Many Apple stores already have some type of barrier in front of them though.
Sure, and in some locations, it's absolutely the right decision.

But the prompt I was replying to was "Please explain the negatives of adding some type of poles..."

My comment was an explanation of some negatives, as requested; it is NOT an argument whether Apple shouldn't (or should) have barriers.

Awful, I've always thought some Apple stores were vulnerable to this kind of attack. I think it would be wise to put bollards up (decorative or not) with stores that have easy access from the street. Sad to hear someone lost their life, I hope others will be ok after such a horrible incident.

The next closest outdoor Apple Store has bollards, they’re just edited out of the official photos of the store if you look on Apple’s sites. We (the employees at the time) asked for them to be put up after a medical event caused a crazy accident out front in 2017 shortly after the store was remodeled. Apparently our concerns went unheard.

There has been a long time recall on Toyota Tacoma's and 4Runner's that have had issues with their floor mats getting caught by the accelerator. I don't think anyone knows yet if this was the cause, or if the driver was the original owner who would have gotten the recall notice, did a dealer sell it to him, etc.
I have to say you’re quite the optimist.

UPDATE: This just in… the driver has been arrested. He is 53 years old. He is being charged with reckless homicide by motor vehicle. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Hingham District Court.

Not a Tesla, as I said. I'll attach a photo from the Boston Globe story if anyone is interested in pursuing

It's a Toyota 4Runner. I was responding to your "not unless Tesla is making black SUVs now” comment which implied that Tesla doesn't make black SUVs when they've actually had two SUV models available in black.

Tesla "jokes" like the one an other poster made. And yes, a man was killed in this crash and several injured. Not everything on the internet is a joke.

Agree. The “jokes” on here have been inappropriate given the unfortunate circumstances.

It’s MA, $10-15k to the lawyer, 6 months in a low security facility, 6 month probation, maybe a loss of hhs license and an insurance surcharge if he drives a car registered to him.

Hopefully everyone is ok. People are getting nuts. I get it, people are fed up with what this government is trying to do but to crash into a store that only has innocent people inside….

Welp, guessing an oldster is about to lose his/her license.

....or an oldster who shouldn't be driving any more. Happens a lot around here.
Sooo, driver isn't an "oldster" (I'm one, lol)....he's 53 and has been arrested previously in Vermont, in 2020, for DUI.

It’s all right he/ she will be released within few hours. Just a crash, one dead couple injured. No big d

I agree to your agree!!

I’ve been reading these comments and some of them are just disgusting. Someone died, dozens hurt- all of them innocent people. Their lives will never be the same. The Holidays are just getting underway here in the U.S. , this is a terrible time for families going through this. My heart goes out to everyone involved. This isn’t the thread for jokes or sarcastic comments. If you can’t comment anything nice, then don’t comment.

Quite often, they charge the minimum charge they can at first, with the intent to enhance the charges later. It's better to charge too low, then pile them on than to charge too high and have to step them down.

I am shocked that I am about to say these words but, I hope he was just a drunk driver.

It's always been my opinion that drunk drivers that kill someone should get a mandatory death sentence if convicted. It is in no way an accident when they kill.
Exactly you need to take responsibility before you impair yourself. I think there needs to be more push on friends and family to stop them.

Local news is now stating that it was purely an accident (foot stuck on accelerator).

The driver had no connection to the store or employees.

A tragic accident (the driver will still face charges), let's hope they install some bollards.

I get what you're saying with the "main take-away" comment.

But a lot of people have more "take-aways" from an incident and may choose to post about one that crosses their mind. It doesn't mean they don't have any empathy or compassion for those involved as that is what you were insinuating.
Thank you, that is a very good point. I agree with you - I just wish they'd quickly note a compassionate response as well to indicate that, but you're right - just because they don't, doesn't mean they don't care about the victims and the tragedy that unfolded.
