Ah so Apple are worried about the new S9 then, considering it’s markedly cheaper then the iPhone X it should be!
If they don’t drop the price of the 11 and then start the 11 Plus from say 1200 to 1300, then Apple will lose sales I think no matter how many videos it makes.
Until it really reflects on their sales numbers i doubt it. While sales can be down from the year before they are still selling huge amounts.

It's symbolic for how all your home screen icons will needlessly be at the top, just out of reach.

These ads are cool and all, but at the end of the day this is just -- surprise -- marketing. That's all it is, both on Apple's side and Android's side. I have experience with both. iOS and Android both do the same things, and frankly I wouldn't say that any platform excels over the other. iOS is leagues behind Android in areas, where as Android is behind iOS in others.

Perhaps the real problem is the folks that put their identities in their cellular device of choice. Who are we kidding? Like Apple or Google needs cheerleaders.

.... Apple sold 83M iphones at almost $800 each...

Yeah, that's the problem right there. You lost me - and a few billion other people - at $800. That's a lot of money for a TOY that barely has a lifetime of two years before it becomes obsolete. You can get at least six(!) TP-Link Neffos C5 Max devices for the same money - and the Neffos is already more smartphone that most people will ever need.

98% of Android users choose android phones because they are cheaper. No amount of cute advertising is going to change that.
Well they wouldn't need cute advertising to make that change. There are cheap iPhones on the US market for customer to choose from if they want to switch from Android to iOS or if they want to remain in the iOS ecosystem with a less expensive phone. Buy from an MVNO.

I would love to watch an ad with Tim saying: ...and we will never mess up older devices with our software updates anymore... in an unicorn animoji.

iPhone | IOS | User... and the mobile provider is pretty minor.

Any Other phone | Mobile Provider Layer | Other Phone Layer | Android Layer. Kiss getting any update goodbye.

Why is Android so widespread... because it is put not only on premium devices... but also on any piece of junk.

I understand your point of view. But, let's say, what happens when 1, 2 or three years from now phones hit that wall and each year the phone is the same. Will you still go out and buy a $1200 phone? Or would you get a $500 phone that will last just as long?

My friend just got "lured" into buying an iPhone cause his Galaxy S6 was the most non-user-friendly piece of garbage I've seen since 2006, plus it was difficult to search for help due to the fragmentation. Went through that adventure trying to transfer photos off it via USB.

I won’t lie, the iPhone 6 got me queuing at the Amsterdam Apple store whereas I didn’t find the 5(S) generation compelling enough to part with my 4S.

But then, when I had to hand in my 6 for repairs 2 years later, a friend lend me his almost unused black iPhone 5 and I was like.. WOW. That thing was a beauty. And so pocketable. Slap an edge to edge display and improved internals on that pitch black chassis, and I’d probably queue outside an Apple store again ;)
Me and you both! I think my favorite phone that I've ever owned was my iPhone 5. I had that phone for FOUR years. My current phone is 5.7". Every now and again, I'll hold my iPhone 5 and realize that I LOVE how small it is. Definitely interested in the successor to the SE!

Nice work Team Apple. This already feels like a classic campaign like the old Get A Mac ones. Simple. Impactful. Marginally funny.

All Apple haters are pathetic losers.
Tim Cook appreciates your loyalism, good sir!
It will take a lot more than that, from what I can tell. The smartphone industry has peaked, and like it or not, the iPhone isn’t as compelling a device as it used to be.
Isn't this the truth.

My first smartphone was an Android device. I had a pull-down notification shade while iOS lacked one, but in all other regards that phone was NOT great. I got an iPhone 5 afterwards and never looked back.

Fast forward to now, years later. I'm rocking a Nexus 6P running the latest version of Android (8.1). Bought it used off of eBay last year. This thing is darn near incredible. Leaps and bounds more capable than iPhone in many regards. My point? Android did indeed used to suck -- however that isn't where we find ourselves today. The iPhone is less and less enticing every year when I can get a phone just as capable for much less.

True, very true. Also, Android phones devaluate way faster, so, you can get quite decent androids for cheap, after a few months from release.

This branch of Apple's marketing department is WAY out of touch with reality. Samsungs "wall hugger" and line waiting, and the haircut with the notches in it are so much better. No one is even going to notice these commercials. I remember when the Samsung commercials came out making fun of Apple users for waiting in long lines came out.

Citation available?

Me, I don't want to pay more than $300 for any phone... iOS or Android. I was able to get a used LG G4 for $220. I've been using it for over a year... no problems thus far. Yet, it still "feels like a $650 phone".

Cheaper iPhones, yes. But not $50-100 cheap.

Ironic they’re working the security angle on the heels of the Cellebrite news. Not that the Cellebrite hack means much to me.

We are at the F- series vs Silverado point. Ads don't change brand preference. They arm their userbase with copy and remind customers to upgrade.

You think companies spend millions in advertising and marketing every year to preach to the choir? I mean, that's definitely part of it, but you really don't think there's an effort to lure people off the competitor's platform?

your phone = better battery life
iPhone = old battery life

On paper.

In practice, Android phones tend to let applications and background processes kill your battery life and tracking those things down can take a while which is a headache. By contrast, iOS limits what background processes can do and gives you clear options for stopping background activity if you choose. Fresh out of the box, clean install of Android might outdo iOS in terms of battery usage, but in practical usage, it's not even close. And yes, I've owned both and I know this firsthand. Battery drain on iOS is really not that big an issue.
