Rumor is an extra .2mm thicker.
Has any other "S" release had a form factor change?

On the scale of a fifth of a millimeter change? Well, the 5 to 5S update introduced TouchID and the metal ring around the home button, and I believe changed the flash dimensions. So, yeah. Just not in the overall H/W/D dimensions.

I actually wasn't referring to a second generation Apple Watch at all, but rather that Apple could announce new options for the current Watch, like new bands or casing options. This would give gift buyers the ability to buy a Watch-related item for those who already own a watch.

I agree, that we will not see any new hardware (a 2nd gen model) for quite awhile.

Very good then. ;)

"will feature a Force Touch display, an A9 processor, an improved camera system, and a faster LTE chip"
- This is not a compelling reason to upgrade from iPhone 6

No, but the yearly upgrades are rarely compelling taken in isolation. Take two years, though, and I find it very compelling. That is, we have 2 5S phones in my family; one of those at least will be updating to a 6S (dropping the clunky 4S off the end of the family hand-me-down chain at last).

On the other hand, if you have been updating yearly and found the 5S compelling over the 5, and the 6 compelling over the 6S, I don't see why force touch, a better camera, and a faster processor wouldn't meet the same criteria now as they did on the 5S and 4S in years past.

Apple TV:
- If Apple Watch (lack of useful apps) is of any indication, it is probably best to wait and see how the Apple TV App Store evolves before upgrading

Obviously too early to tell given that we have no information yet, but (1) the Apple Watch app ecosystem is just getting started, so I wouldn't use that as an example of an app store not being important (it is, like the AppleTV, a development in progress, although with it we know what the SDK is and can see some interesting things in the pipelines).

I would update our old ATV3 to a newer A8-based model if that model had faster load and transition times, regardless of any app store prospects, in the realm of $99 for the updated device. Much more than that and I'd need something compelling; any less than that and it is a no-brainer. But, everyone's mileage will vary here. Obviously we won't know the value of an open app store until we get some examples of what is going to appear in it (other set top box app stores have been rather disappointing to say the least), but the speed improvements we should be seeing should be worth the price of admission alone.

iPad:
- iPad Air 2 is finally "feel nice" holding. iPad Pro would need to be a lot thinner to be held comfortably, or it needs to be like a surface with a stand of some sort and used a little differently than the current iPads.
- If you've got an iPad Air/Air 2/Mini 2/Mini 3, there is probably not a reason to even consider upgrading.

See what is offered. Yes, I think the iPad update cycle is pretty comfortably 3 years, maybe 4. We just recently updated from an iPad 2 to an iPad Air 2, which was probably on the long side of a comfortable upgrade cycle. As always, until you see what is being offered I think it is a little silly to say it isn't worth upgrading, though. That said, past experience says the upgraders will most likely be coming from an iPad 4 or earlier. iPad Pro is a different story; if you wanted/needed a larger iPad then you'll upgrade (or wait for the second generation and buy it then).

Hopefully the new Apple TV will have some local storage option. For some reason on Fridays my internet likes to slow down so it would be nice to watch some of my movies without it buffering.

I think the new Apple TV will have some gaming capabilities but it will probably just be a bunch of casual games.

The current $69 Apple TV has, if I recall correctly, 8GB of flash memory for buffering and OS. It shouldn't have a problem buffering an entire HD movie. Just don't hit "play" right away and let the buffering get well ahead of the playhead and you shouldn't hit mid-movie buffering delays.

This is a HUGE advantage over streaming-only boxes like Amazon's. Our internet connection gets slow sometimes, and Amazon's Fire Stick absolutely hates life when that happens. On the AppleTV we rarely notice it because it builds up a very long buffer while the connection is good (typically we see the traffic from the AppleTV end well before halfway through an HD movie, which means it gets over an hour ahead). But, if the bad connection happens right after starting a movie we just pause for about thirty seconds then start up again without problems.

