True - electrical ECG NOT available in Canada it seems.

That is no good - Now I have to get it sent to a USA address and reshipped to Canada, and then configure my stuff to the USA App Store is my best guess.

I wonder if there is a physical difference in the international versions? OR is the ECG present, but not going to be activated until they decide about country legal stuff?

I mean, can I buy it in Canada, and then set it up as a USA model on the USA iTunes blah blah and be "all good"?

I'm hoping its just a software change on apple's end. Better yet an option that opens up if your location is the USA.

Does it measure heart rate constantly every second now, like every other decent wearable has done for a few years? If not, how can it detect irregular heart beats and sudden drops and spikes in the heart rate with good quality? The series 3 measures heart rate once every 3-5 minutes if sedentary... which makes for some really unreliable data. My garmin measures and logs my heart rate every 1 second, 24/7, all the time by comparison, which creates FAR more reliable data.

I doubt there will be different hardware versions for each country. This is most likely a software thing and once people get their hands on one, we'll know for sure. Being able to do a ECG makes it a medical device, so it requires FDA clearance. For every european country it will require a CE certificate + whatever is required by the country itself (e.g. MPG certification for Germany). This will take some time.

Of course Ive raves about it being "thinner". This is one case though where thinner is a little nicer and where it makes sense.

Yes, I agree. However, the watch is not thinner than the original Apple Watch, only the more recent ones! It’s a bit misleading.

And what will the ECG function accomplish for the average consumer? If it sends them to an ER or clinic, no one there will believe the readings and they will run a battery of expensive tests, at a cost that will dwarf the price of the watch. It also opens Apple to medical liability lawsuits, something no shareholder wants to see.

In the civilised world those tests are free.

Ok this is the first watch that feels like it’s been beamed in from the near future.

And that sceeen - wow.

I’ve got a series 1 and it’s ... ok.

Girlfriend has a series 3 and it’s... ok but with waterproofing and it’s faster than s1.

This looks truly impressive. Apple are knocking it out of the park with the watch.

Turns out the price increase is only $70. Bought a Series 3, 42MM with LTE for $429 a couple weeks ago and returned it waiting to see this announcement. Now that watch is $409 ($20 reduction), and the series 4, 40MM with LTE is $499. Now you could say the equivalent to the old 42MM is the new 44MM, but the new 40MM is a bigger watch with a much bigger screen than the old 42MM.

And I'm much more likely to choose it than I would the old 38MM, just for best fit on my dainty wrists.

Is this "gold" a really yellow gold or what? It doesn't look yellow... looks like a yellow/rose hybrid of some sort.

I need to go find photos of the hands-on stuff in natural light.

assuming you'd be tracking your snowboarding via the Activity app. i bet the FALL detection is disabled during activity.

I would hope not. Look at Michael Schumacher he had a life changing fall skiing, could be very useful in such a situation if you were solo.

Okay, this is good.
The watch is really evolving into a useful medical device.

ECG lead 1 isn't going to replace a full 12-lead ECG, but by golly it's a damn fine start!

I won't be buying one, but I like the direction they're going in...

(I'm a doc)
The real game-changer will be if they crack the non-invasive blood glucose monitor in the next year or two.

(Me too.)

I understand the fall function to start alerting medical aid if you are unresponsive... I would think that moving around would signal that you are capable of moving. I think if you fall and you don't move, it starts the countdown.

I'm tempted to buy a Series 3 at the discount. I just sold my Series 2 today. I would welcome opinions or advice on going with series 3 versus all the way to 4. ECG is not really relevant for most people, especially because the SW will detect afib now anyway. The bigger screen is nice of course but I can't convince myself that alone is worth the premium. ::shrug::

18hr battery life is a problem for me.... the watch is great but we need a new/better battery technology.

This tends to be worst case scenarios. My 2 year old Series 2 that has been on the charger every other day since release still lasts me about 1,5 day before it gets to 10%. My wifes Series 3 lasts about three days before its down to 10%.

Seems to be the same as Series 3 which is more Rose Gold than Yellow Gold.

The Apple Event is streaming right now and I already want the new Watch Series 4! Will I somehow get to trade in my Watch 3 LTE? It would be great to somehow get at least 1/2 of the $429 I paid for the Watch 3 LTE which will be only a year old in 2 weeks. It is in flawless condition.

I really like the new ECG feature and the louder volume!!

yah, Craigslist. You should get more than 50%
