Following the trackers on the iPhone preorder thread and now I'm wondering whether the Taiwan typhoon flight delays are going to impact the store shipments. Yikes

Can I leave a folding chair in line and come back in the morning?

You can it might be gone by the time you come back someone else might be sitting in your seat/spot

I used to work for Apple. I'll chime in here.

1. Apple Stores gets iPhone couple days before launch date sitting in a room with 24/7 guards (not joking).
2. There ARE limited stock (like any other product launching and releasing to the public) but they do get shipments throughout the day and your best luck is be the first 50 in line to guarantee your iPhone if you didn't pre-order.
3. Don't bother calling in the store.
4. If you pre-ordered, there's a SEPARATE line you will still wait for about 5-15 min even though you made reservation to pick up in store so that the traffic of people aren't crazy.
5. Your best bet is to wait at a carrier store over night if you really want one since no one really camps out for that. But good luck!
6. Be safe and have fun.

Cheers! :)

Why do people say no one camps out at Carrier stores? In Northern California EVERY AT&T store I see has lines on iPhone launch days…hundreds of people at the bigger stores too.

Really depends on where you are. I know people that wait in line (for fun) every year and manage to get the phone they want (usually a popular one). They usually go around 3-4am. Lines are pretty long already but I guess the stores are just stocked well here (SoCal). There's also a good amount of stores to choose from. About a dozen within 40 miles I believe.

I just went my local Apple Store here and the gm told me that they will not have any stock for walk-ins for Friday Morning and that the "Very limited stock" they will have is going to be sold to people that reserved the iPhone. He claimed reservations online were not only for people buying through the Apple upgrade program and that reservations were available for everyone including people paying full off contract price and that I should reserved just like the rest of the people, there goes my hope to get one on launch day, I'm just going to wait 2-3 weeks for my preorder to come in this is some bs with all this Apple upgrade program bs

Sheesh that's tough. So there may be some truth to that article from 95 then.

I reserved an iPhone 7 for pickup at the Apple store at 8 AM. Hopefully we'll get a separate line from the walk-ins and it will be relatively painless. Anybody have any idea what time I should arrive? I've never done the in-store reservation before.

If you have an in store reservation just get there a few minutes beforehand and you should be able to walk right in the store during your time. Shouldn't be any hassle.

I can confirm that is true... I reserved a phone right when they went on pre-sale (like 3:05 AM) and I am not on any iPhone upgrade program. I'm just paying full price for the phone.

find it hard to believe an apple store won't have stock. My uncle has been in line for severals days and has been guaranteed a jet black model.

If you go, go early. One year I showed up at 6:30 at the Apple store in Lancaster PA which is the middle of nowhere and Amish country... I didnt get a phone until 4:30 PM later that day.
Also, I will note I have had to call 5+ times about issues with my iPhone 7+ reservation and it was mentioned on each call I could attempt a walk in to get the phone o wanted.

I just called Apple and they called my local store to check for me. They said they do plan on having some stock for walk in. They expected lines to start at the particular store around 6:00am.

Can you upgrade to the new iPhone in an Apple Store if you have ATT next?

Yes you can. That's how I pre ordered last Friday at 6 am. Made sure my 6s was paid for on previous next (passing this on to my mom who has a 16gb i6). Reserved for store pick up at 8:30-9 am at Apple Store in Miami Beach under next 24 with annual upgrade option. BTW reserve a black matte i7/128gb

I didn't reserve so I'm hoping to grab one by walking in. Going a few hours before open. There's no point to try and reserve one now right?

Not sure. Check the Apple Store app. In my area Miami (4 Apple stores) nothing is available anymore for pick up. Now that Apple allocated that supply for the issues they had with people with the Apple upgrade program I can only imagine the supplies are gone now.

Where do you see the option to reserve? Or is it only for the upgrade program. I see that reservations don't start till Saturday.

It's not there man, I don't see no reserve option either it seems like apple only cares about their "Apple Upgrade Program Custumers" and let's only them reserve a quick and easy spot to get their phones and if that wasn't enough they allocated nearly their entire incoming iPhone 7 inventory to please these Apple upgrade program customers as 9to5mac mentioned in the article they published today.

For those of us who reserved for in-store pickup, I've read in other threads, that there is a separate line. I have a 30 minute check-in window. Anyone familiar with how long you have to wait to grab your phone and go? I can turn it on myself. I'm using my lunch break to pick it up.

I was not in the upgrade program and reserved a phone (actually 2) a few days ago. The option for pickup has since changed to "unavailable".

You have a 30 min window. Make sure you're arriving 15 min before your scheduled pick up time.
