Has Face ID really been that inaccurate for you?

Yes. I even turned off the setting that checks for attention to unlock.

The other thing I miss (and didn't realize consciously until it was gone) is that with TouchId I often unlocked my phone with my thumb as I picked it up, and it was ready to view by the time I was looking at it. With FaceId I have to look at it to unlock. That also means I always have to pick it up. I can't unlock and use it while it sits on my desk. :( I just liked TouchId better.

You're using it wrong if you don't a) pick it up and look at the phone or b) have an angled stand.

Jokingly aside, it's ok you're not the only one. Clearly, you, I, and many others have not adapted to Apple's required behavioral patterns to fully experience FaceID even after turning off most of the features. When it's laying flat on my desk, I have about a 90% failure rate. When I bend over to look at it, I notice your face/eyes have to be nearly parallel to the surface. The same goes with when you're lying in bed.

That grouped notification seems interesting. And unlocking without swipe would have been great addition..hope we get that soon..

A great showcase of iOS 11 UI animation bugs (iMessage notification at 00.51), and how TC’s Apple products are best appreciated by clueless high schoolers whose tool parents buy them $1000 phones.

Utter nonsense, Apple have had some fantastic ads over the past few years - and whoever is in charge of music selection is a genius.

The Anderson .Paak/FKA Twigs/Spike Lee advert might be the best technology advert i've ever seen.

It is Spike Jonze.

This ad is with Stranger Things vibe targeted to high schoolers. I like it. I like Face ID. I don't like the notch and stupid notifications.

This ad demonstrates how far the Apple brand has fallen. I love Apple. But what happened the ads that expressed the importance of technologies such as Siri, TouchID and now FaceID. For example ads that show how Siri can help in an emergency situation. This ad expresses disorder.. from a brand that used to stand for perfection down to the packing material used for the boxing of each product.
Its a commercial about unlocking a phone, how much can u really do with that on a serious note? Ether way though its a passive commercial, a company cant keep doing the same thing they been doing for years, they are currently doing a lot of these passive commercials not exactly trying to sell people on features and products just letting it speak for itself. Im sure they know this isn't as effective as doing a commercial specifically to sell more phones, thats the difference between a cool culture rich company and a company just trying to take your money which hype will not last.

Should’ve made it a dark commercial about a girl with super powers like Carrie.

I'm surprised you feel that way. I don't think anybody is going to miss the fact that she's opening others peoples locks. But what she's doing is clearly impossible. It's fantasy and as such it absolves itself from any critique that would come from what she's doing being a real threat. I've no doubt that most people will understand the concept. It's not to be taken seriously, it's fun...

BUT! What she is doing though is strongly demonstrating Power, Control and Ease of Use. Three characteristics that Apple would very much like to have associated with FaceID and that's why I think this is a great advert. It communicates very effectively.

Of course it supposed to be fun and not taken seriously but when making an add one has to think about every way that add can be perceived. Sure, my interpretation may be lateral thinking but as you can see I am not the only one in that thread who came up with that. I also showed it to a couple of friends and like 50% of them had the same interpretation.

Look at it that way... The demonstration of power you are talking about is used by showing her "opening" all kinds of stuff but stuff which is not hers! They could have easily used that concept in regards to aspects of her own environment, like her home for example.

There's nothing wrong with exaggeration and fun but with certain topics (security and personal data) I think there would better ways to convey that.

Camera is good for pictures but once you switch to video and low light situation it’s a different story.

Animation bug near the end, when it reveals the notification with attention the text drops outside the notification bubble

Apple this afternoon uploaded a new iPhone X video to its YouTube channel, which is designed to show off Face ID, the facial recognition feature of the iPhone X.

In the humorous video, which appears to take place at a high school, using Face ID on the iPhone X causes everything in the surrounding area to unlock, including lockers, cabinets, doors, and more, with items flying everywhere.

Apple has shared several video ads focused on the iPhone X, including short tutorials and demonstrations of features like Face ID, Animoji, Portrait Mode, and Portrait Lighting.

This minute-long video will likely be aired on television in the coming days and weeks.

[doublepost=1521289370][/doublepost]The commercial is genuinely poor. What's worse is that they spend $$ on such a ****** feature. It works maybe 50% of the time. It absolutely NEVER works with my Oakley Prizm sunglasses on. I called support 1x after buying the phone on delivery day. What a joke their level 1 customer playbook was. #overratedfeature, #veryoverratedfeature, #wayoverhyped

A lot of times when others use the word “innovation”In the context you did, they truly don’t understand what it means, let alone you are likely looking for reason to disparage against Apple regardless. But this ad doesn’t take away from how Face ID is a game changer.
Completely disagree!! My question to you? Do you truly understand what innovation means?

You made this comment to disparage against him! You are with an agenda here. Picking people and making personal attacks on them and harassing them. You should be banned immediately.

Nope, reality. I unlock my phone 50+ times a day, and going from 1 or 2 TouchID failures to having to enter my passcode 25+ times a day would not be an option (for me). I would’ve returned it the same day.

I really can’t understand how you deal with this on a daily basis!

I don't unlock my phone that often in a day. My other options aren't great. I'm a cyclist wearing bifocal contacts when I ride, so the bigger screen in a smaller form factor works well for me. I had the 6S Plus, but it was a bit large for my jersey pocket, and won't fit in the top tube bag of my gravel bike otherwise. My contacts while riding don't provide full strength correction so I don't want the smaller screen of the iPhone 8. The X is perfect in those regards. The alternative is to use an Android phone. While there isn't anything wrong with that otherwise, it's too much of a change I don't want to deal with.

You're using it wrong if you don't a) pick it up and look at the phone or b) have an angled stand.

If they could work out TouchId on the display of the X that would be perfect.

Return it and **** about it, otherwise your story is invention.

Come on, give me a break stop grasping at straws.

It baffles me how just a few people realize how stupid the concept of the add really is!

FaceID is about personal security and yet she's running around opening stuff she's not supposed to open.

I mean come on... I just can't wrap my head around to how this add was cleared to be published!

The fact that they didn't even try to hide that interface glitch with the notification speaks for itself...

Dude... get your facts right!

The only stupid person is the one making your kind of post.

Offbeat, quirky, and energetic. Fellow MR readers aren't gonna like this…
Because it appeals to average, non-techncally-minded young people who would simply be bored with mundane spec lists or quality comparisons; not the type that frequent this forum. And it makes a lot of sense to appeal to that audience from a marketing perspective.

But what I don't like about Apple's recent ad campaigns is the little amount of focus given to the Mac. If even Apple treats the Mac as a product with little appeal to today's average young people, and therefore a product with little hope for a quality, sustainable future, that's exactly what it'll become.

Good ad for a barely working feature. Works 5 times out of 10 and it's even worse in low light.

Looks like the notification animation when you unlock the phone after looking at it to check your notifications.
I think it's supposed to work like that? Either way if Apple let this "bug" pass in a video just shows they stopped caring at all :D

LOL there is a bug in the phone used in the ad. At the end when she looks at the text on the lock screen the words jump out of the text bubble before it expands. it's quick and hard to see but it's there.
