Exactly. But at least there's boot camp, so, I'll live. ;)

In time, your Mac and OSX will overtake your loyalty to that Vista confusion ... Boot Camp will just ease the transition. Few who come to the Mac, leave to return to Windows. :)

been itching to jump in on the free ipod touch educational deal, but this may make me hold off a bit. if the price of the mbp are slashed by $200 or more & the ipod prices are dropped by $100, it's pretty much the same as getting a free ipod without having to deal with rebates AND both mbp & touch will have better specs. *sigh* forever the waiting game with apple huh? guess my macbook will have to last me a bit longer before I do the upgrade.

Ever consider the possibility that this was the reasoning for the offer in the first place? So buyers who took advantage of the deal, ultimately got the same deal as those who bought both at the lowered prices and would have less to complain about having been "screwed" by Apple.

These people amaze me. I really like that though.... I would buy that, I can't wait for this update especially if I get to save $100 haha.

Also for those hoping that this price cut would affect the quality of Apple's products don't worry about it because if you listened to the financial report yesterday they kept on stressing how great the quality of the products they will be releasing will be. Would you expect Apple to release crap products?

Only Vista users expect that (or should I say "hope for that"). Maybe then they'd have an outside chance to regain marketshare. :)

If you chose to be ignorant and believe everything someone tells you then I've got a prime slice of swamp land that would be swell for beach front property.

"Don't underestimate the power of the dark side" - (ok, I'm sure everyone here knows where it's from)

I've been on PC since I was 5 years old with an IBM XT running DOS 3, and in that time I've used Apple II computers at school, into early Macintoshes, and beyond. In 2001 in my first time in college I used Macs and have since had chances to use OSX somewhat extensively. This is when I started to dislike Mac - when I had to use it on a more regular basis. When your mind is trained to the details of how to do things in the Windows OS, many things in OSX are counterintuitive and frustrating.

I allow that this could well change, but I'll be using a Vista desktop probably 75% of the time as well, so I won't be going totally naitive. I surely hope that I at least become comfortable enough with OSX to stop trying to close windows on the upper right side eventually and stop clicking on the right part of that one ginormous button...

I guess my point is, that so far my OSX experience is not one of love, and I aim to make it one of tolerance and mutual respect. I also have no problem with my current user experience. I'm running a machine capable of Vista, and have been doing so ever since I was beta testing it nearly 2 years ago.

I'm not trying to be a fly in the ointment, this is a Mac forum, and I'm for sure excited about my new piece of hardware, but it just gets old to hear a reflexive opinion of "PC=bad Apple=perfect" I think both are good systems, both have their pros and cons, and OSX is for sure better for people that haven't used computers, much simpler and easier to learn, it's just not as true when you have to UNlearn things you know well...

Quoted for truth.

I'm desperately waiting too
Same here. Although I think we won't have to wait much longer. At first I thought new laptops would come in June. Then August. Then October/November. Now it's back to August/September. In my experience, when this happens, a release is not far.

HOW DARE APPLE LOWER THEIR PRICES!!!!!!!
Macintosh's are for the elite class of people who have the grand privilege, given to us by the god, Steven P. Jobs, to buy such an item. The thought of disgusting plebeians touching such a device made from the hand of god himself makes me want to jump off a bridge.

(do I need a /sarcasm?)

I hope these come out quickly. I need to get a MacBook for my little sister before she goes off to college, and I'm trying to wait until early August to buy one so she can have one that's slightly newer. If there's going to be a price drop, then that's even better and more of a reason to wait. I just don't want to get her one and then have a new MacBook released less than a month later, I'd feel like a bad older brother.

When I was in my local Apple store just days prior to the iPhone 3G launch, some of the clerks were telling me how often they get lines at opening just because someone posted that they work for UPS or FEDEX and they delivered a bunch of plain unmarked boxes to an Apple store or because of rumors posted on the net.

