Wondering if someone here could give me some advice. 5 Days ago I managed to win an auction for a new & sealed MBA on ebay for $1,400! I received it two days ago (just about when the rumors began to float). So far, I have been staring at it and drooling not wanting to open it afraid that a new MBA is on the way (not to mention the fact that I could sell it on ebay for a profit).

So what do you guys think?

Open it?
Put it up for auction?
Or keep it sealed and wait it out?

By the way, it's the standard 1.6 80GB MBA.

Thanks guys.

If it were me, and you really wanted the computer - open it an use it. We all know here that rumors can take weeks to years to flourish out. Also, even if you open it and slightly use it, you could still probably sell it for a profit on ebay (as long as a new one does not come out) - but then again when I was in the market for a mac and started looking on ebay; I was a little surprised as the prices of the pizmos and clamshells. and some of the other older models that I would call to slow and too small of a hard drive to run anything worth wild by todays standards.

Besides, I just bought my macbook in April and it looks like already (by these rumors) that it is going to be out of date. I am just going to remain happy with what I have.

Who else is LOLing at the people complaining about Apple hypothetically reducing its profit margin on each machine? Ya know, that's my worst fear. I see big oil companies making huge profits and just worry about them cutting said profits because $4/gallon gas isn't that bad and I don't want their children to go without trust funds.

Seriously, cutting the prices would be a good move. There may be a good bunch of people that would jump aboard the Apple ship if the much prettier price of "$999" stared them in the face. People may also add more options with a lower price, spending just as much but getting more in return.

So here's the better question: New MacBook Pros with Blu-ray??? :)

I can see Apple lowering the MacBook prices...

...CD-ROM drives and 512MB for everyone!

Exactly. Nothing comes for free. The new, low priced iphone is of cheaper build quality and comes without a dock.

For all the people cheering the lower prices of computers now, it will be interesting to hear the complaints when you find out what you are getting for that price. :)

Read only or do you want to write as well? A Blu-ray drive for movie watching leaves you tethered to your AC adapter for now.

I wouldn't mind being tethered to an outlet. Every notebook that I have ever had was used 90% of the time while on AC power.

I really hate people like you. I was basically refused service at an Apple Store once, because I'm 14. I walked in and told them that I wanted to purchase an iMac, 5 of the employees just laughed. Then finally I got someone to go back and get it for me and I handed them the $1700 in cash that I had saved for nearly a year and a half.

Jerks like you and the Apple store employees that I described are half the reason that people don't buy macs. People like you need to get a reality check. Not everyone can afford BMW's and million dollar homes, but that doesn't mean that they are rif-raf dissidents.

I know you're mad - but in some states it is illegal to sell merchandise over a certain cash value/price to someone under the age of 18 - unless accompanied by a parent or gardian. But I do agree about the rif-raf statement being unnecessary. So what, because I am a switcher after 20+ years of Windows, does that make me rif-raff starting to set in. NO, it just means:

1. Apple finally has a platform and enough applications to suit my everyday needs.

2. Microsoft finally ticked me off enough to look elsewhere (I looked extensively at Linux; what turned me off is the coming and going of linux distributions and the lack of everyday applications with good support).

3. I really did not want to have to build another PC and wanted something that could last me years.

the apple store employees should not have laughed at you - they should have explained they cannot sell over a certain $$$ without your parent/gardian being there. And if they were there standing with you - then double shame on them....

I have ran into a couple of arrogant employees myself. Funny thing is I did not see them working the next few times I visited the store. ;)

Dammit and I'm planning on ordering my MBP tonight. I hope if they do a price cut it wont be within the next month :(

I just need to read. The discs (and drives) are too expensive to justify writing.

If that power cord thing is true, then I'll just take BD-ROMs going on iMacs and Mac Pros. I just want to see Apple acknowledge that some people want them on a Mac.

Thank you, I didn't know that. But, what I was trying to get across, is that it's wrong that some people think that you shouldn't use a mac unless you drive a $100,000 car, and live in a million dollar home.

I think we should wait for GPU decoding and all that nasty DRM support. I'm glad both of you do realize that decoding all those wonderful pixels does put a damper on being mobile.

I wouldn't keep it on your lap either.

Also, please drop the prices of the Cinema Displays:
20" Cinema Display: $399.00
23" Cinema Display: $699.00
30" Cinema Display: $1299.00 ($500 price drop)

Lovin this Macbook Touch idea. Makes way more sense than a Newton spinoff.

Only concern is how you would type?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5A347 Safari/525.20)

hopefully Piper is right because I really want a new MBP for college, don't really care about the iPod touch deal since I already have my iPhone. Hopefully he's right

I cant believe everyone on here is believing what piper is saying. He is simply restating what apple said in the conference, AND he NEVER gets anything right!
