I wonder if the reason Handoff got pulled out of Yosemite for the MBA is because Apple Marketing decided it would be a way to help force all of us to upgrade to the new rMBA being announced? I guess that's just ridiculous wild speculation with no basis in reality.

I'm looking to move on from my 14 year old 'Dell'-a-saurus (which is only used to anchor my router for my 08 MacBook Pro). I may have to look into one of those iMacs now that they'll have a retina display....

Hopefully the iPad 'Pro' will get a mention!

Imagine taking that thing into a store and using the TouchID with ApplePay:eek:

We may see split screen multitasking on these new iPads and more RAM.

PLEASE GIVE US NEW 5K TB DISPLAYS for the nMP that run on dual TB connectors
I will laugh my ass off if Apple doesn't release a Thunderboltdisplay retina. iMac will for the first time ever, have an edge over the Mac Pro.

I almost forgot about that!
That was crazy. I called a friend and he was facing the same issue. Both of us thought there is some problem with our browsers. Spent a lot of time on Google, gave up and just followed some live blogs.

How reliable is the retina iMac rumour? It seems weird to do it when they added a new model to the line not that long ago, I would have thought these would be waiting for Broadwell anyway, for the better graphics capabilities for driving high pixel density displays.

Broadwell won't add enough on the CPU side to justify waiting, it's mostly focused on mobile power consumption improvements. This will definitely require discreet graphics, and I'm very curious to see what they choose. I hope the rumors of AMD are wrong, as Nvidia's latest Maxwell chips are very impressive.

user upgradable from Haswell To Broadwell in future?

just an innocent question - I know there may be motherboard / other reasons this could come off as a silly question, but:

Apple's known about the Broadwell delay for a long time now. Is it possible that they'd make the processor upgradable?

I know that generally speaking, these imacs are unfortunately not up-gradable... but I think even casual users are probably going to bothered by investing a lot of money in a beautiful 5K screen that is tied to a process that is already a bit old.

I'd be much more comfortable knowing that for a couple hundred dollars, I'd be able to re-stoak the machine (and continue to get the most out of the monitor) with a more current processor in '15, '16, etc...

If it's being held at Apple town hall will there even be a live stream?

They do have the ability to live stream from Apple Town Hall as they've done it in the past but whether or not they will this time depends on how big the announcements are going to be I guess.

holy moly, christmas comes early this year. 5k imac max bto come to me! I gotta say this is 10x more exciting than phones or watches imo!

Nice....

to know, mostly by the news about the new iMac. Not being a big fan of AMD (underpowered GPUs and so on....), would like to know why not nVIDIA chips....?....

Someone care to elaborate/theorize?.....:D

:):apple:

Anti-reflective laminated display...isn't that how Samsung attaches the display to their phones?

Come on combination wireless Apple keyboard/trackpad with backlight!!

Great! I'm planning on getting an iPad as a birthday present for my SO... her birthday is November 24th, so I have to be quick to make sure it's delivered in time.

I want an iPad Air but am hesitant because:
  1. Build Quality
The iPad Air is just that - AIR. I can't imagine Steve Jobs approving the cheap build of this thing for such an extravagant price. They don't compare with the iPad 4. They are easily bendable whereas the earlier iPads had a SOLID build. Grasp the Air at the ends and you can easily bend the thing. also the back is so thin that even slight pressure from your fingers propagate to the screen, creating ghost images. Unbelievable!
  2. Touch ID
I hope that this so-called feature is made optional. i don't need it and don't want it. All the fan boys act like this is an absolute necessity and would sell their mothers to have it, but to me it's a privacy threat.
  3. Storage
Why is Apple so stingy with storage options? Come on Apple, don't you have enough $billions stashed away so that you can give customers what they want? Many of us iPad users prefer using it over laptops and we need an appropriate amount of storage. Even Steve Wozniak said TWO YEARS AGO that he wants a 256GB model.
  4. Migration Assistant
Apple, make it easy to transfer ALL the apps and their data to a new iPad with a migration assistant app similar to the way we can upgrade from one iMac to a new one connected with a lightning connector. I don't want to have to pay a small fortune to transfer all my data to the cloud then slowly download it to my new iPad, with questionable results.
If Apple puts the quality back into these iPads and don't force their fingerprint collectors on us I will be happy to buy a new one. Otherwise, I have been looking at the Samsung models but they are crap and don't have the app infrastructure of Apple.

So far Apple post-Jobs is more like Apple under Sculley. Quality control down the crapper, silly ideas, smug, don't listen to customers, etc.

Unfortunately I think the iPod touch has seen its last generation. It's hardly a significant part of Apple's revenue, and with the popularity of "family sharing" plans from major carriers (in the US, at least), you can own an iPhone 4S for free (or whichever the free model being offered is). So kids don't need to get an iPod anymore instead of an iPhone which does everything and also makes calls (very important to stay in touch).

I sadly think you're right, but "family sharing" plans are still quite expensive, particularly when you're dealing with kids who have absolutely no need for a personal phone (particularly pre-teens), $15 a month per line ($180 a year) adds up quickly when that group can definitely get by with a prepaid disposable for when the need arises. Even a 5$ a month extra line fee would be roughly the same as a refurb 32GB iPod Touch over a 3 year device lifespan.

I think the actual replacement device is going to eventually be the lowest end iPad mini for that particular market, while it's not pocket size it's still quite portable and the refurbs aren't that much more.

Is that a joke about the iPad Air build quality?

Not really. The iMac has had an edge over the MP in new design and hardware until it was updated last year. It went 5 years without one.

I'm not gonna be a public beta tester fo the 1st gen retina iMac. I've seen how that worked out with close friends and their first Macbook Pro. I am however very curisous to see the next gen iMac, hoping they will change the bezel (make it smaller).

Yosemite is not ready for prime time.

I'm running the public beta and it's definitely a downgrade from my Mavericks machines. I use three separate laptops side-by-side (2 with Mavericks, 1 with Yosemite), and every time that I switch to the Yosemite machine, I cringe at some of the poor UI elements. For example, the app switcher (Cmd-Tab) is barely visible on bright backgrounds. How does that stuff pass usability testing? I need to be submitting more Feedback to Apple.
