This has got to be the first new Apple product category that 99.9% of its customers cannot afford.

IMO not a great way to introduce a new product category, lol.

Especially only really being focused on entertainment like it doesn’t show anything NEW like what extra value does it bring me?

I am afraid developing something truly „emerging“ is just too time consuming / expensive and therefore most productivity apps will simply be ported or made to work on like a flat surface / on a virtual „screen“ floating in front of you, just like on a laptop display.

What I’d be looking for is Apps, taking you „inside“ and be „part of the UI“. You know what I mean? but I am happy to get proven otherwise.

Imagine having crappy depressing weather outside, which is bad for your mental health so you open something like a virtual „Calm“ app and it makes you feel like you are in Hawaii right now (or any place in the world to choose from). That would be amazing. Oh and I am not talking about a Nintendo Wii looking virtual world like on Meta

The bar is high for apple to win here no doubt, but this type of interface will fundamentally change the way we work. The old mouse in one hand and keyboard in the other is such a severely limited interface. Imagine trying to cook dinner with only point and click mouse and maybe some keyboard shortcuts. Really think about that for a minute, it’s incredibly limiting. Think of how many mouse clicks, how many control-shift-option clicks it would take to just make a decent pot of pasta. I’m not saying I think this first version from apple is going to be a home run but it will start a lot of us on the path to a vastly more productive, intuitive, and effortless way of working with our little machines and for that I am stoked to see how it works in my kitchen.

I think they should go all-in on showing us the office of the future: a circle of workers in ergonomic chairs, digital eyes blinking into a void in the center of them, with Uber Eats folk shoveling lunches and snacks into their mouths.

The future is so close I can smell it!
The future was shown in Iron Sky 2: The coming race.

The iReligion of Jobists on the Moon.

Isn't the Wall-E Documentary all about this "future"?

Well that’s the Meta Quest 3 right now. I have friends who dislike everything Facebook yet they got Quests 3 because they know they won’t be able to afford a Vision Pro at the current price.

They really want this?! (From the Meta 3 Promotional video)

All this needed to be was an inexpensive dumb VR headset with superior optics that airplayed from a iphone, ipad, or macbook. I'm not wearing a full blown mac on my face for hours on end.
The battery will die before it becomes a burden.

The commercial is clever and fun. However, it's also funny that all of the characters (except for the Minion) are putting on goggles/helmets as they embark on an epic adventure of some sort. The woman wearing the Vision Pro is getting ready to sit on her couch. 😅

While this is true, movies also almost never show people watching movies or TV, because, well, it's boring as heck to watch other people just sit and watch.

Freeform app? For the Vision Pro?! That’ll please the 10 or so people using it on iPhone!

Why does this product make so many people angry and unhappy?

Great question.

My hypothesis is that people secretly desire something new and exciting in their lives, but for whatever reason, they think this product isn't it.

But rather than just leave it at that, they feel they have to convince everyone that the thing is junk in order to live with their own cognitive dissonance.

This way, they are not the only ones missing out and their unhappiness seems justified.

Sidenote: I am sure this theory will also make many people angry and unhappy here, but fear not, my arms are open and the hugs are free

I suspect a few recent apps/features on other devices came out of Vision Pro development process, such as Stage Manager, Freeform, and SharePlay.

Stage Manager seems redundant to spaces and wastes screen real estate, but in VR you don’t have to worry about how much space a stack of apps takes up.
Freeform works best with a big canvas.
With SharePlay, you can have someone next to you while watching a movie instead of covering up part of the screen.

$3500... I'm really worried this thing is gonna get Chromecasted.

One of these "also decent" headsets that's 70% as nice and 70% cheaper might eat its lunch before Apple can get the price out of the stratosphere.

To this day, my wife has never seen the value of an Apple Watch, but she's a huge iPhone/iPad/iMac user. This could be that, but even more so.
But what is 70% as nice? You could argue that resistive touchscreens were “70% as nice” as the iPhone capacitive touchscreen, but the experience was black and white. I think there a bare minimum where AR feels like reality, and it’s very complex and expensive to achieve. If you check videos of a Quest 3, no matter how acceptable it can be for VR games for its price, it’s miles away from displaying convincing AR.

Whilst that is a great ad I don't think they do themselves any favours trying to make it a piece of home electronics when its priced alongside the Mac Pro.

like the intro part, but when she puts the glasses is a bit meh, only Apple purists will understand those random icons floating around.
Apple users use those icons every day. It’s not about being a purist.

Journal, Music, Keynote, AppleTV, Safari, Pictures, Notes etc. Hardly a list of purist apps, rather ones that could be useful on the Vision Pro. And all Apple Only Apps unsurprisingly.