That said, actual local storage of movies would be a bit unexpected although welcome. I do miss the 160GB drive of the first-gen boxes. But, for years now Apple's line has been that if you want to store movies locally like a caveman then you need to buy a Mac mini and hook that up to your TV (which I've heard works really well, but it isn't cheap).

The only interesting device will be the new Apple TV (unless the 12" iPad makes an appearance), the remote may be something like BMW's new key fob, kinda small device and touch screen but big enough to be usable:

It will be interesting to see how Apple handles the search function, because by God does the voice search work on my Fire TV and I assume Android TV. They nailed it with that one. Will be watching with interest.

That is only for content you buy from Apple movies and TV shows. Other apps like Netflix have a real tiny buffer so quality suffers greatly under congestion. I am hoping the new Apple TV will fix this for 3rd party streaming apps.

Lets just hope a week before some idiot at some tech site does not post anything saying that the new Apple TV is not ready until Apple wants to add a store on the moon. All I know if some idiot links that it is not ready and Cnet posts a video outside the conference saying that the new Apple TV is not ready I won't even bother watching it like what happened in June when I took a nap instead of watching the conference.

I'll be buying:

iPhone 6S 128GB
iPhone 6S black leather case
Apple TV 4

If they come out with some game controllers for the Apple TV, then I might get those too. If they come out with a drawing stylus for the iPad Pro, that would be tempting but I would probably wait for the second version. However if the stylus is compatible with the iPhone that would be tempting for making smaller, simple thumbnail sketches or whatever. I think the iPad Pro will wait until the iPad event in October. If they come out with a Product Red sport band for the Apple Watch then I might get that. This is an event that could hurt the wallet lol!

Sure there is. Split screen is only available on the iPad Air 2. That alone will be enough of a reason for me to upgrade mine.

Can't wait been using a cheap no name flip phone and iPad Air 2 lte ,
Space grey 64 gb 6 plus s please !

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is the point of App Store on Apple TV?

(Must admit the Siri integration sounds cool. "Hey Siri, play The Gladiator" would be much more fun than clicking up and down buttons on my media centre for five minutes)

Games.

But also content. Independent content creators could make apps available and let people buy/rent/view through in-app purchase. Could be great for independent film makers, short film makers, etc.

Bands could release apps and let you view their shows, either live or time delayed.

Home automation apps.

Weather apps with radar, etc.

I imagine there will be a bunch of news and financial trading apps that will split your screen with different feeds, video, tickers, etc.

But the big, BIG one is definitely games.

There are many possibilities.

really? mine is still performing surprisingly well. good enough for another year or 2.
Same here. I was expecting that it would become choppy and slow with iOS 8, but it's really performing just as good as on the first day (which was the release date). Don't see any reason whatsoever to upgrade as long as it's booting. Especially because I really still like the size and the design very much. It's starting to look a little rugged, but I actually like that. That's why I didn't buy a plastic phone.

iPhone's yes, Apple TV maybe, but iPad's i don't think so. I don't think that Apple would announce a new iPad Pro at the same event as the new iPhone's simply because they wouldn't want them to overshadow each other, that's why they have separate events for both iPhone's and iPad's.
the only reason they might do ipads and iphones at the same event would be if the ipads improvements are very minor. I guess this is possible but if true it would sadly also mean that the iPad Pro is not coming this year. as you say, if it's coming soon they'll definitely not want it to be overshadowed by the new iphones.

So there'll be an exact-looking iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4, with very little incremental upgrades and no evolution or innovation at all? mmmkay I wonder why iPad sales are falling.

As for the iPhone 6S, I plan on eventually buying one if rumours are true and IF it starts with a 32gb options, I'll have to add money for a process or monolith black coating for it not to be ugly.

They might be able to talk me into a new iPad (and no, not the rumored humongo one). It would be nice if the Mini was on par with the regular iPad (or at least the new iPod Touch).