You guys need to calm down. :D

Yes! Now we just need AidenShaw's icon so the iDeity can bring us the sacred kool-aid so we may all partake of its sweet nectar.

I think people are just saying "Vista Bad - OSX Good". And ... as you said ... you ARE on a Mac Forum. So, to expect anything else, would be foolish.

I don't agree with you. I used a PC since MS-DOS 3.3, and my first PC was an IBM PS/2 Windows 3.0 (3.1? I forget) 386. I still work on a PC daily at work. While I'm not a computer programmer, I do a lot of audio work and I consider myself computer saavy. Heck, I even know a lot of computer programmers that have switched to Macs and never looked back.

I made the switch over to OSX in 2003, buying my first Powerbook. I immediately was sucked into the OSX experience. The things I grew up knowing (Program Files, Control Panel, System) and had grown accustomed to wasn't necessary anymore. Knowing the right programs to get rid of spyware (ad-aware, spybot, kaspersky), hacking video card settings to get the most juice, going into BIOS, all of that, out the window.

And I couldn't be happier.

I didn't need to skin my XP to make it look pretty, OSX did it for me. I didn't need to use EphPod to update my iPod -- iTunes on Mac is wonderful. I didn't need to gripe about using Cubase -- Apple's Logic is an incredible program. My phone connects with Aperture which connects with Mail and my iPod -- all automatically. I could do that on my PC, but it would take so may time-consuming steps my computer stops being a productivity tool and instead becomes a sort of old hot-rod I have to upkeep to make it shine.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is your experience with OSX might not have been good, but to me, PC = okay, and OSX = better. Don't automatically assume PC's are for more techy people and OSX is for the common folk.

Yes, and amongst my other hobbies are pissing directly into the wind...

But seriously, it's easier to take people's thoughts and opinions seriously when they appear motivated by reason and not fanboyism. That's all I'm sayin :) Since the mac users are elite and all :D

Hey, is that a pitchfork?

No, never. They are removing PPC support from OS X entirely with Snow Leopard.

Why would you wish to go back to PPC? Because you liked being locked down to an aging architecture? Because you thought excessive heat was cool? Because you're 14?

No, because ever since the switch to Intel the quality of Apple products has degraded. I never had a problem with my ibook, but I have had to take my iMac to the Genius Bar 6 times since November.

Well they are fanboys because Macs actually rule the computer world. That's all!! ;)

Perhaps you just got a bad iMac? I've seen plenty of PPC 'problems' posted as well. Neither of my iMacs have given me any reason to question their quality.

Absolutely, I don't want to infer that I speak for anyone but myself, I'm not super techy, I'd say I'm in that great category of knowing how to poke around in things enough to cause serious damage, but I did end up building my current machine, and so I guess I know a fair bit. Perhaps the vast majority of people here are happy converts and that's great, but I just get irritated by people saying that the OS is so blatantly superior that a child of four could see. I've read people on this forum also talking about switching back to PC, so everything is out there.

I hope that I can get over my feelings and enjoy both of my laptop's OSs. And as to software, for me it's mainly my editing software, Sony Vegas, and I'm glad that I'm also being forced to buy Final Cut, which is the only other decent editing software out there, I like FCP enough that I nearly did get an eMac several years ago, but the PC I could get for $100 less was twice as powerful, even considering the eMac was on clearance for $699.

So yeah. I think I'm going to shut it for now, it's bedtime I have to be up in 5 hours for work ;)

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the original iMac was replaced. Which worked fine for a couple of weeks, until smoke started to come out of the back vent. Took it to the apple store and I was accused by the so called "Genius" of putting a cigarette in my iMac:eek::mad::confused:. I'm now on my third and I am so far happy with it.

Finally Apple is coming to its senses and lowering prices.

Now maybe I'll actually buy that MBP and iPod Touch, instead of looking for cheaper alternatives.

I was actually considering a PC. And I still will buy one if Apple doesn't deliver.
