Huh? How is Apple giving us what we want? Where is the real pro laptop - the one that doesn't require dongles, can support RAM above 16GB AND is user installable? Where is the MacPro and upgradable (storage and RAM) 21" iMacs? Where is the tablet with a real file system?

I don't recall anyone here asking for useless touch bar that caters to emoticons. Or begging Apple to dump Apple displays and Airport.

So who is this "we" you speak of?

Exactly!

Don't forget thinner MacBook Pros. I'd like ONE owner of the 2012-2015 generation of Retina MacBook Pro to chime in and tell me they wanted a thinner notebook. Don't worry I'll wait .. (I mean who wants great battery life?) ..

Didn't Phil say that there would be power issues adding more RAM? ... Sure. But the abundance of people who wanted thinner, that was pure logic sauce Mr. Schiller.

To keep this on topic, I'll just ask it... is there a face palm sticker?

are you kidding me, they are selling the stickers, Tim Tim what we are going to do with you, please leave soon, at least the emoji are free and come integrated on the system, I'm sure I can get any picture and put a free sticker "non apple sticker" in there then upload that picture as a message without having to pay a single penny. this is getting ridiculous.

where is the new Mac Pro Tim , the last model is from 2013 and we get new phones every year , watches etc, I don't have nothing against any of those devices but what's up with the Mac Pro, abandoned and forgotten.

this why I build my own Hackintosh PRO

Why is it that almost all the comments sections on this site seem to be just people whining about Apple? You'd think that a site devoted to Apple might attract more supportive commenters. I've been reading Ars Technica a lot lately and the comments sections just seem a lot more...rational. Apple producing one ad about one comical feature has nothing to do with their priorities. If they're working on new Macs, which I sincerely hope they are, this ad (for their largest revenue stream by the way) will not stop them from doing so.

My guess is that there are a lot of sad people who don't have much going on in their life. And bleating tiny whines against Apple probably feels incredibly empowering.

Lol my stickers I've made has a facepalm sticker in it! :D :p
Stickers are awesome :)

And it will NOT be what the people want. The world is not only 18 year old kids who get their Iphones for their birthdays from helicopter parents.
I think a good case could be made in support of your observation.

I thought the ad was fun and done very well.

But I think that the idea of animated emojis (which is what these stickers basically are) confirms the direct that Apple is going in... as if the emojipalooza that is iOS 10 wasn't a big enough clue.

That direction over the years seems to be: Easy -> simple -> simplistic. I'll leave it to the reader to determine where on that line Apple is.

This is part of Apple's effort to hook young people in, hook them in early, hook them in hard. The iPhone (NOT the iPod Touch) is the gateway to customer loyalty for a new generation. If young people get hooked on Apple's exclusive apps and services they are more likely to stay with Apple for other devices like tablets and notebooks.

Once hooked, there is no need to aggressively keep them. No need to aggressively advance the capabilities of tablets, notebooks, desktops, all-in-ones. For those people, a dumbed-down iWork will suffice. Middle-of-the-road hardware will be fine. Tight integration with Apple's services is preferred.

I believe that strategy will work and is working. But it means that it is a different customer-set than what Apple has had up to this point. We see it in the criticisms of the retina Macbook, Macbook Pro, even the iPad Pro. Those are the transition pains. I can see that I am NOT the customer of Apple's preferred future. Which explains why I prefer the iPhone SE and Macbook Air (over their newer counterparts). I'm not angry about that but I see it for what it is.

Anyone see the irony here? On one hand Apple tries to sell their devices as Pro and they raised their prices to match... Yet they endorse stickers and emoji's as the best thing ever gotta have feature. That's two features I will never use. Thanks Apple, can I get a coloring book too.

Not all fans are lemmings. In fact most fans will get upset when the coach makes a bad call or worse. They don't say "Great call call coach. Going for it on 4th and 6 was smart, just didn't work out." No. The stadium erupts in boos and fans at home are tossing empty beer cans and expletives. Just because they are booing doesn't make them not fans. They are upset because they are fans and it was a stupid move that hurt their team.

This ad is beneath Apple. Raising "stickers" as a major selling features is just, well, sad. Yes, I'm an Apple fan... because of its long track record of making good product. But they doesn't mean they are above appropriate criticism.

And at the same time, it doesn't mean apple should not cater to a particular age group with cute adverts. While they are not above criticism they aren't above a "cute advertisement aimed at a specific age group promoting a specific feature."

I don't see the irony at all. I may have to top-end desktop "professional" computer, yet I might want it to do cute, fun and simple things.

absolutely useless. I think people should choose which services IOS should use. I think the OS and iOS is dimer every year. I can not believe how the quality dropped in recent years. We loosing functions every update and get stupid stickers :D cracks me up. o_O

Apple should cater to its multiple demographic groups. But I'm not sure stickers is a feature that advances sales to any demographic. The kids in my life text to adults -- maybe with emoticons, but Snapchat with their friends. Kids right now are wedded to that system. Stickers are just not a "gotta have," "too cool" feature that makes anyone want to switch to it or go buy an iPhone. And if Apple is producing ads to try and sell stickers, well, that is a lot of money and time for nothing.

I have no problem with cute ads but stickers is just a throw-in feature and over promoting it trivializes the iPhone and makes it look like a toy. Over time a steady diet of that kind of kitsch can damage a brand.

Hey, let's all pretend we are Snapchat and clutter our messengers with BS
It sure did wonders to kill my iPhone 6 plus...

Are you forced into using emojis and stickers?

Some people use text messages for "quick" conversation. It's still 100% possible to text out a novel.

I'm forced into having the addition of the new rich text options totally bog down my 6+. Post iOS 10, it takes way too long for my once snappy "quick reply" to actually pop up for me to be able to respond. I just want a way to turn it off.

Anybody know what pack those color changing monster stickers are in (The Creature From The Black Lagoon features prominently in the static shot before you start the ad.) I've looked through the ones Apple put on that page and can't find them. :(

Exactly. I'm typing this on a 2017 HP Spectre 15" with the 4k screen. In order to make the 4k screen and discrete graphics work, HP made it 1mm thicker and a few grams heavier than the previous generation. You don't notice either and it's still a very slim and portable machine. And it's a much better machine than a 15" MacBook Pro from a hardware perspective. Windows, while it has come a long ways is tolerable.

the problem is, and why too many people repeat that sort of nonsense is directly because of something Steve Jobs once said about giving customers what they want:

... “A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them.”

This has often been misconstrued to mean that Apple / Jobs dictates to the user what the user wants and that Apple is infallible and always giving what the user needs

But thinking that based on the quote doesn't understand the Nuance of the statement.

Steve Jobs meant that people have wants, and apple can deliver them. it's the unseen, and unknown wants that Apple attempted to deliver on. It helped that Steve Jobs himself was very in touch with the market, and what people were looking for

The market was aiming towards smartphones phones. Steve knew this. He delivered, without needing to ask customers.

However, to act in this matter, you have to have a pulse of the market and understand what people need before they realise it, and not just assume that if Apple creates it, people want it
