I am absolutely shocked at how many delusional fanboys there are around here. The next iPhone will absolutely have a bigger screen. Has there been ANY smartphone released recently with a screen less than 4.5 inches?

It's especially annoying to listen to the constant banter about how "4 inches is the perfect size for a screen" coming from people that have never used anything other than an iPhone. Form a real opinion before acting like you know best.

Last, why is a 5.5" iPhone such a big problem for some people? It would still be SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than an iPad Mini, and as Samsung proved, there is a huge market for big phones like that. The Galaxy Note line has been a huge success, and for good reason; because contrary to what the fanboys say, it does make sense for a lot of people. I'm quite looking forward to a big iPhone, because the only flaw I see in the Galaxy Note 3 is the fact that it runs Android [Touchwiz]. Other than that it's quite possibly the best phone you can buy today.

You call fanboy anyone who does not want to carry big phablet? Sorry, you logic is wrong. There is no fanboyism in it, it is just pure preference.. i personally dont want such a big phone - it is ridiculous, strange, uncomfortable.. etc. if apple releases phablet and normal size iphone - both same specs, I am ok.. if phablet should be better equiped or only released iphone, than go to hell apple.. simple as that

A 4.7 inch display is going to give you exactly what a 4-inch display gave you. The basic design of the OS doesn't scale like Android does, so it will just be the same, but a bit bigger. It's needed though. Apple has to do this.

Why does it have to be "delayed" ?

That makes it sound like your airline flight got delayed. It sounds like there is a problem. It's negative.

Why not, withheld, or planned to release later, or Apple comes up with brilliant staggered release strategy to maximize profits based on their field-leading research?

Or maybe, Apple to focus on star seller first, add even larger screen as momentum builds.

Or something.

But no. It's gotta be, APPLE FAILED TO PRODUCE THE TWO PHONES WE SAID AT THE TIME WE PREDICTED lol.

I can just see the freaking analyst reports. Too little too late. One bad apple? Where is the other phone? Apple fails to deliver again.

And then when this new phone is the best selling device in the history of global consumer electronics, the stock goes down. Partly it's because analysts are loudly saying, Apple's one trick wonder. Yes, but what will they do NEXT?

Am I overreacting? Probably. Who cares? It's a zillion pages into a comment thread on a forum. Talk is cheap! :)

Cook said 2014 will see many new product launches. 1st quarter is down, yet to see a single new product announcement. It's unbelievable to me that Samsung and others can make phones with 5"+ screens yet Apple has nothing but difficulty. How is that?

Apple, just make your damn phone 0.1mm thicker so you can get it done. Nobody cares about your chamfered edges. You're losing this game.

i must confess that i have not read all the previous replies. if the camera has the extended/protruding rim, could this serve as apple's new bayonet mount as well? hoping so.....

Honestly, 4 inch is too big for one hand use anyways.
I do browse, scroll, check email and make calls to contacts in the favorite lists with one hand using my 5S, which I assume you'll be able to do the same with a bigger phone. However, for most other tasks its extremely uncomfortable using one hand anyways, and my hands are not small.

Also, people have to realize the smartphone usage pattern has shifted from just making phone calls and using the calculator app. It's not 2007 anymore. With the help of LTE and faster processors, increasingly more people are doing more things with their phones. You might be different, but you really can't ignore the growing trend and change in smartphone usage patterns.

Android is on a vast array of smartphones of all sizes. I hate their strategy. But you've got to realize the bigger phones are selling better. When Steve Jobs said 3.5 inch phone was the perfect size for a smartphone, you'd have to wonder why that isn't the case with android phones.

Apple used to be very good at keep secret. However, for now, it seems 4.7 inch iPhone 6 is certain (It has been confirmed may be around 100 times). Still, I will buy one when it comes out.
It's been such a long time since Apple was able to keep a secret, I'm beginning to think it's just a myth.
Every year for many years, people repeat this truism, as though that year's rumors are more revealing than the year before.
It's almost like the way people wax nostalgic about how the politicians of the 1990s ripped each others' throats out in a more civilized way than the politicians of today do.

April Fools guys! Got ya!

