Haven't been to the Walden Galleria in probably 2 decades. we used to go down every christmas break as a family for a couple days for epic shopping trips for my mom and sister while my bro, dad and I would sit around the hotel bored off our minds. (Though NOTHING beats buffalo wings right rom Duff's or Anchor Bar)

having an Apple store makes that trip somewhat worthwhile now if there's ever an Apple Product I need thats not available here. Thanks for the heads up!

Only way I would go to the WG Apple Store is if I could reserve a watch there to be guaranteed its not a wasted trip down there. Also be nice to go there with my family, make a day of it.

I feel like I called this event title when it was announced it would be a spring launch. Admittedly, I thought Apple media-types would have been a little more creative than me.

A bit of a stretch don't you think? it happens twice a year. Not everything they do is marketing genius..some of it, and some of it isn't. Remember ping?

There are likely many factors that led to the date of the event, but on the surface it makes a lot of sense to capitalize on DST to help market the product. "Spring Forward" is a DST term ("Spring forward. Fall back.") and likely also relates to the launch timeframe.

It is also interesting that the event is on a Monday rather than the standard Tuesday. Could be be something as simple as the availability of the venue, or they could have done it to get as close as possible to the DST switch.

In any event, Apple are masters of marketing. The fact that anyone can look at the timing of the event, the invite, and the message and say "that's obvious" is a testament to their abilities. They make it look easy, which is hard to do.

P.S. Ping didn't fail because of marketing. Ping failed because of product.

This is a smart move... Apple used to have several events throughout the year which suffocated their competition and now it looks like all eyes will be on Apple Watch during the biggest upgrade cycle for Android phones.

And with WWDC in June and iPhone 6s/iPad launches in the fall, it looks like Apple will dominate tech news for the rest of the year.

Hoping the regular Apple Watch with Milanese loop will be around $600. If it's much higher I'll have to stick to the sport edition.

That's the one I have my eye one as well... I really hope Apple surprises me, but I'm thinking $1K... that would mean a Sport Watch for me as well.

So my (totally uninformed) predictions for the Spring event--

1. Apple Watch is announced (kind of obvious)
a. Starting price is $349 and that is just for the watch
b. bands starting at $49 basically pushing the cost of a watch to $400 for entry price.
c. SDK available with one or two APIs
2. Apple Pay expansion to select countries (after touting all the numbers of how great it has been in the US, of course)
3. Surprise Apple TV update (probably just my wishful thinking)
4. iPad Pro (no, i totally don't see that happening)
5. iCar (okay, I am getting to silly, I will stop)

That's it. Hope even one of these is correct. I am pretty sure #1 is correct, but I will be interested if they do it like the other tech announcements or if it will be done in more of a fashion forward way.

If this truly is an Apple watch event, it has peculiar timing. It's at least a full month before it's release. Either it's something else (iPad Pro, MBA) or they have some significant new features that would require such a time lag. Maybe something for developers??

Remember for iPad/iPhone they always have the event a week and a half before release. And for the iPhone/iPad initial launch sure they announced months in advance, but I don't believe they had another whole media event dedicated to announce it's launch/further details...
Wait a sec. How do you know its at least a month before release? Because Cook said it would ship in April? Doesn't mean they can't do pre-orders late March and have them ship early April.

There's now a Duff's about 1 1/2 miles from the Walden Galleria, so it's even more convenient to go down there now.

It's nice living in a border city. We go to Canada all the time for things that we can't get in the US. Like, Black Friday. Walmart offers the same black friday sales that they do in the States, but there are no lines as Canadians don't celebrate black friday like the States. Mostly because their Thanksgiving is in October. :)

Nice, looking forward to see this event. Just hope something else besides the watch but I doubt Apple will share the spotlight.

I think they may announce the upcoming rollout of Apple Pay to more countries since that technology involves the Apple Watch. Other than that, though, I don't expect to see anything steal the spotlight from the Apple Watch.

Entry watch price : 599$ :)
Sport with sensors : 899$
Gold with nothing : 1499$

Yeah apple :) what else? IPad refresh? Mac book air?

I won't be sarcastic...I'll assume you are ill informed - starts at $349. Most likely the sports with the plastic strap...

Every watch has ALL the sensors.

Beats music becomes part of iTunes Match no longer have to worry as a separate service.....Oh wait Tim Cook is no Steve Jobs he kisses Jimmy Ivines instead of taking over the service completely.

Hopefully we get some promising examples of what the Apple Watch can do, and also get some (even stealth?) updates to the Mac side of things. Is it still too early to hope for Broadwell portables?

Oh yeah, and my random guesses for prices:

$349 - $799 - $3999 for entry level prices at Sport/Stainless/Edition.

I dont think it's coincidence in this case.

the event is called "Spring Forward". which is a common terminology taught to remember the direction you're supposed to move your clocks.

in the winter we get "Fall back" to move our clocks backwards. and in spring we get "Spring forward" to remind us to move forwards.

purposely using this terminology is pure marketing from Apple. And very well done. it combines existing popular culture terminology that many people know off the top of their heads, with a product launch, that also coincides with better weather.

And if i live in AZ/HI or another place without DST? Yes, Spring forward/Fall back are mnemonic devices to help remember which way the clock goes. Yes, I get it's most likely for the watch...but not genius level. Clever yes...genius no. Besides isn't it on the 8th this year to spring forward?

1a - No... that will be the sports watch with plastic straps. So the sports one - aluminium with plastic strap = $349

They'll be selling complete watches... as shown on the site. Then you can buy extra straps as it.

1c. SDK is already available.

I wonder how much thunder this invitation will steal from the Galaxy S6 launch, and whether that was even Apple's intention.

I'm certain that the Galaxy announcement and the release of Watch in terms of the keynote date are not coincidental. Samesong is set out to derail the iPhone 6 momentum but the Watch announcement and release mutes that since you need a iPhone 6/+ persay to enjoy the watch fully.. Actually again a brilliant strategy.

I for one am certain the Watch will be a smash hit day one. It's a bigger animal than I think most realize. I mean if by April over 100 million iphone6/+ are in the wild even if 10% buy one that's a hit! Expect big numbers. The biggest Apple product LAUNCH to date.

Just hurry up and release the sheep watch 1.0.

That makes it sooner to the release of the real Apple Watch, 2.0.
With extra sensors and longer then 8 hour battery life.
