Apple to Drop Prices of Notebooks?

Because I'm going to take a lot of crap from people that have known me for years when they see me with a Mac after being a Windows guy and making fun of them. My school requires purchase of a MBP for Final Cut editing that we do, but I'll be running Vista on it otherwise, I want to make it clear that I haven't gone over to the dark side :)

I don't dislike Mac, I just prefer Vista, and most Apple fans I know take it waaaaay too seriously, so I have the need to tweak them every now and then ;)

The problem selling to anyone under 18 (I think it is under 18, but it definitely applies to someone who is 14) is not that it is illegal, but that the parents can come at any time and say the deal is off. So you could say buy a MacBook Air for lots of money, and three months later your parents decide that you should return it and get your money back. The dealer has to give your money back for a three month old used MBA. They will easily take the risk if you buy a CD or a computer game, but not for a $1700 computer.

(Also, Apple won't let you join ADC if you are under 18 for similar reasons. To join, you have to agree to an NDA, and you cannot agree to it in a legally binding way if you are under 18. )
 
The prices will stay the same, but the machines will be more expensive to make. I think that we'll be disappointed when the new notebooks come out after all of this hype. We'll see better screens on the Macbook, and possibly a different keyboard and slight upgrade on design for the MBP. When you look at Apple's history, the computers take time to evolve rather than being completely different whenever 2 years or so passes. Look at the evolution of the Powerbook to the MPB or the iBook to the Macbook. Or even the original iPod to the iPod classic. Now, a new device is a completely different story and I think we may have more time before something completely new is released.

Well, can you still count it as sarcasm if it's true? I'm holding the sticker in my hand - I got it at the midnight Vista launch where I got my signature copy of Vista Ultimate...

I genuinely disdain the elitist attitude associated with some MacFans, it's like when I lived overseas and would occasionally pretend to be Canadian, because some Americans were being HORRIBLE at the next table.

So if anyone comes to Chicago, you'll spot my :apple: real easy ;)
 
There is a 47% chance that apple will release thinner MacBook Air's with 3g for $499 but only if you qualify for the price discount and the 2 year contract with ATT. Subsidized MacBook Air's on the way!!!!

Jeez Apple, would you release them already! My iBook is on it's last leg, 1.33 ghz+768mb of ram+leopard+40gb hard drive= a whole lot of pain. :cool:
 
Lower margins = higher quality

I suspect Apple is predicting lower margins because it will cram a lot of pricier technology into the new model but knows it can't raise prices past current levels. LED screens, bigger touch pads, solid state drives (maybe?)... Same Prices - Higher Costs = Lower Margins.


It seems more like Apple to push the envelope technologically than to take a marketshare driven approach.

:confused: Not sure I understand the relationship between the MBA and ATT :confused:
 
ugh, now I feel like I should wait

been itching to jump in on the free ipod touch educational deal, but this may make me hold off a bit. if the price of the mbp are slashed by $200 or more & the ipod prices are dropped by $100, it's pretty much the same as getting a free ipod without having to deal with rebates AND both mbp & touch will have better specs. *sigh* forever the waiting game with apple huh? guess my macbook will have to last me a bit longer before I do the upgrade.

No, never. They are removing PPC support from OS X entirely with Snow Leopard.

Why would you wish to go back to PPC? Because you liked being locked down to an aging architecture? Because you thought excessive heat was cool? Because you're 14? :rolleyes:

These people amaze me. I really like that though.... I would buy that, I can't wait for this update especially if I get to save $100 haha.

Also for those hoping that this price cut would affect the quality of Apple's products don't worry about it because if you listened to the financial report yesterday they kept on stressing how great the quality of the products they will be releasing will be. Would you expect Apple to release crap products?