Just kidding, I honestly cannot wait for the iPhone 6 to come out! I've been on edge with my iPhone 5, waiting for launch day, as September / October my current contract with my phone provider expires, so I am due for an upgrade then! :D

Why is your iPhone 5 on edge? No 3G or LTE in your area? :)

Can't wait to see what this will actually look like. So far the renderings have all been incredibly boring.

I'd rather have functional than exciting.

I don't buy the stuff into the production issues at all on the larger model. This is typical Apple. With the 4.7" they catch the first wave of early adopters that want a larger screen. Then a few months later, they release the 5.5" version for another bump in sales. Anybody remember the 'white' iPhone 4S?

Considering how much of development/developer work differences in resolution still is likely to provide (even with auto-layout in Xcode - there's still two other iPhone screen sizes to support), I find it hard to believe that screen sizes is something that Apple is ready to play around with for no good reason. Instead, the info is likely to turn out to be wrong.

Yeaaa it's going to be delayed, along with the full-size iPad, the TV, the Watch, OSX, Pro Apps, and everything else that'd be worth talking about.

Delayed til Google & Samsung come out with it all first.

Isnt that the truth with Apple on everything that their customers want. I've been waiting for a decent Apple TV for years... nothing yet.

I've been waiting for a bigger iPhone since the 4s, nothing yet.

I've been waiting for OS X 10.9 to be decent, still has tons of issues.

I've been waiting for iOS 7 to be faster with less crashes, still nothing, even with 7.1 lol.

No, I wont go to Android, Ill patiently wait, but its just irritating.

Man, looks like this 4.7" screen is really happening. I know I'm in the minority but the current form factor is perfect.

Wait till you spend more than a week with a bigger phone.

I bailed and went to Windows.

There is no iPhone 6, there is only Zuul.

Personally, I wouldn't mind having an iPhone with a larger screen, just not too large. 5.5" seems too large, but around the 4.3" - 4.7" range is manageable. My iPhone 4S (still a GREAT phone) looks somewhat tiny compared to the 2013 HTC One (also, a pretty nice phone). Having a larger screen and hopefully a larger keyboard might make it easier for me to type, as well.

Regardless, I'm hoping that whatever goes into the next iPhone it will make it wonderful to upgrade from the 4S. The iPhone 5S has some nice advantages such as LTE, a taller screen, Touch ID, better camera, faster processor, etc., but even all of those upgrades aren't enough to entice me to upgrade my phone.

My biggest wish for the next iPhone: 128 GB of storage space. Then, perhaps, Apple will have enough reason to discontinue the iPod Classic.

Nearly exactly what I feel - but for me iOS7 is stable and I'd add better Maps in Europe. In any case I'm waay old, so me eyes are failing. A bigger display would be useful for me.

I'm with you, I like the current form factor. I guess the only comfort we have is knowing that rumors have showed the outside enclosure to be the same width (thanks to a shrinking/no bezel on the sides), while the phone will be taller. So at least holding it in my hand will feel mostly familiar.

They may have a prototype but as I've been saying for the past week Apple will NEVER release an iPhone at 5inches and above. Those Android devices look ridiculous and they are only used by a tiny minority of people.

Why are some of you in such denial? You really think Apple will never release a 5 inch phone?

And you couldn't be more wrong saying only a tiny minority like them. That's obviously not true based off sales.

It is funny, isn't it? This gets to me too. How can something that doesn't exist and had no official existance or announcement be delayed?
Many analysts took a shot in the dark. Some analysts may have knowledge of the types of screens being produced for companies worldwide and took a more educated guess. But until something is actually announced, or you get some juicy insider information that something was scrapped when everything was a green light, or foxconn screams "stop the presses!" and shuts down mass production of a product indefinately, then it's not delayed!

The only Apple product I remember being delayed is the white iPhone 4. A bit of an embarassing gaffe by Apple to announce it as available at launch, and then have it not be available until months later. Now THAT is a delay. This?? Not so much.
Why let these analysts save face and throw Apple under the bus for a supposed delay, rather than just admitting to being wrong?

After all, Apple is known to take their sweet time with products. Just because they are testing 5.5" screens, or the screens exist in supply chains for companies worldwide, or whatever, it still doesn't mean they'll be putting it out on the market ASAP.

I truncated your original message to not make this message huge. I guess I felt the need to rant as much as you did :p
