Speaking of wishful thinking....... a little price drop would be nice as well. :D

If there is no price drop, and the capacity has remained the same, Apple has lost it.

$50 for a 2GB Shuffle? Eh, rip off but acceptable for the whole package I suppose.
$150 for a 16GB Nano? You've got to be kidding me.

while it is part of the cult and the expectations ... but why haven't they updated to some system where they don't have to take the store down for half a day just to update a few products on there .... just imagine Amazon would do that every time they add something new or remove something. It is time to move to the next century.

But good that they update the touch - may parents/kids will be happy about it.

And Amazon's site is utter **** for finding things when you get to the nitty gritty of it.

Just search "iPod Touch". The first item on the first page is a 4th gen (I think, it doesn't say...), scroll down and it's all in some crazy order with no uniformity in images or descriptions - it's really all over the place, and further down the first page we even get an iPod Nano, and a Zune in the sponsored links lol!

How much effort would it be to include 32GB of flash instead of 16GB in the current Nano. The Nano is 3 years old, I bet they could even use the same size chip by now. :(
Changing anything internal would require retooling, changing supplier contracts, new QC checks, and would likely increase component cost. Even if it's 5¢ a unit it's not worth the change on such a small seller. Changing the colour requires little if any changes in production costs.

Like doing anything productive this morning I'll have to wait!
Also, was Apple trying to troll with the Tuesday 14 date on the calendar?

Amazon is basically just the U.S. and doesn't operate internationally like Apple. Synchronizing over 100 online Apple stores with different languages and currencies is one reason. The other reason is probably the media. When the Apple Store goes down it becomes a story and builds anticipation.

PR Department is laying it on a little thick in the comments section, don't ya' think?

Apple really doesn't understand how the internet works.

Why do they have to "go down" in order to update with new products?

No, they really do understand how the internet works, they take their store down which creates excitement, so people talk about it like we are now - They have it down to a T.

Nah, it's a marketing gimmick. there is absolutely no need for a two hour downtime to update ANY site.

Facebook updates itself without zero downtime. Even Apple's long downtime is only for new product launch, not when the rest of the site is updated.

They're just building up anticipation

oh please. if it were Apple PR people the statments would read like

"Apple is refreshing the best media players in the world, with a range a brand new, never seen before unapologetic colour combinations that will wow your friends and bring excitement and new life to your boring and blank music. Never before have the iPod product lineup been so fresh and exciting. We wanted to make this change so that our users, and everyone else in the world would get the best music playing experience, by letting them enjoy their colour choices"

I hope this refresh supports Apple Music. Need a new iPod nano for the car that I can put music on from the subscription service (fingers crossed)

It's a consequence of the marketplace aspect of Amazon. This is typical for items with large numbers of vendors. Obviously this can be specialized for Amazon's own products like with the Kindles. For items beyond their control however, vendors are able to sell the items with a large amount of freedom, which is what leads to the scattered results that you see.

Amazon does operate internationally, except they have different websites.

I don't think they do it just for the hype. I don't think Apple would care that much about its followers to do something like this just for they hype. It's more likely that there is more going on technically than we know about.

Probably logistical, rather than technical.

My guess is its something to do with choreographing launches across the website, bricks & mortar stores and press releases, across US time zones and internationally. I don't even want to think of the logistics of that.

Actually, although a lot of people have mentioned about how you would stage a new version of a website and then instantly switch, it probably isn't quite so simple if you have to do it simultaneously for multiple localised websites around the globe and synchronise it all with the start of a press conference in California.

Tell me why its 2015 and Apple still has to bring down their entire store to update things. Seriously, im trying to order a $2000 MBP and they have to really take that off too?

and because you know how they talk, you therefore know how to avoid talking like that! EXPOSED!
