snappy experience with iOS 7 to many times during the day it being completely unresponsive to touch, to waiting significant time to read a message, and to having it completely crash. Horrible experience so far.

I've had other Apple apps freeze up too, even trouble with the phone app which is a big no-no.

Nothing snappy about Safari either.

on top of that, the experience overall after updating versus iOS 7 was very meh. Nothing really compelling here.

I could have waited longer.

Exatly like on my 5s. Random freezing, reboots, slowing down. Nothing "just works" anymore. With every day I'm less and less satisfied with Apple. :(

IF your registered to receive mail from Apple, why would this be spam? It may even be helpfull if people think they can't upgrade because they don't have enough space on their device.

I just feel like it's email advertising. I guess it can be helpful, but it's still spam to me.

I'm not having any problems with iOS 8.x. And, I had no problems with any of the other prior versions. But, I'm hardly impressed.

Many of the new features DO with on the iPad 2. For example, one I really like, if my iPhone is across the room and I'm on the iPad, phone will ring and I can pick it up and take the call with my iPad. Didn't slow my device down at all, in fact it's seems faster than OS 7. Your mileage may vary.

Regretting upgrade

We used t enjoy the I'm a PC-Im a MAC ads.
I think the boot is moving swiftly to the other foot.
As a immensely loyal Mac and iPhone customer I am deeply disappointed that I'm stuck in grayscale on iOS8.1 on my iPhone 5.
I did not spend that kind of money expecting incidents like that.
Especially not from Apple.
I love my MAC and the ecosphere, but have to move loyalties elsewhere.

Moral of the story: Don't upgrade until there is resounding evidence that bugs have pretty much been addressed.
Hoping 8.5 will be what 8.1 should have been.

And to think that we gave up black and white TV for this miserable looking little grayscale retina display.

"Come on Apple. You can do, (and used to do) much better than this!"

P.S.: I don't see MacRumors exploring just how many other Apple customers are getting increasingly disgruntled. What happened to courageous, independent reporting?

16GB Isn't enough for even the most casual of users anymore. Most of my friends are down to 100's of MB of free space, far from the 5GB required to update.

And iCloud Photo Share Library Storage Cloud Beta Share Backup 5GB Optimized is so convoluted that casual users don't even bother trying to figure out how that crap works and would rather just manually manage their photo libraries every time they get a low disk space error.

I think Apple put this on themselves and they're just gonna have to get used to not being able to brag about the amount of users on their latest OS.

You had me at iCloud Photo Share Library Storage Cloud Beta Share Backup 5GB Optimized.

And yes, I am serious.

Beautifully ***** stated.

Wait, what?

Thanks for reminding me Apple! I'll update my iPad1 to iOS8 right away!

I never even went to iOS 7 on my iPhone 4 (which can't run iOS 8... and can barely run 7).
