This could be a really smart move. She has obviously done a great job in her current role.

All I personally care about is Apple maintain their reputation for creating the most beautiful, simplistic yet grand retail stores in the world. I would love a picture book of them all they are that good. In this age it is rare to see such emphasis put on physical shopping environments but Apple not only make the best in the world but they are genuinely works of art blending modern and often historic elements seamlessly to create timeless creations.

As long as this continues then I am happy for her experience and drive to be a part of Apple.

It can't be any worse than the last guy lol.

As for wage I am sure she is on a lot more than $24 million

Some people are actually very good at interviews (or what passes as interviewing at this level up). Sometimes better at interviewing that the actual position they are to fill.

Exactly right. Think guys who are good at picking up girls, and guys who are good boyfriend material. Two different types of people. Just because you can get in the door, doesn't mean you can do the job.

At least now people can stop complaining about Apple having no women on their executive team. :D

Burberry have named their long-time creative director, Christopher Bailey, as their new CEO. An interesting move which really reinforces that they are a design-led company, and would be like putting Jony Ive in charge of Apple.

Apparently, Bailey is good mates with Jony, too. Perhaps that's how it all came together?
You might be on to something...

Tim Cook is really impressing me as the Apple CEO in his nonsense and failures -- let's see:

(1) Hiring fashion folks from YSL.

(2) Hiring fashion folks from Burberry.

(3) Dressing 1-year-old phone from last year in soft feminine colors and plastic cases and calling it a new phone.

(4) Spending most of his time trying to convince people that the tiny iPhone screen size is God-given and cannot be changed.

(5) Having lunch/dinner with characters like Icahn.

Way to go, Tim Cook -- you are on a roll and in well ahead in record time to make Apple crumble into a lame company.

I wonder what Steve Jobs would think if he were still alive.

1. Paul Deneve from YSL used to work at Apple and was incredibly successful at marketing

2. Angela Ahrendts from Burberry - insanely successful brand builder Turning a small company ( that had some major issues ) into a worldwide Brand

3. If you knew what you were talking about you'd know it's a faster device with longer battery. A lot of the internals are different.

4. I and many millions don't want a frickin 6" phone in their pocket - what are you? Blind? We spent 20 years getting smaller and smaller phones and now we are returning to these ridiculous behemoth of phones. The screen size and front form factor is about perfect now. There is only one reason to go bigger and thats to be able to fit a bigger battery, which should hopefully become a mute point in few years when these 2000% batteries/instant charging are commercialised.

Also if you make changes every 5 mins like samsung do, none of the apps will fit/work which is the case with Android fragmentation.

5. You mean The very successful investor Carl Icahan, who owns $1.5 Billion in Apple Shares. Why should anyone with that sort of stake be allowed to have a 30min lunch with the CEO.

Steve, would have said "Hire the best people around to do the job" All you are seeing is you addled head is a fashionistas and a Woman.

Uhh, so what? A completely meaningless accolade...

Hundreds of millions? bwahahaha, yea right...

Mansfield got $88 million and Oppenheimer got $66 million in 2012. $100 million is entirely possible for someone whose total compensation last year was $26.3 million and the highest in the UK. Remember, it is restricted so it will vest over a few years.

I'm not sure she is a good move, it depends entirely on the success of the stores under her current position, and I'm not sure they are successful?

If you ask me I think it was a telling sign of rats leaving a sinking ship after Jobs death, considering how many of the key employees have left.

Burberry's sales have tripled in 7 years under her watch. That sounds like success to me.

Regarding Apple, surprisingly few key employees have left. Johnson left to try his hand (unsuccessfully) at being a CEO. Forstall was ousted after losing a power struggle with Jony Ive and Bob Mansfield. Mansfield was going to leave but decided to stay after Forstall left. He isn't on the executive committee anymore but is still a SVP. Besides that, most of the core team from 2011 is still there.

Why does MacRumors feel we would care about this? I don't think anybody does.

It's a pretty big deal. We all saw what a bad choice for SVP of Retail did. Apple took their time with this search. Tim Cook can't afford another high profile bad hire.

Apple says this is a newly created position. Is that because she has responsibility for the online stores? Did the previous retail SVPs only control the B&M stores?

The only recent SVPs to leave on their own were Ron Johnson (who said he wanted more of a challenge) and Bertrand Serlet.

I believe so. Browett' position title was SVP of retail.

More evidence of Cook making Apple a true functional organization. Makes total sense that the person running retail would oversee online stores as well.

dont you just love how users of a rumour forum on the internet know how to run one of the most valued companies in history.

Exactly! My God, the woman hasn't even started and people are already saying it's a bad choice. Whatever.

In other news - in the movie/tv movie about Apple, post-Steve Jobs, One Life to Live's Kassie DePaiva will be playing the role of Ms. Ahrendts
